Katsidis already has a WAAAAAY better resume the Gatti ever had and is a much better fighter. In his prime Gatti lost to 2 below average fighters in his prime(Ward and Robinson) At least Katsidis lost to good fighters like Casamayor and Diaz(pre Marquez beatdown). Gatti's best win is against freaking Gabriel Ruelas
Wow people have really jumped on Kats, if I could be bothered I know a lot of people were bagging him after the Mitchell win.
I like both equally although Kats is a fellow compatriot, I might still go with Gatti but similair heart and determination to get through the tough rounds.
Why not?
Would be nice if he had a Gatti-like following for his efforts, at least.
He needs a Mickey Ward to define him. Valero might have been that man, but now we'll never know.
Don't get me wrong, I always understood the Hatton hatred. The phoney in Hatton is obvious.
I can understand not being as enchanted as others are by Gatti and Katsidis' styles, but I never got what it was you actively hated about those guys, man.
Especially Mike, moreso than Gatti (a guy I appreciated personally and was saddened to see go out like he did, but whom I could imagine someone maybe having reasons for disliking).
This is going to sound trite to you, but Mike is just all heart. I don't see anything that isn't genuine about him.
Totally, it's evident from his post-fight interviews and the way he conducts himself outside the ring that he's a genuinely nice guy. Might not be the most technically gifted fighter, but it's very hard to dislike the man on a personal level, and of course I can't remember the last fight of his that was a disappointment in terms of entertainment. Just hope some of the stuff he's had to go through doesn't turn him into a cold-hearted cynic.
I am with MIW I don't get how anybody can dislike Gatti or Katsidis. Both fighters are all heart and they always went and gave it there all.
Katsidis is the closest thing we have of the bloods and guts warrior. So the comparison is there.
However, I think Gatti was a little bit, I think Gatti also has the better resume, I think Gatti wins over Tracy Patter, Gabriel Ruleas, Ward, and a faded Lieja. Are better than the wins over Earl, Escobedo, Chavez and Mitchell.
However, I think Gatti was also way more protected than what Katsidis was. I mean Gatti in his prime the only really good fighters he faced were Ruelas(who was never the same after the Garcia incident), Manfreddy, Patterson, and Robinson 2x.
Katsidis in his prime on the other hand faced Casamayor, Diaz, and JMM... The level of comp that Katsidis faced in his prime to what Gatti faced. It is quite clear that Katsidis faced the tougher opposition. So that could be why his resume and accomplishments doesn't match up to Gatti.
Gatti was more skilled than Katsidis is.
Main difference is when Gatti stepped up to top competition he tried to adjust his skill set trying to fit it to the opponent he was fighting, when Katsidis steps up he uses what he does best even if it was not the best for the opponent.
So Katsidis looked better in his biggest fights because he was doing what he did best even if it was a strategy doomed to fail, and Gatti might have had a better strategy, but it wasn't part of his best skill set so he didn't look as proficient.
Also, May and DLH that Gatti fought were better than the JMM and Casa Katz fought.
i was thinking the same thing watching that fight. it almost looked like he was throwing elbows.
I love the way he throws, really turns over the right hand
And to the OP,
it's fairer to call Mike Katsidis this generation's and every generation's Mike Katsidis.
Maybe I could have said is Katsidis this generations Blood and Guts Warrior? Invoke the memory of Gatti without a direct comparison.
GTFOH. There's nothin' that Katsidis does better than Gatti. Gatti faced better competition from much bigger punchers.
Outside of being able to take a punch and a big left hook(which can't even be labeled as an educated punch)
The right hook that he throws is all wrong. I'm surprised he hasn't dislocated that r. shoulder.

Good thread I consider kats special because he's a win some/lose some type of fighter...he wins impressively and loses with no shame and is still not counted out the picture...Kats would ruin soto!
good way of putting it, it's very hard to dislike the guy.
we need a Kats appreciation thread
that guy is a WARRIOR, in and out the ring
Boxing isnt all about wins and losses. I enjoy a fighter who may be limited physically but isnt afraid to bite down and just fight his heart out. I enjoy the drama of boxing and you dont get that a lot of times with the match making that goes on nowadays.
His fans dont even have to worry if he loses because he gives it everything he has and makes it a good fight.

This is true. Gatti was more athletic than Katsidis ever will be. Katsidis is still the superior fighter.
Any time either of them stepped to the elites, they got KO'd.
Gatti to Oscar and Floyd.
Kats to Casa and Marquez.
