fighter. Can we just ove on?
I give JT props for stepping out of his comfort zone and taking on one of the best UFC fighters. There are a lot more professional boxers who will talk the talk but wont dare to walk the walk. Boxing is a great combat sport. IMO the most exciting to watch. But Saturdays fight just goes to show that if you cant stop someone from taking you down or choking you out then your punching ability is use less. Randy Couture would get owned in a boxing match because he is a wreslter and wouldnt be aloud to take his opponent down. He would have absolutley no chance at all. Toney on the other hand was aloud to use his best weapons, his fists' but he just fail to do so.
Its not about which sport has the tougher or more athletic athletics its about when you are aloud to use whatever skills you have to beat your oppnent, who would win. In this case (and IMO most cases) the one with just punching ability will lose to the one who is a more well rounded 'fighter'.
What's hilarious is the amount of MMA fans who signed up to this forum just to brag about a still capable old man easily beating an old,fat man man, who's shot to **** and hasn't been a relevant figure in this sport for several years.
Actually,it's not hilarious,it's quite disturbing, actually. But that's the wwe fan mentality of many mma fans.
I actually used to like mma at one point. This weekend reminded me why I was right to stop taking an interest in it.
Couture is a damn near 50yr old man who's lost 3 of his last 4 fights and got knocked out twice in those 3. and has lost 10 fights.
Way to spin it like Couture is a serious contender for a title in mma and james toney is garbage when he's still gatekeeper material in the heavyweight division.

why? Randy is a wrestler...wrestling isnt aloud in boxing. Boxing is aloud in MMA.
not a very bright idea.
Pffft!!..Try telling that to Bernard Hopkins and Andre Ward..
"We all knew Toney had no chance of winning"
Really??? could have fooled me by the way this forum was a week before the fight.
I can only imagine the idiotic uproar on here about how ufc will die for sure now if Toney had landed his lucky shot on a 50yr old grandpa.
common Randy has not proved anything by beating a boxer. boxers are circus freaks, beating a kid by a grown up never proves his toughness. Boxers would get killed man. They don't deserve to be in the cage...
Randy should face Fedor or someone like that to prove himself
MMA is about using your greatest asset against your opponents greatest asset. Whether it be BJJ, wrestling, striking, etc..
In this instance, it was boxing vs wrestling, and wrestling won.
LOL why are Boxing fans so mad? LOL did anyone really expect Toney to win?
And for the argument of Randy going to Boxing...remember, it was Toney who CHOSE to go to the UFC, he wasn't forced. Randy admitted to not wanting to stand up with Toney from the very beginning of the promotions because he knew he was at a disadvantage. Meanwhile, Toney was making it seem like Randy was gonna sit right in front of him (like many of the Boxing fans here foolishly did as well).
Again, MMA is MMA, Boxing is Boxing. Both sports are great, but a great fighter from either sport would have a hell of a tough time adjusting to either sport in the sense of how Toney came in (9 months of training).
Actual wrestling you have to be VERY skilled to be good at it. I dont get the comments saying its easy. I mean look at the top of the heavyweight division. A lot of those guys were top amateur wrestlers in college, and a guy like Couture who could still beat guys outside the top 10 had an excellent amateur wrestling background. I'm pretty sure Tito Ortiz also had a good wrestling background but i'm not 100 percent sure of that. I wish guys like Kurt Angle took up mma when he was in his prime. Now that's the best amateur wrestler i have ever seen.
Kurt was a little to old and UFC wasn't paying as well as the WWE was when Kurt was in his prime. He's riddled with injury now so yeah that wont happen. There is even a wrestling myth that him and Brock Lesner had a backstage wreslting match and Kurt schooled the much bigger and younger Lesner back in the day.
And Tito was a wrestler in collage.
its been proven over and over and over and over that only knowing one thing can't take you very far in MMA, whether that be wrestling, BJJ, Boxing, Muay Thai, Karate, etc.
Wow so why didn't Tony become an elite wrestler in 9 months since it's so "easy"?
Fuking moron!

boxers are superior athletes. Anybody can put the work in on the mat and learn wrestling, only a select few can be top boxers.
James toney does not represent boxing as a whole.

Once again...Wresting isnt allowed in boxing. How would Randy even compete? JT had the opportunity to catch Randy coming in, and he failed to do so. We all knew that JT had that one chance, and if he blew it, it would be over for him.
Wrestling worked for Hatton in his fights :boxing: lol.
Bruh :gives: that JT lost, i really dont care who is the better fighter, all i know is that if a MMA fighter fights a boxer in boxing the boxer would win. Ur like really juiced the RC won :lame: we all knew he would win. JT only had a punchers chance.
I agree, Bruh, an mma fighter would lose in boxing, Bruh.
Im like totally juiced up, Bruh.
wouldve couldve shouldve.
lets just move on.

That is a silly generalization some fighters have a skillset that would likely aid them to transition to the sport a lot better than JT IE any Fleet Footed fighter does better than Tony, A Fleet footed fighter with big power also does a lot better than Tony. Either of the Klits would do very well not just because of the prior Kick boxing ex but also because they are large people which would make take downs much more difficult.
Let's be realistic do not allow this one fight to cloud your judgement.
Randy is almost 50. End of.....

Taller fighters are actually easier to take down for a wrestler.
Lets do a best out of three series. Now give JT a rematch in a boxing match.
You do realize that in boxing Randy can't take down his opponent. In the UFC the rules do not stop James Tony from throwing punches.
This is why this observation is the dumbest fuking comment that could be made about the Tony vs Coture match up.
Just dumb!!!
