I've tried both at amateur lvl and think MMA is more useful for streetfighting as it incorporates legs and elbows Etc and is more 'messy' like a streetfight is..however I've noticed mma does not do too much on the technical side of punching so I think boxers punch harder and more accurate which of course is alot of help in a streetfight..
What do you guys think? Any real life experiences you can share
p.s. sorry for putting this thread in here but you get mre responses and it is related to boxing so....
whatever feels more comfortable to you, as long as you're good at it you'll be alright. but contrary to what ufc fanboys say, if you can punch there's no need for a fight to go to the ground.
people talk about mma likes it's real street fighting, like they ever seen someone do a reverse armbar or a rear naked choke in the streets
usually in the street fights i've been in i usually box the dude:boxing:. then the dude falls, and i kick my opponent when his on the floor:banana:. so neither boxing nor mma. i guess.
If you're an adult the best self defense is common sense.
Other options include being unusually large/athletic or carrying around a firearm 24/7 (which I don't personally recommend).
Also I do box which is great training and I enjoy the sport aspect but I don't go around thinking I'm going to smash random punks on the street.
****ed up fight. Looks like the dude just turned around and bumped into his lady (who was walking too close) and the dude just started throwing punches. Neither guy was even attempting to fight back. Very poor example of a "boxer" in a street fight.
The gypsies hit his girl on purpose and he knocked them down.

he did that on purpose. he knew they were walking behind and look how he throws his hand
Hah, boxing.
Because boxing skills ends the fight quick, if your on the floor hugging the other guy, you're doing something wrong.

I chose MMA because that would give you a few more options in case you were jumped from behind, as much as I hate MMA though..
It's all situational. I mean if you knew were getting jumped from the front then all it'd take is some lightning punches and the attacker would be put down.
belly dancing is more effective
Lol yeah they'd think ur mad n run??
But I think if u started witha gd kick to knee, shin or nuts that cud end the fight against a boxer
In a street fight, you'll win against the average joe, if you're a boxer, MMA fighter, wrestler or judo player.
MMA is more useful in a street fight though. If the mofo is himself a boxer, you'd fukk him up once you both clinch.
It's not often these days you get to trade alot without being grappled or wrestled to the danm ground so id probably have to say MMA. If you the person wanted to trade willingly then obviously boxing will favour you but as stated not often does the fight stand-up
I don't know about MMA, but Boxing only is definitely not effective in a streetfight.
This goes for pretty much every combat sport, the biggest danger is to feel too secure "because I know how to box/kickbox/Jiu-Jitsu/whatever" and before you know it someone comes at you with something that you are not used to from your sport.
With boxing, there are a lot of such things and I am not even talking about knives or other weapons. You can't cry foul if someone holds you, uses their legs, hits you from behind, throws you to the ground, someone else joins in, etc...
Of course there are advantages, such as physical abilities, confidence, knowledge of where to hit, being used to take hits without curling up/closing your eyes, etc... but you should never overestimate those outside of your comfort zone, which is a boxing ring and its rules.
