Well would they? Jmm offers boxing ability, craftiness, counterpunching, he's athletic, good workrate, combinations, fast hands, strong defense.. Many would argue his style is somewhat of a departure from many of his fellow Latinos. So imagine Jmm were black, spoke fluent English, shouted out some random American City, entered the ring not to the tune of traditional Mexican music but to a hip hop song, and carried himself with some American swagger.. Would Pacquiao detractors still be claiming Pac is avoiding black americans? If not.. Then B-Hop's and all those making similar comments would in essence be fairly racist. Please discuss!
Floyd is black & he's been cherrypicking since he left 140!!He has dodged anyone that could possibly be perceived as beating him!!(This is Pacman's counterpart)!!But he receives way more hate than Pacman, but they both avoid prime elite fighters that are dangerous!!
True. The difference for me is that I believe Pac has little or no input as to who he fights. Floyd, on the other hand is in complete control of his opponents will be.
I dont think his name would be Juan Manual Marquez anymore. Something more like Josh Micheal Matthews. Not too urban, not too classy, Just right.
Exactly! I was thinking if he was black, he would be cuban or something, and he would be closer to latino which would make the world in balance again in pac land. I keeed!!!!
For argument's sake, can someone please photoshop a black JMM pic and post it in this thread?..!!

Not amazing, but I was using a crappy online program to do it.
Well his cast of haters is definitely growing. Hopkins just wants to hook his buddy Mosley up. However, Pac's better bet for silencing critics outside of fighting mayweather would be Berto as he's both black, younger and undefeated. Unless Williams can get past Martinez then fight effectively at Welterweight. The picture would be really confused if Williams can manage that.
I don't know how he could silence his critics without beating Floyd while taking the tests.
he could silence some by just taking the OST against anyone but to silence everyone that involves beating or at least giving Floyd a run for his money.
This whole thing is going to get a lot worse before it gets better, unless things change (or I am just wrong).

The answer is no. But that's because if JMM were black, he would've beaten Pacquiao. Both of the JMM/Pac fights were close and any one of the things that you mentioned would have been the difference. For instance:
1) Fluent English: Speaking a language that Pacquiao can borderline understand would allow JMM to serve up some white-hot trash talk. Spanish curse-words, widely accepted to be the least offensive of any curse words, are even less effective when not comprehended. I wonder how potent Pacquiao would be after hearing, "Pac-man, more like Pac-****" and "of countries with more than five million people, the Philipines rank dead last in literacy among adults." My guess: Not very.
2)Raised in an American Urban Center: Hopkins addressed this nicely. True "black" fighters are raised in the mean American streets. Mean American streets mean one thing: Mean American streetfights. There's no such thing as a street fight in the luxury and comfort of the Palace Kingdom of Ghana or that hidden paradise that JMM is from. A fighter with a street-fight history is a fighter with a sixth sense. If JMM were black ( assumed that he would have been involved in a number of dust-ups) he would have a keen sense of what to do if Pacquiao ever "fronted" or was ever "disrespectful." Advantage JMM? Of course.
3) Hip Hop Song: I mean this is so obvious, I feel like I shouldn't have to explain it. I wouldn't have the courage or dgnity to pet my own dog after hearing some of that Mariachi sh*t. I swear to god you could release a rabid caged wolverine on a pile of prime rib... pop on a diddy by some sombero-wearing trio... and instantly that beast is purring like a kitten.
Rap. Nas. Snoop. Fitty. That's what the #&$Y#$ I'm talking about. If JMM were introduced by Kanye, Pacquiao is sucking leather.
4) American Swagger: F*ck. And yes. America. You can't teach America. Red. White. Blue. U.... S.... A.... But what does it mean in the ring, you ask? U... S... A... I mean, how could one nation's soveriengty mean anything to a fighter. That's preposterous. U.. S.. A.. It doesn't make them stronger or fas... U! S! A! USA! ...or smarter... U!S!A! U!S!A! U!S!A! .. what effect could...USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA!
So, your question answers itself. Either that, or B-Hop is trying to build a fight for his friend Shane Mosley.
I want to see him fight Floyd that is it, if he can beat him he could beat any other slick guy.
If you take out the top of the food chain that answers all questions, but understand that this is the backlash that will stain Manny that I was talking about. Is it fairly stupid yes, but he can't escape it as this is only the start.
On the plus side you are never truly successful until you have a gang of detractors, so Manny is getting there.

I agree with everything here. At the end of the day it would be impossible to blame Pac for a lack of slicksters in the sport of boxing. To make a blanket statement that he is dodging a fighter that doesn't exist illustrates a sort of desperate/frustrated attempt to knock someone off a pedestal.

I could see a case for Mosley being tougher but at this point in his career I jsut don't think he has the staying power to do it enough to really win. Mosley if he is landing good shots is a much different guy than frusterated Mosley (who is horrendous). I don't know if Manny is capable to getting Mosley really frusterated like Forrest, Winky or Floyd if he can he wins no doubt, but if he can't it would be a much tougher fight (but still winnable).
JMM is a really good boxer though I would rate him on the boxer scale ahead of Mosley.
Slick guys are pretty rare though currently, Raheem was sort of slick but sloppy and really not that good overall other than that casamayor was slick but in decline and Guzman is pretty slick but he never made the most of his gifts. Other than Floyd and JMM that is pretty much it as far as boxers go.
If they mean Floyd as a basis for slick boxer, there is only one Floyd Mayweather so that is a pretty tough standard to live up to.

If there were other high profile slicksters out there with a reasonable fan following, I would say fine Pac might be avoiding them. However there aren't. This thread is more in response to B-Hop's comments. It's not Pacquiao's fault, no "black american" has put himiself into position or been strong enough for the fight. Save for Mayweather of course who is a different story altogether. Despite race, JMM is tricker than Mosley from a stylistic standpoint. There wasn't anyone who fits this description in Pac's path during his ascension.

JMM IS black.
Are you blind or something?
I've always suspected this judging from Marquez' style of fighting. If what you're saying is true, and Jmm is in fact black.. Hopkins' comments are completely unfounded.
I don't mind if he fights JMM that is the only boxer type he seems willing to face, he is not what most americans would consider a slick boxer (although in reality he is pretty slick) but that is mostly down to sterotypes and the fact he does it more with position and timing than outright quickness
So even if it is not like fighting Floyd it is atleast something different than recent opponents who seem tailor made.
JMM was craftier, more skilled and qualified than any black fighter during Pacquiao's ascension, and the fact is Pac fought him. Was the result controversial? Yes, however he was not dodged. B-Hop's comments ultimately IMO amount to race card crying/hatorade.
