That shot was practised in the gym prior to the fight. And why do I think that? Well watch the first round where Martinez deliberately starts throwing the overhand left on a couple of occasions. He kept throwing it everytime and even landed a big overhand left on one occasion before the knockout happened.
Martinez did say also say prior to the fight in an interview that it was 'lights out' for Paul, well he wasn't kidding us either...
So Martinez had Paul already figured out before the fight, this doesn't take a brain surgeon to work it out. Paul was oblivious to it, that is why he walked straight into it. This is to those who think it was a 'lucky shot', that shot was telegraphed before the fight.

Of course, it was the same punch he caught him with 100 times in the first fight.
It wasnt a lucky shot
He kept landing it over and over in the fight and that was part of his game plan
The last one just put his lights out when the others couldnt
No fluke, no luck, just good old fashioned preparation. Sergio landed that shot several times in the first fight. I kept thinking that maybe he didn't have the necessary power if he couldn't put P. Will to sleep with it. Turns out "La Maravilla" simply wasn't sitting down on his punches as much as he was capable of. So Martinez came into the next fight with bad intentions. He was clearly more intent on connecting with some nastiness in the second meeting.
I read an article on ESPN.com where Dan Rafael quoted promoter Lou DiBella as saying, "You know how many times he told me, 'Don't worry, I'm going to knock him out'? He kept saying that over and over. I was worried like a maniac. He said, 'Relax, I'm knocking him out.'" This tells me Sergio knew that it wasn't a question of landing the right punch, but of dialing up the power. He knew he had more in reserve. To paraphrase the old saying: One punch is worth a thousand words....
it wasn't a lucky punch, because he had already landed that punch against williams in the first fight and landed it a couple of times before the ko in their second fight...........
haters want to hate, lovers want to love, i don't want none of the above, i want to piss on you...........
because he said it in the interview???
He studied the Quintana fight. Quintana landed that shot at will and Martinez was hitting that as well in the first fight. He kept moving back and landing it and it took him three hits in the round to end it. Williams simply doesn't know how to fight lefties
Another thing, which Bob Pappa mentioned, was that Martinez planned to take the fight to Williams and be more aggressive. That statement left me scratching my head but after watching that KO, I completely understood. Martinez kept moving back but he launched that punch forward as Williams waded in. Just beautiful.
Man I kept telling Burner that Manny would KO Williams because that is a punch he is open for. Martinez knew if as well because if you ever pay attention to Williams, he drops his opposite hand, and leans in for shots. That's the punch you throw on an opponent who does that.....and again if you actually pay attention to Williams fights...you would see this.

It was an extremely well-timed shot that landed perfectly. You can tell Sergio studied Williams' tapes in camp very carefully. He waited for Paul to throw and leave himself open, leaned to his right and threw the overhand shot.
That's all preparation, timing, and skill. Luck had nothing to do with it.
he wasnt reacting to williams left hand, he was reacting to pauls shoulders. Martinez watches the center of pauls chest, not his hands.
Paul was trying to feint right jab and then throw a left hand. martinez pivoted around what WOULD have been a right jab, and was going to bring a left over it.
Pauls left came because martinez pivoted, paul thought he'd walk him into it.
It was all set in play. Both men were reading each other.. its just that paul has shotty defense.. he dropped that arm too low on the feint and was countered perfectly. watch the KO in real time.
No you're right, I noticed that to, just did'nt mention it then, it was! as though he was focusing on the chest.
I did keep thinking to myself, how did he find that shot, as when you watch it, he did'nt really have time to react to Williams cocking the left hand, if he did, he would have incredible reflexes, speed, so yeah, im inclined run with what you say.

s-mart was throwing that punch all night
It looked like Martinez just planned on putting more leverage on the overhand left this fight due to him having huge success in the first fight. Martinez put absolute every bit of power he had into that shot, he timed it perfectly. Like I said it was defiantly worked on in the gym prior to the fight....
It wasnt a lucky shot

It was not a lucky shot. Paul Williams helped out and obliged by walking straight on to it and adding to the collision. It was just a perfectly executed and timed punch.
Yes. It wasn't a lucky shot, that shot was already put in place for Martinez to catch Williams.
Of course, it was the same punch he caught him with 100 times in the first fight.
Martinez had him dialed in for that punch and others. Nothing Williams can do against him but try and swamp him with stupid punches most of which can't land.
Which is why I consider the first fight an outright robbery.
Yes, a robbery.
