Arum's comment had more to do with money and marketing opportunities for Manny. The Phlipino-Mexican angle is done (DLH-DIaz-JMM-Margs), he has fought plenty of Mexicans. They had a big PPV turnout marketing to Puerto Rican fight fans when he fought Cotto. The Brits represented when Hatton stepped up to the plate with PPV buys and buying tickets.
Arum is referring to Pac vs. (P-Will or Mosely or PBF or Alexander or Bradley) allows him to tap the African American PPV market. Most buys come from urban areas and it is a fresh money making opportunity for Top Rank.
As for match making the reason he hasnt fought black american fighters is because he has been fighting in the smaller weight classes where you have more latino and asian fighters.
And to the dumb'A$$ on this thread: Black is not a style. Malignaggi, Sergio Martinez, Lucien Bute, Foreman are all "slick" fighters...does that make them black? No.
It seems that any fighter that sets up from a Philly Shell Stance (1 hand up, 1 down, sideways stance, Stand in the box, roll with punches and counter) is said to have a "black style", or any boxer that's flamboyant and athletic is the same. What you all are implying is that Black fighters arent technical enough so they have to improvise, be slick.....terrible, just flat out racist.
The Philly shell is the most difficult style to master and it takes supreme skill...very few can do it successfully. Malignaggi for example is terrible at it. On the other hand Roy Jones Jr, James Toney, PBF, and Hopkins are masters of it. But not all Black Americans fight like that at all. Most have styles that are not Philly Shell/flamboyant.
P-Will: Euro style, Slightly outside the box sets up off his jab
Dirrell- Stick and move, counter puncher
Ward: No style to speak of yet. Still fights like he is in the Olympics, uber fundamental. He changes from fight to fight..maybe a boxer-puncher
Bradley-Euro style boxer puncher
Andre Berto- Boxer Puncher, Speed fighter
Shane Mosley-Brawler
USS Cunningham-Euro style, straight forwardworks off jab
Cornelius Bundrage-Unorthodox brawler
Zab Judah- Boxer Puncher
Philly Shell type fighters:
PBF
Bernard Hopkins
Devon Alexander
Chad Dawson
The idea that black american is a style is probably one of the more racist ideas ever pushed on nsb.. Pretty funny though!
So is the thought that black fighters are not warriors and just run and hold. I've seen quite a bit of that here too.
didn't you get the memo? black people are great at sports and beat everyone regardless of effort, but are illiterate and can't finish school without at least one white or asian grandfather. Obama needed two.
How more racist can one be , you should really go check yourself.
Spewing racial rants upon blacks and anyone else is down right ignorant, it obviously shows that you weren't brought up correctly.
Dunn, they are both being stubborn, but all indication from everyone in pac's camp is that they want that fight. The indicators from floyds camp is much different.
The economic indicators are indicating that I sound like a much wacker version of Chris rock in my post.
Call it jealousy, hate, or whatever you like, but Floyd is entitled to think what he thinks just like you and I. You may not like the fact that he asked Manny for OST, but he was willing to undergo the same tests so it is not like Manny was doing something floyd wouldn't. It doesn't matter if he didn't think other fighters use PED's or that he never asked for the testing before.
floyd agreed to Manny's stips and offered his in return and manny didn't agree. To conclude that floyd doesn't want the fight is absolutely ridiculous. Now if you say they both want the fight, BUT ONLY ON THEIR TERMS, then we can agree. Doesn't mean either is scared or dont want fight. It means they both feel they are in the position to dictate to the other.
Its been so long since either had to compromise to make a fight that they are both being stubborn.
one way to save face in negotiating is to make demands that are out of the norm and not likely to be accepted. the art is that the demand can't be so obvious that it blows your cover. like if floyd demanded that they fight in a barbed wire ring it would be obvious. it's pretty clear that he didn't want the fight.
you're also leaving out floyd's "vacation" on the second half of the year. and all this about his uncle's legal troubles. you know and I know that trials get postponed all the time in the US, and it could have been done in rogers instance.
dunn, floyd agreed to fight only if manny agreed to a demand that is inconsistent with anything floyd ever did before and is not the way things are done in professional boxing ANYWHERE. If that's not a way to get out of a fight, I don't know what is. it's agreeing to a fight but not a boxing match, because that's not how boxing is conducted. he has and had no proof of anything, none of his stablemates use OST, he never asked for it before, its a total joke.. and since then, he's proved he wants it less and less.
I made no mention anywhere of floyd's personality, I'm talking about the business of fighting.

Walt:
Floyd agreed in january so that doesn't sound to me like someone who doesn't want fight. You said the same stuff about your boy Shane too and, just like then, it was the other guy avoiding floyd.
Floyd may be an a$$hole, beater of women, degenerate or whatever other negative you can call him. But he agreed to the fight in January and Manny didn't. Popular opinion and truth are not the same.
If no floyd fight can be made (i think floyd has to) then bradley at 147 or pwill at 147/150 would be acceptable. No shane, no cotto.

Well you posted about what Arum said about black fighters and that's totally different fom what this thread implies but oh well...
And no matter how people will clamor for that fight with a "slick" boxer or whatever need to wait until corruption ends in boxing, and that said, stupid threads like those will continue to flood NSB.
Fair point. Again it all has to be kept in perspective. Top Rank's matchmaking doesn't mean manny is scared of a certain style nor does it mean he cant defeat it.
For me, I just want to see the styles against each other. Manny could severley hurt a good boxer or he could be made to look silly by a good boxer. I will do my part not to contribute to the stupidity.
There's nothing left for Manny to do but shut up his last remaining critique.
Floyd doesn't want it, like I posted yesterday, he's done everything short of faking his own death to get out of this fight.
If, for some reason, I could get what I wanted (other than floyd-manny obviously). I'd like to see Manny go to 140 and clean house, starting with Bradley-Alexander (which better be Bradley cuz Alexander got outboxed by Kotelnik). OR, I'd like to see Manny fight Pwill.
I'd be shocked but very happy if either of those happened. I really haven't figured out what I think they'll do next, but knowing who Manny's promoter is, I have a bad feeling about it.

Yes. I think its just that for so many years the style was associated with black american fighters. I think this is why Yuri was "too tall" for Manny yet Marg , at the same height , wasnt.
True manny is too good for berto no question. Bradley has a better chance but I think Mann gets him. Lets be real, floyd or Paul and thats all. I understand when people post crazy sh1t like Zahir Raheem would've beaten Manny (or he ducked him).
Given that many people think JMM beat him at least once, prob twice, and he lost to morales when he decided to box (and was on weight), it would provide a greater test of Manny's considerable skills to fight floyd or paul, because they can box like the JMM and Morales but possess much more speed.
I am not Manny's biggest fan but that doesn't mean its racist or hating if I bring this up.

I was saying this earlier....Kirkland fights nothing like Mayweather, both black, both American. Jeff Lacy fights nothing like Roy Jones, Hopkins fights like no one else period......there needs to be much more detail and specificity involved to describe one attribute that links all black American besides color because there are a wide variety of skills and attributes that black American boxers utilize to be effective.
I like debating with you DUnn....
I was just pointing out ignorance. Pure boxers aren't only African American and African Americans fight many many different styles.
Why not say that Manny needs to flick someone slick with pop? Just a pure boxer that couldn't get manny's respect would get run through. Think about Dmitry Pirog or Sergio Martinez or Dzindurek. None are black, all three have different styles that would be troublesome for Manny, and only one of them is a pure boxer.
I said yesterday that I only want to see Manny vs Floyd or the winner of Bradley-Alexander. People who are trying to shi t on Manny, better hope he doesn't fight Berto because you're going to lose this argument in a big way. I'd lso like to see Manny fight Bradley or Alexander at 140, cuz I know he can still make it there.

I use "slickness" in the snes BHop did when he told pavlik to get some "slickness" after their fight. Slick has been associated with black american fighters the same way brawling has been associated with mexicans. Obviously it is not the sole property of each ethnicity.
Manny successfully conquering the best slick fighter takes him to the level so many others already place him on. Manny is a phenomenal talent, he is tyson at the height of his powers with the added ability to box and move. That said, when i watch him fight I see the openings he creates that I belive a well skilled boxer would capitalize on.
Manny beating floyd would be more impressive then Duran beating SRL because manny came up through more weight classes then Duran. That said, lets make sure we seperate the idiots from those who just want to discuss the point rationally.
gotta be slick with something to get manny's respect. he's too fast if you can't get him off you. so feather-fisted cuties need not apply and scared dudes like berto damn sure better not expect to win.
so if he were to fight pwill at 147, even though he's not particularly slick, would this satisfy?
this african american "supremacy" theory is just like the "white supremist"..ignorant.....
im black and when i go to the gym i dont see color..i see talent, hardwork, dedication
I dunno Larry, I used to get pissed when I work my ass off in the gym and could never bulk up (damn Flip genes) but my buddy looks like a body builder and almost never works out. Damn genetics are a ***** sometimes.
Yeah Dunn,
But clearly they didn't say anything about black american as a specific boxing style, scumbag Arum's just referring to black american fighters as to what really they are, that is that they're black american fighters.
This thread clearly states how idiotic some posters can be and refer to black american fighters as a specific type of boxing style. :pat:
Look for the thread at page 1 and you'll understand why pareng Walt created this thread. And please, do not take this too seriously :lol1:

Walt:
Did you see my thread last friday? Bob said to Dan Rafael that Manny has never fought an african american and that would be how he would market a manny v mosley fight, the 1st african american fighter manny will fight. I have pointed out several times that Top Rank has not matched Manny agaisnt an african american that can box. A number of quality posters called me a racist etc. But then Bob confirms the same thing.
No matter which fighter you like more we cant change the truth. Top Rank has matched Manny smartly. While Manny is a unique and special fighter, he is a come forward puncher. His style, historically, has not been successful against pure boxers. When posters point this out just calling them racist doesn't make the post wrong.
You and I have debated several topics without going completely insane on one another. I would welcome discussing this issue in a civilized manner because for me, it is important to evaluating Manny's greatness.
Duran fought SRL. Chavez fought Taylor and Sweet Pea. ODH fougtht floyd and sweet pea. Felix fought ODH. Manny has to test his skills against all styles to truly be great.
