Is Pac not having a jab a myth?

I keeps seeing this issue brought up when talks about the mayweather fight..."can't beat May without a jab". I'm not saying Pac has an ATG jab, but he seems to have a pretty solid, quick jab and uses it well for opening up his opponents in the past. I think he tends to do an I remember hearing Roach comment on it before stating jabs from southpaw stance is overrated vs orthodox and that's why they don't rely on it much. Realizing how Pac has shut down his past opponents jabs with right hooks, it only makes sense that the opposite can be done to him. May has a great counter left hook and Pac throwing alot of jabs would be plain stupid in that fight, just like May throwing his to the body.

He can counter jabs well: The first video is in slow motion and Pacquiao looks like he has normal boxer speed in super slow motion while Cotto looks slow as shit. Impressive speed.

Nah I think pac's body punching is more underrated. That left to the body looks nasty as hell. Cotto was getting whacked and would curl up everytime he got hit to the body. And I think barrera mentioned it in the past that pac's body shots took the air out him when they fought. Just ask Clottey too. Pac ripped him to the body over and over. I was watching Pac-Marquez 2 and Pac did a decent job in that fight going to Marquez's body.

Pacquiao tends to use his straight left as his jab, and uses an actual jab more to determine distance.

He doesn't concentrate on the body, too busy going up/down then out but your right, that bolo punch/hookercut looks wicked. Its the kind of punch that digs into your solar plexus.

Not that I see. His jab isnt even a real jab. I call it a distraction type of jab. He throws it out half assed to make you look at it then he blasts you with the left hand. Its not a jab used to measure or pop his opponents head back with. Ehh, I wouldn't go that far, not calling it a real jab. His jab is used for distancing (make punching room for him or to get out) and setting up the left. He doesn't rely on it like a Klit or Winky because his style doesn't call for it. Watch him vs southpaws, he uses it very differently in those fights. Also because of the angle and power, Pac's lead left is better as a head snapper than a jab from his stance.

I think Pac is an unorthodox kind of fighter, so applying orthodox boxing judgement to him is somewhat problematic. Like someone else said, he throws a half-assed measuring "kind of jab". Even if we do say Pacquiao has an underrated jab, a range finding kind of jab or distraction jab isn't the type of jab that would give Mayweather problems. From what I've seen I'd say his jab is far from being authoritative enough as to where he'd be able to build his offense off of against Mayweather.

Pac has a jab but they are not his main weapon, Mosley does the samething that pac does with the jabs. its just not their main weapon.

Pacquaio doesnt have a jab plain and simple. His jab is like a left hook/jab his elbows comes out really wide and is more of ahooking motion rather than a sharp shooting jab. Haters come get it. hahahahahahaha nice joke

He can counter jabs well: That's kinda my point. I think Pac is more successful at countering jabs with his right hook than any other southpaw Floyd has faced...and Floyd's counter left is better than anyone Pac has faced. They both won't rely on the jab (for whatever purpose) like a typical fight.

mayweather has one of the best jabs in boxing right now and i'd call pac's jabs against jmm just to set up the right distance for his powerful left, I personally dont see pac's jab as anything special but it does give him enough time to close the distance and get in range to throw a power shot or combo

On Body punching from Floyd on Pac. I disagree. Some of the best body work in his career have come against lefties. Judah, Corley, and Mitchell comes to mind. Hes very good at going to the body. Especially the jab to the stomach. His long arms allow for it.
