I think it was more about Cotto's timing. Pacquiao is still faster. I think it was more reaction time. Pacquiao could stop and turn on a dime whereas Cotto's brain doesnt process things as quickly. But when they both have their motor running Pacquiao only had a slight edge in speed.

Cotto was never as fast, nor will he ever be. He was pretty quick in the first round because Manny took that round to test Cotto's power, which he explained after the fight. When Pacquiao switched gears, it was a totally different fight. Steward was wrong. What?! Steward is the best analyst on HBO or Showtime. He is not the best at articulating but he is by far the best technical analyst. Do you guys just not know how to interpret what he says verbatim versus what he actually means? Like when he says Cotto is 'just a fast as Pacquiao'. He doesn't actually mean their punches are the same speed... what he means is that Cotto's punch speed is fast enough that Manny's speed advantage will not be an important factor in the outcome of the fight. He's not the most educated guy in the world.... he's a boxing trainer... A couple quick examples that I can remember off of the top of my head. In the 2nd round of Mayweather v. Hatton : Steward stressed that Mayweather's check hook was going to be a huge factor in the outcome of the fight. In the 2nd round of Pacquiao v. de la Hoya he predicted the outcome of the fight in the 2nd round. and was rock solid sure of it. remember at the time De La Hoya was a huge betting favorite... and the first round wasnt even all that impressive by Pacquiao. The other announcers came to this conclusion somewhere around the 5th. He also has by far the best intuition about how close to being knocked out a boxer is. When Manny says a fight is over, it's over. This is not always true for other announcers.
