hagler maybe hit his peak in 1985 when he fought tommy hearns.. i truly think on that night no 160 could have beat hagler,be it rrj.srl,bh. no one, could rrj have took the punishment hearns did that night.. not a chance.
Hagler would have destroyed Roy Jones. Look at what he did to some of the other ATG and some other great fighters. Jones would not have stood a chance in this one.
After thinking about this..first I said Hagler..but..I think Roy would actually pull out the dec. When RJ was at 160..he was just a freak..came in from across the ring with a flying upercut..he did things that i never seen anyone do in boxing and get away with.
good fight but hagler would wear him down and stop him. roy wouldnt be able to hold hagler off with his speed and power and be forced to fight at too fast a pace and use up his legs.
haglers ability to cut off the ring and attack the body would wear him down and roys inability to fight on the inside would see him punished and ready to go in 10 if hagler doesnt clip him even sooner.
and can you little kids please stop basing your opinions of hagler on the leonard fight. dont you realise he was way past his prime by by then? might as well judge jones on the johnson fight.
it's a hard fight to pick. On paper jones physical attributes should win. But if Hagler realyl really brings his A game and chases Jones around the ring it could get ugly fast. Jones has a slight size advantage, but not a huge one. Hagler has a longer reach. Remember Hearns was damn near 6'2, Jones is about 5-10-5-11 with a 74 reach.
Let's put it like this: What can Leonard do that Roy Jones can't do better?
Very good point, but some people think Hagler won that fight. And, that wasn't even a prime Hagler. Also would it be a 12 or 15 round fight. Make no mistake there was a reason why Leonard wanted a 12 round fight and not go 15 with Hagler.
Jones had a size advantage, but was relatively inexperienced at MW. He had a ton of experience against southpaws, but most of that was later on, at 168 and 175.
I think much of this depends on what kind of style Hagler elects to fight in. If he fights in his usual more patient boxing style, I think Roy still has the incredible speed, reflexes, and smarts to win a decision. If Hagler fights in the ultra aggressive manner he did against Hearns, his chances increase and he can definitely pick that one.
