The tuesday morning quarterback writer Gregg Easterbrook answered a readers mail letter in his article and said:
Finally, John Manning of Adelaide, Australia, writes, "With all the heat on the NFL over concussions, what does this say about boxing, where the ideal outcome is to concuss someone so senseless that he loses consciousness? In American football, a concussion is an unfortunate accident. In boxing, it is the object of the sport and a probable outcome." Amen. TMQ favors the banning of all forms of prizefighting. Players get hurt in football, but harm is not the intent of the game -- ballet dancers may ruin their knees or skiers break bones, but those are accidents too. There can be fantastically well-played, hard-hitting football games in which no harm occurs to any player. Boxing is about causing harm. The sport is barbaric, and the sooner it's banned the better.
The tuesday morning quarterback writer Gregg Easterbrook answered a readers mail letter in his article and said:
well, the difference is that boxers don't get concussions every few weeks.
helmet to helmet tackles and collisions at top running speed by someone who is 200+lbs, is going to be far worse than a punches to the dome from someone your own size an weight............
the name of the game is to hit and not be hit, if you get koed..it's an accident.lol
the name of the game should be changed, it was proven to be boring if its always hit and not be hit just like floyd.
Boxing should be banned
Fukk that guy. That moronic ESPN writer is as dumb as a bag of rocks, every sport has injuries associated with it. Might as well ban hockey, there are just as bad of fights on the ice, better yet put that dope in the ring and let someone prove he's not much of a man.:boxing:
My opinion is if people don't like boxing don't watch it. I enjoy boxing, it's a great sport, i enjoy watching and participating in it!:blackeye:
Is this asshole serious....An NFL Player is injured more then anyone in any sport.
Looks to me he doesn't have the obvious passion for the sport. He's a typical armchair sporting guru. :bottle:
Though it might be nice to ask that "sports writer" if he bets on cockfights, or dog fights :hitit:
The tuesday morning quarterback writer Gregg Easterbrook answered a readers mail letter in his article and said:
wtf is he talking about, the object of the game of football is to tackle recievers and sack quarterback and the means hurting them. what a dumbass.
You can immediately turn that on it's head and say...
In some tackles guys are trying to do harm, in say Rugby, American football, as much as people may like to believe otherwise. Whereas in some boxing matches, a guy can be trying to avoid punches, and outbox not hurt.
injuries happen in all sport, PERIOD.
Does it happen in boxing way more, i.e. amount of time injured, ratio of serious injuries, career ending etc???
Hardly really AFAIK. So a very out of touch and arrogant view point.
