And only 1 of them is American. It seems that Cotto, Pacquiao, and Mayweather are the only 3 guys that can attract an audience in America. Everyone else seems to come up well short of these 3. Ward is thought to be a good draw, but his fight against Green was almost called off because of slow ticket sales. Outside of the big 3, no one else seems to be able to crack the 10,000 mark in paid attendance. Arreaola and Vitali had about 7,600 in paid attendance, Williams vs. Cintron had a little over 2,000, and Berto vs. Quintana had a little under 1,000 in paid atttendance.
Compare these numbers to the big 3. Cotto's last fight had an announced paid attendance of a little over 22,000(this may be inaccurate as no official numbers have been released). The live gate on that fight was estimated to be around $3M. Pacquiao's fight against Clottey had a little over 36,000 in paid attendance(41k total showed up). The live gate on that fight was a little over $6.5M. So those two fights did almost 60,000 in paid attendance and brought in almost $10M at the gate. Mayweather's fight against Mosley was in a much smaller venue, but had excellent numbers. The paid attendance was a little over 14K(still almost twice as much as any other fight not involving Mayweather, Pac, or Cotto in the U.S). However, despite having a crowd about 1/4 the combined size of Cotto and Pac's most recent fights, the live gate actually was higher than both those fights combined pulling in a little over $11M.
So there's good news and bad news. The good news is that whether in a casino or a large venue; Cotto, Pac, and Mayweather have shown that boxing can generate large dollars in America. The bad news is that everyone else outside these 3 have failed to prove they can bring in big money anywhere in America. Will the tide ever turn in the U.S?

And the funniest thing is people make silly excuses about how american fighter have an advantage in selling PPV, Here we have 2 foreigner who basically are in the top 3 of the bestsellers in boxing, I dont really want to hear that excuse anymore about 2 american fighters fighting each other..
Spot on. :fing02:

hatton isnt fighting again. malignaggi sells out in NYC, and even that is questionable now after his last loss. juanma sells out in PR, and given the oponent possibly somewhere else, but hes not bringing in huge numbers. hopkins has a big following but hes never been the guy to sell out big arenas, his oponents were. tito, DLH, pavlik etc speaking of pavlik i doubt his following will be big outside of ohio following his last loss.
the thing is alot of legends are at the end of their careers, or ended their careers recently. but there are lots of up and coming young guys who are ready to take over.
That's the point. DLH wasn't even on the p4p list when he fought Hopkins, yet he was the much bigger draw in the fight. I think Floyd has a good argument here.
ummm hatton sells out anything anywhere
pavlik has a following
so does mallinaggi
and juanma and hopkins
do you even go to fights?

Major sports...In no order
Soccer
Football
Baseball
Basketball
Golf
Tennis
Track and Field
Those are the top sports. Of them all the majority of the best players/teams/athlethes are american and most of the top players in their respective sport are american except soccer.
Prove me wrong or stfu.kthnxbyebye.
Didn't know federer and nadal were american...
the ones which are dominated by america are american sports. Athletics is different but it's also rubbish and no one cares about it.

Where's cricket? Isn't cricket the world's #2 most popular sport?

Football is only an American sport and is only popular here. Worldwide is less popular than Soccer is in the U.S. it shouldn't even be considered a major sport IMO. Baseball... at best its evenly split between Hispanics and American players with a few solid Japanese players in the mix. Its certainly not dominated by Americans in any fashion. Basketball is still a US sport, but its pretty obvious that the rest of the world is getting better. Tennis... this one made me start LMAO, did you really just put Tennis? Unless you are referring to the female side you are a total idiot. Rafael Nadal is from Spain and Roger Federer is from Australia and both, especially Federer beat down the best player in America currently who is Andy Roddick. Track and Field... who in the hell from the US is any good, the Kenyans will all the marathons, Bolt wins all the sprint races and really I don't know anyone else. Also, Track and Field is far from popular in America... this should have been replaced with Hockey which probably has more global appeal I would think and the best players are from Canada.
Proved you wrong, kthnxbyebye.
That is pretty bad if true.Tho there are some upcoming fighters
that are bringing fans.
Saul alvarez
Amir khan
mike jones
Antonio escalente
juan manuel lopez
victor ortiz
But boxing is still looking for its next superstar after floyd and manny.
The guy in your sig (Benavidez) might have the talent and skill to be that type of fighter.
i took a friendly jab at Kallion and he got all hurt...i've never discredited mike...he gets his props...
I never got offened, you took it way off topic goin into age and all this other bullshit.
I made my case you couldve made yours but you decided to get all personal attacking my age sniff sniff, tear. LOL
you're 22...when Jordan was in his prime, you were what? 7? go pop in your Come Fly With Me tape and shut da fukk up already, son
Thanks to the internet I have the luxury of witnessing greatness before my time.
I understand why youre so upset though. Just like Jordan shits on Kobe, I shitted on you in this debate. You couldnt even respond with a proper rebuttal.
You're acting like a Kobe'mo and I really had respect for you...SMH
that was last night...im not drunk anymore...you're boring when im sober...i didnt even read that shit
Mike was great no question. But he had terrible games and still got his props. Just like Kobe.
6-19 FG 1-3 3PT 11-12 FT 9 REB 7 AST 2 BLK 2 STL 5 TO
Still lead the team in scoring, Still average 27 for the series,Still took it in 6 games...
Oh did I mention he was being gaurded by a guy by the name of GARY PAYTON aka THE GLOVE arguably the greatest defensive player in NBA history....
Was this game an elimination game? Were the Bulls backs against the wall like the Lakers were? Were the Bulls trailing more than 90% of the game?
Good job, now go join Mak in the corner.
It was an elimination game for seattle, George Karl (unc grad) didn't put payton on mike till game 5. he shot 5- 19 in game 5.
The Boston Celtics this year was a great defensive team. While GP was a great def player, there were no zone defenses allowed in 1996. The Boston team this year is a much better defensive team than the supersonics were.
The point is Jordan's team won, he won finals MVP even though he played poorly in the last 2 games. Just like kobe. Kobe got more boards and had less to's in the last game. Also avgd more pts for series. It went 7 games because Boston was a former champion where seattle was not. Just be objective.
