Saw in another thread that some posters think Pac is actually faster than Floyd. Personally, I don't agree but I think it raises an interesting question.
Which fighter is the faster of the two in your opinion?
:boxing:
I think Pacquiao def has faster hands, especially when he throws combinations and really starts to go to work.
But Mayweather has faster reflexes for his pot shots and counters, which probably evens things out.
So, if your talking about hand speed, Pac has faster combinations, but Mayweather throws single punches faster due to his reflexes. It's difficult to tell, they use their speed differently.
Faster in what sense? Hands? Movement? Defense? Footwork?
I just meant overall speed... So I guess it would encompass all those areas you mentioned.:cool3:
Basically, you can have the slickest skills in the world, but if you're confidence is so shattered that you dare not even throw a punch, you're done.
This is a good point.
who will be mentally tougher?
I will say that despite Floyd getting a bad rap on here, his will has never been broken.. That would be something to see..
Manny Pacquiao is faster overall, by foot and hand, and also in combination punching. Floyd is fast, too, but nowadays doesn't seem to throw many combo's, mostly just single shots.
One other thing, while I'm here -- Pacquiao's mental strength is insane. If Manny can break Floyd's mind like he broke Oscar and Cotto's, Manny won't have any problems. This fight won't be decided on technical skills alone, such as "well, Floyd's more accurate, and he is the better boxer, so he wins a UD". That's some simple-minded shit. It's also about the things you don't see. Watch the end of round 8 of Pacquiao-De La Hoya. That's a good example of one man imposing his will over another and refusing to have it any other way. Manny made a statement right there by allowing Oscar to hit him, then taking him into the corner and hitting Oscar much harder. It was as though Pacquiao was saying "if you really want to go there, next round you're getting knocked out. Don't make me hurt you."
That's when Oscar quit. His mind was broken right there and then, you can literally watch it happen. I don't think Manny wanted to hurt him any more, just like Cotto. And to think these are guys he respects. He doesn't respect Mayweather at all, hence why I think we need to look at things other than the obvious stuff such as speed, footwork, etc. Focusing on intagibles alone, I have a hard time seeing how Mayweather wins.
Mental strength is what won Pacquiao the battle with Cotto, not just technique. Many people said Cotto was the superior boxer before that fight. Manny didn't need a beautifully crafted jab, slick boxing skills and all that clever shit, he needed to destroy Cotto's mind. Once that was done, the rest came easy.

DLH was pretty much past his prime, he barley beat Steve Forbes who was a light puncher. Miguel Cotto is a mentally tough boxer, Pacquiao was just too fast and too powerful, it was more than just mental toughness. Also Cotto's trainer was inept, the guy was nutritionist coach, not the right way to prepare for a fight. I'm actually surprised Cotto beat Clottey with the trainer he had.
You think PBF is removed from his prime?
If Mayweather is going to beat Pacquiao, he has to be as good as he was in his prime or close to it. Yes PBF is no longer in his prime because he's not fighting in his natural weight class, not to mention he's been very inactive.
If PBF was more active, I'd favor PBF easily over Pacquiao. But he's only fighting once or twice a year.

floyd has a better chin than most people think..people just say otherwise cuz they hate him..i use to be like that
I agree he has a good chin, but Pac's power just seems to be increasing with every fight, and if this one is at 147, i think his workrate will, soon catch up with Floyd. He is simply something else.
Manny is a thousand times faster, and this will show when they fight, only problem is, Floyds defence is just as fast. I'm sorry but if Pacquiao catches Mayweather, it's lights out.
pac's lead left is faster than pbf's lead right
uppercuts goes to pac
hooks pbf
jabs definitley goes to pbf.
combo's go to pbf. though he doesn't throw them often, he is definitley the faster combination puncher when he wants to be.
