Is Khan's jab up there with Klitschko, Dawson, Mayweather, De La Hota etc?
It was a serious weapon last night. He controlled distance, he countered, he measured up, and hurt his opponent, all with his jab.
I believe it was one of the best jab performances in recent history. Albeit against a limited, but respectable opponent.
What do you think?
No, no and no.
3 reasons why his jab looked great
1)Malignaggi had his left hand down the whole fight
2)Khan was the taller fighter with bigger reach
3)Khan fought a disciplined fight and stuck to the gameplan
doesnt make his jab particularly great. I think he still throws low and still relying mainly on speed and athleticsm. But he's going to run into someone who'll be able to go right over that jab and make him pay.
i think you're right but only to a degree
paulie did have his left hand way too low, he didn't move his head, he couldn't use his shoulder to deflect the jab and he couldn't use his feet to get out of the way and set himself for a counter. i definently think khans height and reach helped him last night, paulie just didn't seem to realize when khan had him in range.
i do think pauli looked bad tonight and in the post fight interview he mentioned how he looked old and i'd echo that. his feet and legs weren't there to help him get out of the way, too often he was waiting for a counter punching opportunity and imo against a longer and quicker fighter that was a bad move. if he had tried to be first it might have been different.
but i don't think we should try and discredit khan too much, in the end he fought a very good top 5 LWW and clearly won the fight. his jab was accurate and stiff and id have liked for him to have thrown the right hand behind it more often.
imo khan needs to take on maidana to show he can go in there against a puncher and stick to a gameplan and get the W.

i remember thinking that a prime nate campbell or a fighter of that ilk (seasoned, tough, skilled) would have capitalised on khan mistakes.
but for now credit where credit is due, khan deserves a top 3 ranking in the LWW stakes.
I have always considered Khan's jab his best shot. He is now developing a good left hook to the body but this is partly down to his too square on set up. That takes power from the right hand and moves it to the left.
He has a very good jab ,no question about it.
Paulie is hard to hit cotto and hatton had hard times finding him at times but Khan couldn't miss with the jab. Best jab I've seen for a while, although needs to work on his combination punching and his timing was a bit of at times.
He defiantly showed his jab is a weapon. I think it will play a major role in his style in the future, that jab was crisp as hell snapping Paulies head back on a number of occasions.

1- When there's 2 orthodox fighters in the ring, no one should be catching or blocking jabs with their left hand.
2- It's part of the reason, but that shouldn't take away from the quality of his jab.
3- See 2.
Fact is, if you're landing 20+ jabs per round against the level of fighter Khan is, you have a great jab. Khan's jab had speed, accuracy, power, and controlled the pace and distance at which the fight was fought.
He made Paulie look helpless with it. His jab was great tonight and on those guys level, but he's only shown it for this fight. He needs to do it again to be able to put him amongst the best.

His Jab was good, it reminded me of Wlad V Eddie Chambers.
