School me on why Roach is a great trainer

One thing i respect about him is that he doesn't panic like Emanuel Steward.

I don't think so... I remember the fight with Hatton, Roach broke down Hattons outside punches perfectly, instructed manny with a specifically timed counter right hook, and that gave him 1st round knockdown... i guess your new to boxing.. anyone who knows the sport at all wouldve instructed manny to capitalize on that. i saw the same thing and so did everyone who knows anything about boxing, its not a secret that hatton is wild with his hooks and theres plently of ways to counter it. telling his fighter that hatton telegraphs his hook isnt a deep breakdown, nor is it telling a lefty to counter it by beating him to the punch with a shorter hook of his own, its very basic. a fighter shouldnt make mistakes like that at this level, any trainer who missed that should find another profession.

La cucaracha is good at talking a lot of shit when it comes to a Pacquiao fight. He knows that if he talks shit about any of his other fighter's opponents he's going to look fucking stupid when he loses. He's an okay trainer. There are better underrated trainers out there. He just hit a gold mine with pacquiao.

Manny made Roach not the other way around

Roach is clearly the best trainer in boxing today. That goes without question. A trainer has four main responsibilities: He must get his fighters into shape, he must improve their technique, he must be able to motivate them and he must be able to create a game plan and adjust as necessary. Roach by far exceeds all of those expectations. Roach’s evolution as the greatest trainer of his time. He not only developed great fighters, but he also produced great trainers.

No one has even mentioned how the old, celebrity-esque Roach has gotten in the head of Pac's opponents. He got into Cotto's head, he got into Joe Santiago's head, and he even got into Margarito's head. I never thought I would read about Margarito going all "f*ck that Roach I'm going to punish Manny so that f*cker Roach learns" mode, but Roach managed to do it. yeah, roach is good at doing that psychological warfare on people.

no it wasnt. anyone who knows jack **** about boxing couldve figured out that was the way for pac to fight DLH. roach is a decent strategist, not bad in any way but not amongst the best in the world. nazim richardson is a great strategist, angelo dundee and eddie futch were great strategists. roach is okey, he knows boxing but he doesnt break down oponents that deep. just has his fighter adapt to their style and main strenghts and weaknesses. roach is great in the gym, he is the most dedicated trainer in the world. he is in the gym all day every day, so he gives his top fighters lots of one-on-one time even between fights when they are not in camp. he has alot of world class fighters in his gym of all sizes, so his fighters always get top sparring for their fights. he has a great team of nutritionists and strenght and conditioning trainers who work at the wild card at all times, so fighters get to benefit from them even between fights. roach is one of the best fundamental trainers in boxing, he knows how to build a fighters foundation something which alot of modern trainers either dont know or dont pay enough attention to. at the same time hes a great championship trainer, probably the best short of emanuel steward. meaning he can also take a fighter whos already successful and add to his style without taking away from what made him a top fighter in the first place. that is even harder, most trainers try to change a fighter too much which at a certain stage will do more harm than good. thats some of the reasons freddie roach is a great trainer. Cause the Boxing Writers Association nominated him as Trainer of the Year and they probably know more then any of us on here.

Most trainers are overrated!!! They don't even develop a fighter from scratch nowadays, At the moment am still looking for a trainer who was there from the begining, But someone like Roach has made a lot of Improvement and adjustment with fighters like Pac and Khan since they joined him so credit to him.

Becuz he trains a lot of successful fighters... I mean, I won't comment on how most of them were already successful when he trained them, but still. It did take him 8 years to give Pac a decent right hand... but today it's a great right hand... (Even though it only took Floyd Sr 1 training camp to turn Hatton into a boxer)... Whatever. I'm sure most people think he's great cuz he's Pacquiao's trainer... Sr. turned Hatton to what? He robbed Hatton....thats what happened! He was just there to take the purse as a trainer! Look at how he talks at 24/7 then what happened?

try to refrain from mentioning awards and accolades. No point of explaining you everything on how great Roach or Manny is. You already fixed your mind in one thing no matter how we explain in details with sense. All you have to do is discrediting all Pac wins and viola! Roach and Manny are nothing just like a bum! flomo!

he cherry picks all of pacs last opponent and made it look simple to beat them.. Is it simple to beat oscar, cotto, hatton, JMM and clottey? those are elite fighters....

People hire him because they know he is good. If you think oh he only has pacquiao who he made a lot better, then that applies to all trainers, mayweahers, nacho etc... Nacho made 15+ champions. Not just the Marquez Bro's.

I think a lot of his success is based on him having a gym in an area with a lot of potential talent. If his gym was in Iowa, I doubt we'd ever know who he was.

any hardcore boxing fan can figure out what the game plan vs margs should be, but none of us helped manny get to the point where he has those tactics and skills at his disposal. if he had not developed a right hook or learned how to use angles to punch and turn he'd still be the same fighter we saw at the lower weights, a 1 handed straight line fighter with speed and power. roach taught manny how to box and how to use his physical gifts tactically. i dunno what wins roach should be given credit for. i just give him credit for polishing manny's skills. spot on roach taught him how to utilize those raw potentials credit to manny for using them to his extent

if you couldn't answer the question you should have just said so. doesn't matter, others replied to what im gonna post anyway Pac & Roach have a great chemistry, both should be credited for what they've done together
