You're blinded by your bias.
Ward is five years into his professional career and he just beat the #1 fighter in his division and won his first world title.
When Martinez was five years into his pro career he was fighting club fighters in Spain. Yet now, six years later, Martinez is a titlist and arguably just beat one of the top p4p fighters in the world.
If Martinez can accomplish what he has in the second half of his career, how can you say that Ward doesn't have an equal or greater upside, given how his career has progressed compared to Martinez' early years. Ward could easily be a top p4p fighter in two or three years time, much less 12 years into his career, where Martinez currently is.
Sorry to disagree but I just don't see much improvement where all you do is throw a quick combo, hold, butt, move, pop shot, hold, move, and butt a little more to win fights. Yeah I might be bias, I dislike Ward because of style.
A gold medal, big deal, he hasn't done anything except beat an off-night Kessler so far in his career, he ain't that young anymore, he's almost 26 and he's been fighting tomato cans up to Kessler. I don't see how much more improvement he's gonna have, I guess we can leave this discussion after the tournament ends.

Ive never seen an expert say he had an off night. Sure it's possible, but just an opinion.
He won a gold medal to. His career is young. Your just assuming he won't improve, because you don't like him.

you get him out of his hometown enviroment with a reff like Kenny Bayless in there and the holding stops BIG TIME...He is limited with the use of his head and we see what skills he has other than holding and hitting, butting and pushing off...Lefty
Obviously Ward has to prove the fight against Kessler wasn't a one time performance, but right now I'd say he is better.
I really think Kessler had a big time off night against Ward, sure Ward looked pretty impressive but he holds and butts a lot, he's not an exciting fighter. He's got the tools but he won't get too far from where he's at right now.
Martinez is a good fighter, but Ward's youth and talent give him the far better upside.
Martinez is at or near his peak, while Ward is still improving and has the potential to become something special IMO.
