Mir said boxing's decline has forced the sport to put together substandard match-ups because there are few bankable stars in its divisions.
"They're trying to move guys into different weight classes to make superfights," he said. "There's really no weight division that has anything going on in it. If you look at boxing as far as (the) mainstream, I think you're hard pressed now to even ask people who's in the heavyweight division in boxing, which has always been one of the premier weight classes for the sport of boxing.
"Right now, if it wasn't for the two or three superstars that they have in their sport willing to fight each other even through they're not in the same weight class I don't think you'd have any boxing matches going on whatsoever."

Critics of boxing have been saying this since the beginning of time, OMG Ali is gone, OMG now Tyson is gone, Hoya can't leave the sport, what will we do without Mayweather, Pac is all we got.
It's an on-going cycle.
Great cross over fighters don't come around often. I recently saw Pac fight a unknown and sell 50k +, Wlad fight a 208 pounder and sell 50k. When a idiot like Mir is speaking, it's really not worth listening to.
The MMA vs Boxing bullshit is beyond played out, clearly they can both co-exist.
boxing always seems to be on the verge of some kind of certain death, when de la hoya retired all these guys were basically saying the sport was finished, at a given time there is always a group of people who are either being groomed to be superstars or will become superstars at some given point.
at this point im sort of sick of hearing about how boxing is "dying" and how its been dying for the last 10 years, yet its fukking still here.
You just said he can sell out a decent number lol.
Mosley ain't shit and never will be by himself.
It will do good numbers thanks to Mayweather.
The reason this PPV will do Huge numbers is because the public believe shane mosley can actually beat Floyd, so in part Shane will be a big reason why this PPV will do mega numbers.

If Mosley helps a PPV - with Oscar, Cotto, Mayweather- sell better than a UFC PPV often does, and he has, its relevant to this discussion and means he IS shit; in terms of boxing stars vs. UFC stars.
boxing doesnt need to be mainstream to survive, it has too much history to die. When Mayweather & Pac retire people will continue to watch boxing and pick a new superstar. For example, Ricans love Cotto but when he retires alot of attention will go to new PR boxers like Juan Ma, Cubans have a star on the risen in Gamboa, Amir Khan has big potential to cross over, Victor Ortiz can still shine, Andre Direll, Chad Dawson, P williams , Devon Alexander are a few Black boxers that can all shine. Saul Alvarez has to skills to be the Next true Mexican champ...... This Frank Mir guy opinion is crap, Without Brock Lesnar that sport has suffered a major decline in #s.
Can you please tell me how it was with Mosley headlining vs Mayorga??
Just because Mosley isn't at a stage of his career where he's selling out when he's the only big name doesn't mean he hasn't consistently shown he can make a very lucrative dance partner and, when paired right, bring in a much bigger share of money for his opponent. Watch. Mosley-Mayweather numbers will be VERY good.
Stupid comments once again from someone inside the MMA world.
We watch Boxing for the love of the sport the big fights are just a bonus to us.
The UFC could lose Anderson Silva, GSP or Lesnar then they would be dead. UFC PPV buys seem to be on the slide due to them putting so many fight cards. Casual fans will get bored of that soon enough once they can't keep up with payements.
I'm a fan of MMA too but hate when MMA people come out and say our Sport is Dying or it is DEAD. Mir worry about Carwin who will knock you out.
You know why I find this stupidly laughable?
A few years ago, sift back through the countless comments from the UFC and its fans, about how boxing was 'dead or dying to MMA', with countless explanations of how boxing was surely dead, without a doubt there was no coming back, etc.
Now, with Manny Pacquiao's meteoric rise to fame, with Floyd's continued career growth, with other men who can sell a decent crowd like Cotto, Mosley, etc. the fact is begrudgingly accepted that boxing, consistently, sells big - bigger than UFC - when one of its superstars fights.
So now its gone from boxing is dead to, 'boxing may have continued in steady enough fashion to see several superstars shine, but if it wasn't for the best in your sport existing, well, we'd kill you in ratings..'
That's a pretty big improvement from the 'you're dead boxing' lines of a few years back. Guess boxing doesn't die, huh?
We're fans of the Zombie sport I guess. The living-dead that keeps churning out hugely successful PPV numbers thanks to Manny, for instance, and has several big names on the horizon, but is somehow dead.
Works for me.
Their tests are exactly the same tests all Boxers who've fought in Vegas go through.
Nevada doesn't have a separate testing protocol for MMA and Boxing.
yeah what he says...cause not all boxing matches are drug tested either
You realize they dont test in the UFC right?

Go talk about UFC's struggles as of late...
UFC 100 1,600,000 + 245%
UFC 101 850,000 + 29%
UFC 102 435,000 -30%
UFC 103 375,000 -40%
UFC 104 500,000 -20%
UFC 106 375,000 -40%
UFC 107 620,000 +/- 0
UFC 108 300,000 -51%
UFC 109 275,000 -55%
UFC 110 240,000 -62%
and Germany already banned the UFC from their country :haha:.
and this idiot has the guts to say boxing it's dead?.
I guess those bombs by Lesnar really messed his brain cells up.
IN the UFC you can take youtube fighters and WWE wrestlers and have them do well on PPV. In boxing you can't do that shit. Floyd and Manny had to beat great fighters to become huge draws.
oh really? i didn't know you can easily replace pacquiao or mayweather in the eyes of the casual fans.
dosent matter the casual fans arent the ones keeping it alive. we are
There's too much steroid abuse in MMA, you can tell just by looking at the fighters. I can't support a sport that condones that.
lol well till its proven dont think its legit to make tht comment at all..their is juicing going on everywhere in all sports like it or not
