I watched their first fight, and Williams took the same left, sometimes even harder ones numerous times for 12 rounds only to get stoppoed with it the first time in the rematch.

the first time?
:lol1:
rewatch the fight, man. martinez kept catching him again and again with the straight left. he also caught him with the KO punch a couple times (that overhand, almost hook looking left a la pacquiao-hatton).
definitely not the first time.
I think Martinez was making them count this time around. Rather than countering and moving.
I think this was the difference too, Martinez was trying to knock Williams out.

Michael Nunn was no one shot KO artist but he knocked out a very sturdy Sambu Kalumbay with one shot. Normally light hitting Steve Ottke iced Anthony Mundine with one shot. It happens.
Part of the problem was that he was leaning in for a big left himself so he threw his head in the direction of the unsighted punch....kayo.
Williams technically is horrible. He has no defensive skills, His defense is his offense. This was bound to happen once he reached this level. He tries to fight like he has one punch KO power, but he does not. Plus arms are to long for the way he fights. He does not control distance very well and his jab is horrible.
He takes most flushed punches on the face, more than any other fighter I have ever seen in boxing period.
This won't be the last time Paul gets clipped. He needs to get a new trainer real quick, a world class trainer.
Williams head was moving fairly fast into the punch which amplified the punch, plus he did not see it. Williams needs to change his style he does not hit hard enough or have a good enough chin to fight the way he does.
Oh, I don't doubt he could hurt Williams or drop him heavily with that kind of sledgehammer right hand. Zertuche is actually a good example of the way I think Pavlik could knock Williams out, he'd likely soften him up with a KD and beat him to sleep.
It's the one-shot/out-cold type of punch I'm talking about that Pavlik doesn't throw. He doesn't throw at the angles to catch Paul across the jaw like that and his shots can be seen coming...he lacks the dynamism that Martinez showed in his punching, even while being undoubtably the bigger, and more generally hurtful, puncher.
I understand what you're saying and agree in general, that said Zertuche was put to sleep, out cold on his feet by 1 punch. He could ice him with a straight shot down the middle right on the chin like that i think.
Pavlik PW is a fight is still want too see. Doubt it happens though.
1st KD at 0:03 2nd KD out cold from 1 shot at 1:06
It was obvious from the start Martinez was out there to slaughter Williams. It only took me the first round to realise Martinez was looking to land monster overhand lefts to end this fight pretty fast. He Martinez certaintly wasn't feeling going to the judges score cards as we know he's had a few dodgey decisions in the past.
Pavlik doesn't even throw that dynamic type of punch.
Pavlik would have never knocked Paul cold with one shot like that - Pavlik is naturally heavier-handed than Martinez, but he produces a different type of power and he can't throw the type of shot that Martinez KO'd Williams with. If he'd knocked Paul out, he would've beaten him to sleep.
I think he could possibly Zertuche PW if he lands with a right down the middle. He wouldn't struggle to land power shots either since his height and reach are alot closer to PW's than Martinez's.
like they said Martinez planned on going aggressive and trying to hurt PW. In the first fight alot of the lefts were thrown from the outside and were overhand shots that were connecting when he was at full extension.
In this fight, even in round 1, you can see that when he got inside he really sat down on his shots. He caught him with a beautifully timed shot that PW didn't see coming AND he connected right at the start of his punch, he was able to follow through, punching through his target and turning his shot over.
That was a scary KO. I knew with his style, Paul had a KO coming to him but that was insane! He literally was out cold. I was rooting for Martinez but I felt bad for Paul getting laid out like that. The sad thing is, he'll probably never be the same after that. I hope I'm wrong but damn. One of the most brutal KOs I've ever seen.
Not sure about Williams but his bandwagoners will never be the same thats for sure. What I dont get is why people are suprised, we all saw Paul get dropped in the 1st match then hurt/stunned multiple times in the fight after that so why would anything change in the 2nd fight?!
Im just sorry I didnt bet $$ on the damn fight but was worried about the biased scoring..:smashfrea
If it happened against Pavlik it would be understandable, but martinez was never a one punch guy.
Well he did stop Cintron with one punch for a 10 count. But we all know what happened there. I think he has deceptive power. He hits harder than a lot of people think and he throws blinding shots that are hard to see coming. I also have never seen Pavlik busted up like he was in the Martinez fight.
Martinez didn't try to knock him out in the first fight, he knew he was easily outboxing him but was naive about the judging of the fight.
This time around he said "no more mr. nice guy"..... He knocked that bum out cold.
You owe me 5 million.

Sheeeeee, He did not get hit with a punch harder then that one. that was the one hitter quitter.
Cintron softened his chin up for Sergio thats why Pwill got KOd from that one punch.

Cintron would have knocked him out if the fight hadnt been stopped due to Cintrons injury. Its so unlucky for Cintron that Martinez gets all the glory due to his freak injury.
Dude that last gif of Cintron makes us Ricans look gay as ****. Even the guy next to him was like' ***"
P Will was sluggin it out with a true MW.. He was swinging with no thought of defense. Factor in Martinez having a full training camp. = P Will hype ending.

Neither is Pavlik really. Sexy is an underrated puncher. He wouldve stopped Williams in the 1st round of the last fight if it was 30 seconds longer.
No idea how you thought Williams was getting a KO...
