Is it just me, or is bert sugar a idiot even if he is boxing royalty

If your a avid boxing fan and you actually know the sport's in and out's then Im sure you have heard of Bert Sugar. Dude is considered boxing royalty mainly because of his damn hat and cigar, but the more I read things this guy says the more his reputation dwindles away. He is supposed to be the most knowledgable sportswriter in boxing yet this last article on boxingscene he called Mayorga a "great fighter". Are you kidding me Bert??? And its just not that article either, if you ever see him on ESPN's boxing classic everything he says about a fight or fighter is ass backwards. I just think he lives on his image for being in the fight game for so long. His sense of humor is horrible too. Im sure I'll get backlash from some on this thread, but I guarantee theres some true boxing fans who know what im talking about. bert sugar is trying to promote the sport of boxing, not criticize it to death like you are hell bent on doing. you can't take what he says seriously all the time. if you're smart enough, you'll know when he's talking in hyperbole.

He is an idiot, I garauntee you he hasn't watched a recent fight in color in years, he has black-and-white ESPN Classic fights recorded on VHS still and plays that sh*t over again. He stopped following fighters about 10 years ago, he hasn't been relevant for at least that long. He can't stand the Klitschkos just like Atlas, they remind him of how old he is and that he is from a bygone era, no one needs him and no one cares about him. He wishes he could be like Merchant, he would give his shrivled up left nut, maybe both nuts, to be like Merchant.

He has a lot of knowledge but that doesn't mean his opinions necessarily aren't stupid.

im pretty sure he knows more about boxing than most users on here do. with that said, his opinions are his. he is more interesting to listen to than max kellerman that's for sure...most sportswriters or experts have sides when it comes to big name fighters, either they like em or they dont. i think dude just speaks his mind, i dont really mind it.

Mayorga is a great fighter. Not a great boxer but a great fighter.

I like how a bunch of knownothing loudmouths on a message board on the internet think they are more knowledgeable and crediable then a man who has been around boxing for 50+ years and was also editor and chief for the Ring magazine. I'm sure TMZ and BoxRec.com makes you oh so much more knowledgeable. Fuking morons!!!!

At the roy jones/trinidad fight he was sitting close to me and threw paper at roy's family because they were standing up to root for their man. I found this to be *******ish.

He's a good guy and I respect him a lot, but I stopped listening to anything he had to say after he picked Marquez to beat Floyd. What type of meds they have him on??

Its not just you, I've always thought this guy was a real simpleton. He doesn't seem to know **** about boxing outside of what happened in 1967. That dumb old man hat and drooling cigar act ain't foolin' me.

Bert Sugar is indeed an idiot, that thinks he knows more about boxing than he actually does. IMO Larry Merchant is more credible.

Yeah, he's somewhat of a gimmick. People give him so much credibility because he's old, wears a hat and has that cigar in his hand. :lol1: He seems like a good guy, though.
