I know everyone hates Lennox Lewis, but aside from him do you tend to like or dislike having a boxers voice on commentary as the 3rd man. I think theyre usually horrible but occasionally entertaining for the wrong reasons. The best had to be just listening to Marvin Hagler commentating on Hearns-Leonard II. He so clearly hated both men, wouldn't give either any credit, but hated Leonard most, because he was blatently cheering for Herns during the fight. He actually yelled "Come on Tommy! Come on Tommy!" right over the other two at certain points. So funny
I am kind of WTF at the decision though, especially the 10-8 from shirley in the 12th round. garbage
whyd they never have a 3rd fight?

Yea I thought Hearns won the fight but I've never scored it...but 2 knockdowns and Hearns won a good amount of early rounds...
Leonard admits he thought Tommy shoulda got the decision...
Both were past there primes tho...
Why did people not like Foreman? I love an elite fighter serving as a commentator. It really doesn't matter who it is, as long as they can speak clearly. Even Lennox and Bernard, the two that seem to be hated the most, both make interesting points that only a fighter of championship status would be able to point out. I especially liked Foreman and Roy Jones, and I also think Tarver is doing a good job right now.
All Foreman ever did was talking about how the other fighter "Didnt want get get into it with this big puncher, all it takes is one big punch and he'll be on the floor."
How obvious can you be? And even though it is true he said it EVERY fight. I think he is just a shitty commentator that most people just like for some reason, just like John Madden. They are like novelty figures for their sports, doent make them good commentators.
Depends on who the fighter is. Lennox Lewis, is usually a miss. Rarely hits. But, at the same time, Tarver and Roy Jones are very formidable commentators. Raul Marquez is a very solid announcer for the Spanish team, as well.
HAHA, What a coincidence! i just started watching Bowe-Holyfield I for the first time. (yes i know, its bad) but anyways, guess who was commenting? George Foreman which i just was thinking that i wanted to hear :O
Germany - we sometimes have Henry Maske, Darius "Tiger" Michalczewski, and others. While Maske does a good job (insightful commentaries), few other fighters have the trained voices. Slurred speech, or slow commentaries, or something the reporter already said.
More often than not its a pain to listen to them.
Maske is really good. So is Tarver.
Historically Missdeecole mentions Hagler. What about Ali? You gotta love the Foreman-Norton fight. Ali picked Norton to at least give Foreman problems. Of course Norton got blown out and Ali was disgusted with Norton: "That won't happen to me! I'm a proFESSional!" Ali's antics gave me a great lol. He was so funny.

I cant stand Lennox, only seen a couple of fights that he doing, but still.
The one i like the most gotta be Roy Jones, even though he does sound like a hillbillie sometimes :D but i can definately live with that :)
They aren't as good analyzing and verbally expressing it, as they are applying it.
Why does HBO stick with getting the best boxers inside the ring, instead of the ones who express themself the best outside of it?
Lennox has done 100-200 more shows than Antonio Tarver and Milk Dud of Malice puts him to shame.

I like most of them offering insight. Most commentators have never been in the ring and though they are trained well to be behind the mic, lack the insight that ex-pro boxers have. Just don't let have the mic too long.
Depends on the fighter I like Tarver, Jones, and Leonard for what they say about what is going on. I like Lennox because he cracks me up.
I am however happy I never have to listen to Foreman do another fight again.
I like Tarver better as a commentator than a fighter. Jones was good. Foreman was the worst, he was like John Madden to the NFL. Big cuddley friendly guy with nothing to say.
I've liked what I've heard/seen from Antonio Tarver on the Showtime broadcasts. But the other guys Lennox Lewis, George Foreman and Roy Jones Jr to some degree I can pretty much do without. Having a fighter on there or even a trainer like Emanuel Stewart is only good if they can convey the insight they have in a manner where you can understand them.
