Where does he rank in the Top 50 ATGs?
A ferocious body puncher with excellent boxing skills. He was quick, tough and a very difficult opponent. Had an excellent resume, beating the following:
Ayub Kalule
Julian Jackson
Milton McRory
Donald Curry
Sumbu Kalambay
Herol Graham
Steve Collins
Michael Watson
and arguably beat James Toney twice.
The Body Snatcher!
Man could he fight. I would say he is definitely a top 50.
I got the chance to hang with him up in Minnesota last month and it was very enjoyable.
McCallum was a damn good fighter. He beat a lot of quality fighters that campaigned in or around his weight class(es). My personal favorite is that Watson fight. He was on that night.
Oh yes! Excellent resume...
Shame the Fab 4 avoided him.

He was an accomplished amateur as well.
I saw McCallum recently on a ShoBox card. He did get fat. :lol1:. As a poster on here said, it looks like someone snatched his body and stuffed it with cheeseburgers.
I can't say where he ranks all time, as I've never made a list before. For me to do so would be unfair to other fighters.
Mike McCallum was highly underrated because of his subtle skill. He was a real craftsman that was difficult to hit and had an efficient economy of movement style that just broke his oponents down bit by bit. James Toney really rated him. when he was fighting I was always hoping he would ge pitted against the likes of Hagler,Hearns and Sugar Ray. He would have given those guys a real hard time . I suspect they avoided him. to me he was a top echelon boxer but only real fans who know boxing could see how good he really was. Other boxers knew how good he was.
mike mccallum is HIGHLY underrated, some people dont even know he existed
not sure where i would put him on the atg list
and andrew did you notice it's an "n" instead of an "m" on the trunks mike's wearing on your avatar?
Indeed he is!
Re: Spelling - I did, yes!
hes a top 25 fighter imo. most will find that over the top but he was a great, great fighter. most complete fighter ever and would give anyone in the history of the sport a good run for their money between the ropes.
his resume and ability are both top notch.
Good post. I would have him ~30. It's difficult to find a weak spot anywhere, either skills or resume!
Avoided like the plague by the Fab 4, which is a testament to his skills!
