Margarito is a tough S.O.B., but I had to ask Garcia whether he seriously thought his fighter has a realistic shot at beating Pacquiao.
“I’ve been watching video of Pacquiao’s fights every day since the last time you came by the gym (one month ago), and I’m telling you I see things,” he said. “Every time I watch him the job we have seems a little bit easier. That sounds crazy to anyone who watched what Pacquiao did to Hatton and Cotto and Clottey. When you watch Pacquiao fight live, it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement, because his speed and power is so unbelievable that you don’t notice what he’s doing.
“He seems unbeatable. But if you really study him -- somebody that really knows boxing -- you see a lot of mistakes. And you see that his opponents, who didn’t have it or didn’t try like they should have, should get some credit in how incredible he looked. That’s not going to be the case with Tony.
“I think Tony is going to do what lately nobody’s been able to do," Garcia continued. "The last one to do it was Erik Morales -- he beat Pacquiao when he did it -- and that’s not show him any respect. He can be backed up. He backs up easy. When you do that, you put him on the defensive and there’s a lot of things he does instinctively, like cover up as he goes to the ropes, that a strong fighter like Tony can take advantage of.”

I had a bit of confidence in Garcia coming up with a good gameplan, but now he's just like like the rest of the other trainers. Hope it's still competitive.
I would love nothing more than to see Tony win, but maybe Garcia's is getting a little crazy with his recent wins over Roach. He may be thinking that Roach trains all his fighters the same and this fight will go down the same road. I certainly hope not.
War Tony.
You know Hatton thought all he had to do was avoid Pacquiao's right hook since he knew exactly what he was doing, that it was coming, and how it was gonna come.
We all know what happened there. Just because you know exactly what Pacquiao is gonna do, doesn't mean you have the athleticism or reflexes needed to do anything about it.
Of course not, but if he sees Manny making a mistake obviously hes gonna try and capitilise on it.
If Pac's opponents made him look good, then Margarito will make him look like the greatest of all-time.
Everyone claims they see Pac's mistakes, but not many fighters can do anything about it.
I doubt Margarito is going to.
Remember Lenny Dejesus?
7:35 onward
Garcia does have a completely different fighter compaired to Clottey....so we'll see what happens.
I'm not sayin Margarito is better than Clottey but he might be braver than Clottey on fight night against Pacquiao.
Manny has been fighting in his walking weight. against marquez he had to lose a lot of weight just to make 130 lbs while Marquez didnt have to lose a lot of weight and fighting on his best weight thats why the fight was competitive. since Manny moving up to 135 lbs and above Manny hasnt been in any trouble and control the fight. i think he has the same hand speed and way better footwork now.
See Ricky hatton and Floyd Senior watching the tape on 24/7....same move every time.
It does not matter that he has flaws...his chin and his speed makes up for it.
Morales has slower hands at 126 and 130 but he has a better jab than Marquez and used it, as well as throwing a good straight right which Pac can't block to save his life. That and he backed him up with it.
I partly agree with JMM's skills giving him 2 victories but I also think their speed was comparable at the lower weights, Pac had the edge but it was a matter of degree.
If Marquez committed to his jab like Morales did, we wouldn't even be talking about Pac right now.
fair enough
blazing? cmon
can you say the same about Morales blazing handspeed?
JMM had good handspeed but no faster than Barrera who got sh!t kicked by Manny.
it was JMM's smarts and skills that kept him in this and his countering accounts for a large portion of his punch stats or do you disagree about that considering JMM is largely considering the best counterpuncher in the sport?

Its not that new. Look at the punchstats. Look at the exchanges, Marquez got the better of it most of the time, his hands were blazing at 126 and 130.

In handspeed?
really?
that's new
I always thought it was better overall skills that kept JMM in the fights with Manny and IMO winning both. I always felt it was his impeccable footwork, his accurate punching, and his acumen that showed out over Manny's physical attributes

it doesnt matter if you see mistakes.
your fighter doesnt have the skill or quickness to capitalize on those mistakes.
same move every time.
Exactly.
Robert might be a good trainer, and could be right. However, he doesn't have the fighter to exploit weaknesses.
If Margarito was a bigger version of JMM Manny would be in trouble, but good thing for Manny that is in no way an accurate description of Margarito.
nope not at all
my line of thinking was replying to the guy who thought the only way to beat was with speed and both JMM and Morales showed that not to be true
this was in no way to say Margarito and Marquez were similar at all
