Ok I'll bite just this once. How you say?? Well he did beat Hernandez & Gonzalez before even 25 fights.
So you're saying a prime Hernandez and Gonzalez is as good as a prime Pac and Barrera? Cool...
Gonzalez was a top 10 P4P fighter at the time.
No he was not P4P top 10 at the time... Well not by The Ring anyways. What P4P list are you going by?
Here is the The Ring rankings of P4P top 10 at the time Oscar fought Mago.
1. Roy Jones Jr.
2. Oscar De La Hoya
3. Pernell Whitaker
4. Felix Trinidad
5. Ricardo Lopez
6. Junior Jones
7. Kostya Tszyu
8. Terry Norris
9. Evander Holyfield
10.Mark Johnson
I don't remember about Hernandez though. Hernandez went on to dominate still till Mayweather came along. Again, these were early in Oscar's career.
Yea good fighter, what was his record again at LW?
Other quality prime boxers were Quartey, Vargas(yes even after the Tito beating he was still good), Gatti.
Gatti? really? At WW? Is sad that you have to stoop that low.
I don't see how Morales' wins equal as good as some of Oscar's top wins like,
Ruelas W
Hernandez W
Chavez 1 & 2W
Gonzalez W
Whitaker W
Camacho W
Quartey W
Gatti W
Vargas W
Just one Pacquiao, Barrera fight doesn't even add to the same as this. I know Morales has other wins like Jones, McCollugh or however you spell it, that asian guy Chi, and others. If people are giving Morales props for Zaragoza then they better give the same props to Oscar then.
Forgot about my boy Ayala.
One more thing, if Oscar wasn't great then why only one person in Pac was able to do more titles in 6 divisions? I mean if it is so easy, why isn't everyone doing it but a great fighter?
Here comes the WBO excuse.
I'm done.
Off to bed.
You can also throw in Chavez and Hernandez wins at 130 and I mean if we want to throw in the names of Gatti and Camacho.. Then we can also throw in Kevin Kelly for Morales.
Anyways, Oscar never beat anybody that was on their prime that were as good as Pac and Barrera was.
I'd put Barrera over DLH, but not Morales. But I couldn't argue with anyone who did.
Even in his losses, u got to see where he was at as a fighter.
He schooled Tito, win or lose, he made Tito look pathetic. He gave the Mosley that was knockin people out at lightweight a great fight fighting in Mosley's style. The second fight showed how multidimensional he could be. He gave BHop more trouble than most of BHop's opponents at middleweight, including Tito. He's the only person ever to beat Floyd on a scorecard. And... Okay well he was dehydrated as well as being shot.
Not to mention, he made all these guys famous. Barrera made Morales famous.
ODLH is the better fighter, and the more accomplished fighter. For those that say Oscar lost all his big fights...that's plain silly. He had two clear losses in his entire career, and had around twenty wins in title fights, and around twenty wins against other world champions. He actually went undefeated in his first three championship weight classes. If you started watching boxing five years ago, maybe you can't comprehend this. I don't know. I don't even like the man but let's use a little context. If you want to use losses later on in his career, then let's talk about how Morales lost to Raheem-a guy of the caliber that Oscar never lost to. Or how Morales is 2-4 against MAB and Pacquiao.
Why do people hate on DLH so much? How can you spite someone who is part responsible for the sport we all enjoy today?:boxing::ugh:
What did he do exactly?
Bilk hbo out of a ton of money?? Boxing was there before and is fine after he's gone.
The only thing he helped was himself.
Old DLH gave Floyd a run for his money. Imagine a prime DLH on that panic stricken tourist?
He gave Floyd a run for his money by winning 3, 4 if you're generous.
I think you just flat out don't like DLH.
You are being biased without any concrete foundation for it.
Do you just not like his style?
Can you not just not handle the fact that DLH is a Legend?
I do hate Oscar and? I don't like the dude but what is your point?
This is the argument you guys are making Oscar is greater... Ok how? What prime fighters did he beat that are better than the prime fighters that Morales beat? Did Oscar past his prime accomplish what Morales did past his prime? Did Oscar in any weight-class leave the status that Morales did at 122?
And, you guys argument and the answers to those questions is.....Jro you just hate Oscar so blah blah blah...
And, the reason cuz deep down if you really followed both careers closely you would know Morales is the greater fighter.
Props to Oscar for bringing in the casual fans and all that but being a bigger draw, crossover star doesn't really make you an all time great.
Bro, judging Oscar like that is like judging Pac for most of his resume. Out of prime boxers.
I'm not saying he ruined them, that doesn't even matter, what matters is that he won against them. Hence big fights, which most of you all judge Oscar for losing his so called big fights.
You can judge Pac for that but Pac still has a prime Barrera and JMM in his resume what prime fighters tha Oscar has that are as good as those 2? Both still had a nice run after losing those fights to Pac.
I am convinced that some of you fools don't really understand Morales run at 122. And, even at 126 and his win over Pac keeps getting better and better and that was a past prime Morales too.
I think you just flat out don't like DLH.

Do you just not like his style?

See, I understand that but you're acting as if the run involved the same quality of opponents Oscar had WHILE MOVING UP.
Do I think Erik is a great fighter? hell yea
No you do not understand it cuz you honestly think Oscar beat prime fighters that were the same level of comp that Morales did...
What did Camacho do after Oscar?
What did JCC do?
What did Whitaker do?
Are you telling these were prime fighters and Oscar ruined them?
Look what Barrera did after look what Pac did after. These were prime fighters...
I am convinced that some of you fools don't really understand Morales run at 122. And, even at 126 and his win over Pac keeps getting better and better and that was a past prime Morales too.

Im gonna have to say your avatar .. those boobs got me confused
Look I know you dislike Oscar cause he hurt your feelings as a little boy. I'm just talking to the wind. I can easily counter your **** but like I said, it won't matter. You're a lot easier to talk to when it doesn't involve Oscar. lol
Then tell me how Gatti was a big fight then? Are you going to throw the whole where it counts for Floyd... Lets say that it is true and it is in Floyd top 10 best wins(Which is not mind you) Floyd resume gets shitted on all day. Is that the one fighter you want to compare him to? WTF?
Bro, Oscar is hated and it clouds their little pee brain.
When the hell did Oscar lose to a David Diaz?
A Raheem?
ATG fighters right there.
Morales was shot to ****... You going to hold that against him? Fine... Go ahead.
Tell me Oscar beat being past his prime that was great as Pac? Who? Mayorga? Forbes? Sturm? GTFOH
Morales beat a prime Barrera... Are you going to sit here with your bias ass dickriding ass and tell me that Whitaker or JCC were prime when they fought? Any prime fighter that Oscar beat was not as great as Barrera.
Look at Morales 122 run, that **** is legendary, look at his opposition at 126 where is the soft touches at? Yea he lost to average fighters at 135 in his weight-class and one being shot to ****... So he stayed in the game a little bit too long and he still fighting. So if he losses again we going to hold that against him? If Oscar would have kept on fighting his ass would of lost to journeyman as well.
DLH no question.
He contributed so much to the sport he loves.
He has tons of heart, and had power and speed in his prime.
He devastated great opponents in the 90s.
He did lose some important fights, and some of the decisions were questionable but to say Morales is greater is absurd.
:smashfrea
Sweet Peas confidence never came back. Look at him tackle Oscar out of frustration.
So yeah, going with Oscar. But I will say that, if Morales is crazy enough to make that fight with Marquez... and somehow wins.... Ill rate him higher than Oscar. Because that **** would be insane.
Huge Eric Morales fan. He is the greater fighter IMO. But I also think DLH doesn't get nearly enough credit from the boxing world that he helped create.
Counts for Floyd so why can't Oscar??
Besides, Gatti fought at that weight a couple of fights even before Oscar. That's like saying Oscar's loss shouldn't count against Hopkins.
I don't consider Oscar a big win for Hopkins either. So you can take that argument for somebody who does.
Floyd beat Gatti in another weight-class... What the hell did Gatti ever do at WW? And, I also don't consider Gatti a big win, I mean it was nice but nah...Not in the top 10 of Floyd best wins IMO... So take that argument for somebody who does think Is Floyd big win.
However, since you did bring up Floyd. Why was Floyd-Gatti PPV and not Oscar-Gatti? If it was a big fight like you say it was, and the popularity of Oscar you would think they would milk it for PPV? But, since everybody trashed the fight because it wasn't big at all. It was considered a huge mismatch, because that is what it was Oscar picking on a smaller fighter and fighting him at WW. That they just put it on reg HBO.
No bro it was not a big fight at all. ANd, if Gatti is on Oscar top 10 biggest wins then this thread should be ended.
Morales and it's not even close.
Junior Jones was a beast at Bantamweight and Morales made easy work outta him.
That true, even Morales stated the Junior Jones was the hardest puncher he ever faced.
