First of all... Brian Pinto has some freaking balls... seems like one of those guys who is too stubborn for his own good, the type who could get hit with a sledge hammer and keep swinging... i expect no less from a former PIAA football player!
Secondly, WHAT A FIGHT! played out exactly as i expected... although i wasnt certain either fighter would go down. i felt a lot of people were underestimating Martinez, for he surely was game. I was ok with obviously two of the three cards... i could have seen it going as wide as 116-112 at most, but that could have been in either favor... any score within that range for either fighter would have been understandable IMO
I hope both fighters' fan bases grew last night as well... it was a stellar performance, one of the best 12 round non title fights i've seen in a loooong time
thirdly, arreola is getting worse and worse it seems... i understand pinto was game and had a hella chin, but pinto was in that fight a great deal more than he should have been, especially given the size disparity... arreola was taking some shots he shouldnt have... i really cannot see him being a legitimate champion... maybe put him against haye to see who is the better tier II HW champ....
and another great night by kellerman... he called the bullshit for what it was and did a nice little piece on the highlights of the year... say what you want about max, but he loves his boxing and wants to see it done right!
oh, and lastly.... i really wish they would have broadcast the Quintana vs Feliciano fight.... i heard it was good and those guys both bring it, imagine how much better the card would have been to have that on the air
it seems these lesser cards almost always end up as entertaining or more than the big hype ones!
It would really benefit Arreola to get a better camp around him.
If he really cares about being champion he would do it.
i was surprised to hear from his trainer that they would actually get into it about getting him to the gym
tells a different tale than fatty just saying its late night eating
his trainer called him out on not wanting to train
:lol1:
Yeah, definitely. I made a thread on it last year. The general consensus seems to be that the last thing we need is more divisions, and to some extent I agree, but who cares when it's over 200lbs. Sure, we don't need any divisions lower down, but honestly I would like to see some kind of separation between guys like Minto and the likes of Valuev. The physical advantages are outrageous. Super Heavyweight can't be anything but a good idea. I can't think of a single reason why it shouldn't exist. The fact that there are so many weight classes lower down isn't a strong enough argument.
A super heavyweight division would just take away competition. Boxers who are really cruiserweights and move up to heavyweight do so in their own risk. Tomasz Adamek is a former LHW champion, now a heavyweight, he doesn't care about the size disadvantage. As for Valuev, he just lost to Haye who was a former cruiserweight champion.
Another great fookin post. Green k for you as well.
Lol. It all depend's how many brews's are in my fridge. Plus, mad is from Sac-town. Tua is gonna call me a CBA'er for sure......
i think it would also encourage a lot of the eddie chambers etc to condition well to make the weight
that could be a hella exciting division too, the tier II HWs are mostly tier II because they are too small...
even though some lack skill, pitting them against each other would be great...
adamek could do some serious damage in a class like that!
Yep, guys like Chambers and Arreola would probably be encouraged to get in better shape, in fact that was something I meant to mention.
Anyway, agree on all points.

either that or maybe widening up the cruiserweight limit

yeah... something to separate the Mintos from the Klitschkos
like a HW and super HW>230ish

Damn Sweet Pea you must be in a great mood today.
Peace.
Nothing lightens up the Internet Boxing Community like a stellar fight.
Oh, and thanks Sweet Pea.
i gotta admit, as lampley called it... that left to the body, right hook combo was MONEY for martinez
when they rematch pwill might want to take a look at how to stop that!
I had it dead even at 5 rounds apiece, and gave the last two rounds to Sergio Gabriel.
115-113 Martinez.
What I don't get though are the people posting on here "IF YOU HAD MARTINEZ WINNING THEN YOURE A RETARD!!!11" or "WILLIAMS STOLE A DECISION OVERRATEDZORZ!!!!!!!"
The beautiful thing about the fight was how evenly matched they were the entire bout, there's certainly nothing wrong if you gave the fight to Martinez or gave it to P-Will, it's one of those rare fights that'll be debated for a long while to come. And the best thing is no one is wrong.
But to absolutely crucify someone for giving it to the person you thought loss? Grow the fukk up.

Neither man won by more than 2 points. It was even after 10 and the last / rounds were the deciding factor in the fight. I gave the last 2 rounds to Sergio, even though he got tired he was landing that left hand flush. He landed the cleaner, harder blows.
I agree with most of what you said, but regarding Williams he couldn’t have been more prepared I have never seen him out of shape in any outing and was game throughout. However, I think mentally he came in with the same mentality he came in with the Carlos Quintana fight in that he was believing his own hype regarding being the “most feared man” and didn’t think he’d be pressed like he did in an all out trench war the way he did. He needs to work on his defense more and stop chasing the KO. But all else I agree with you.
Peace.
Well, he was training for Pavlik originally, although he probably did have enough time to prepare for Martinez. I dunno man. Something tells me he wasn't in his best form, but that sounds like I'm taking credit away from Martinez, which is not really the case. You might be correct -- maybe he did start to believe his own hype. A close fight might be exactly what he needed to highlight his flaws and force him to work harder.

Agree on Arreola. He shouldn't be getting knocked around by small heavies like that. Maybe the VK fight took something out of him. Maybe he's just not that good.
Other thoughts:
Breidis Prescott has shown absolutely 0 improvement since knocking out Khan. I had hopes for the kid, he has some good attributes, but oddly enough he seems to have gotten worse? Those wide looping punches are horrible. This kid badly needs a decent trainer. Mitchell did a good job, although I find his style irritating for some reason.
Khan looked superb. Roach and Ariza have done a sterling job so far. 140 is perfect for him.
Williams needs to avoid southpaws and stay around 154. Martinez is a great and underrated fighter. That fight was not a robbery, a case can be made for either man, but only by a round or so. I think a better prepared Williams would have a slightly easier time. Needs to sharpen up his defense and learn to make the most of his height.

martinez was game... but his legs were going late in that fight...
it was almost humorous, or motivational because his legs looked like wet noodles but his arms were still throwing and throwing hard....
good of both of them to take it on a months notice, Pwill taking on another lefty and Martinez taking on the freak!
not a lot of time to prepare for each others difficult style
Yep. Both deserve a shit ton of credit.
sam, what do you think of the idea of splitting up the HW division at say 220-230??
Splitting into more weight divisions?
