Will a victory over Miguel Cotto be enough to make Manny Pacquiao the fighter of the decade?
I vote yes.
If he doesn´t, Cotto might be one of the contenders, but I would vote Calzaghe.
Pac hands down FOTD even if he losses to Cotto. Pac is still FOTD. I think Floyd sould be second. Floyd resume after 2003 is nothing special. And, Hopkins third.
Hopkins? Hopkins is great. A very smart fighter. Beat the living sh*t out of Pavlik.
But his wins against De la Hoya and Tito... let's say he won them with his intelligence. He suckered those two into fighting him at his weight. They had no business in that ring.
So he gets a third place as fighter of the decade by beating Tarver, Winky and Pavlik, by losing a close fight against Calz and losing two decisions against Taylor. I don't know...

Who did he NEED to give a rematch to other than Castillo: Diego Corrales (KO in 10 after five knockdowns); Angel Manfredy (KO in 2); Genaro Hernandez (KO in 8); Arturo Gatto (KO in 6); Hatton (KO in 10); Judah (lost the last 8 rounds convincingly and woudl have been KOd if not for a low blow); Carlos Baldomir (who lost all 12 rounds). Of course you had Castillo up 8-4. You hate Mayweather. You didn't mention the second fight. Did you score the second fight 8-4 for Castillo also? even though Mayweather won 10 out of the 12 rounds?
The person who deserved a rematch was Juan Manuel Marquez after the second Pac fight. Unfortunately, Pac refused to give it to him. Instead he chose to fight world-beater David Diaz. Not to fret, though. Pac will fight Marquez next, not because he wants to, but because Arum willl not expose Pac to a Mayweather ass-whipping.
yea that makes you look like a reasonable poster........
Hahaha.....Mayweather would not even fight Cotto, Mosley or P will....all are in PBF's weight division....
PBF could have waited a DAY to challenge Pac but he announced he will be fighting a boxer 2 divisions LOWER.....
what a delusional PBF nuthugger :haha:
He will be fighter of the year. If he wants to be fighter of the decade, he will have to fight and beat Mayweather and he won't do that. Bob Arum has already decided that Pac's next fight will be against Juan Manuel Marquez. He won't even try a SERIOUS negotiation for a Mayweather fight. However, he will claim that it couldn't be made and will make the Marquez fight. Then, all the clowns on this site will claim that Mayweather priced himself out when the truth is, Arum never had any intention of putting Pac in the ring with Mayweather in his next fight.
Mayweather never gives rematches. The fact that he did, shows he knew he lost and wanted to come back and prove something.
I had Castillo up 8-4.
:D

u musta listened to the commentators too much, cause while the fight was close and coulda gone either way it woulda been by a point not 4 .... and ya he never gives rematches why would he theres never been reason too he has never lost a fight or barely a rd. he never thought he lost but some others did so he rematched jlc to prove his superiorty how can that be thought as a negative thing
Lost to Castillo and fought a bunch of small guys ?
He actually edged out Castillo for the win, and there was an immediate re-match afterward. Somebody lost that one by unanimous decision.
even WITHOUT a Cotto win, Pacquiao is the FOTD in a Ring Magazine article written by Michael Rosenthal and Doug Fischer.....

Even if Mayweather wins over Pac, it does not really count because this is not a boxing match as to who wins over who.....if Bhop KO's PBF, does that mean BHOP is the FOTD? of course not.....
FOTD examine's a boxer's resume for that decade.....SRL was the FOTD according to the Ring article even if he lost to Duran who was coming up in weight....
more importantly, a Pac-PBF fight next year would not count because the decade of 2000 ends at 12/31/2009
Nice.
I think that even if Pac doesn´t wins, but puts up a competitive fight (like Duran in his fight with Hagler), it closes up the debate.

The winner of Mayweather-Pacquiao would be the fighter of the Decade..
Mayweather did a lot in the early part of the decade..as where Manny was establishing his name..now that Manny's on top..Mayweather's doing some suspect shit..
so definitely would determine the FOTD if Pacquiao were to win..
Cotto became Pro in 2001 and has accomplished a lot..but not to the level of Mayweather or Pacquiao.
Question..who has held the Top P4P spot longer in the 2000's?
Better question would be do you honestly believe Floyd's cherrypickin ass would have been able to keep that top spot had he not retired???
six time world champion in 6 diffrent weight class division
2 time Ring Magazine Fighter of the year.
ESPY's fighter of the year and Play of the Year.
Defeated HOF Barrera,Morales,Marquez,Hatton,DelaHoya,
One of the Top Draws in Boxing
All his fights are exciting and are worth paying for..
Win or lose, Pac is the fighter of the decade for me..
I say yes. This would be a huge win for Manny. Mayweather and "fighter of the decade" doesn't even belong in the same sentence.
I guess you forgot what Mayweather did earlier in this past decade....
I thought people would respect Calz a lot more after his ¨victories¨ over RJJ and Hopkins.
Personally, I scored the Hopkins fight for Hopkins. Still the judged gave it to Calz. It was a close fight.
I give him a lot of credit because even though he was never as talented as RJJ, he knew how to never give up and overwhelm his opponents with sheer output round after round.
lol "victories" yea a gift decision and beating a shot guy earns you respect? his only legit victories over top fighters were kessler and lacy so i hardly think that qualifies as fighter of the decade. fighter of the second maybe?
No doubt if Manny Defeats Cotto he would be the CLEAR fighter of the decade.
Great resume, Great Wars, Several Rematches, Entertaining Style, Multi-Divison Champ. Mega fights and always active.
Pac has done it all.
Even when he loses to Mayweather I'll consider Pac the best of the decade.
Mayweather is the best fighter of the generation though.

Yeah, but at the same time, Manny established himself in the lower weight classes. He only got big now in the eyes of casual boxing fans with his wins over Oscar and Hatton. To many, they were already calling him better than Floyd or P4P #1 when he was at 130lbs. Heck even after whooping Barrera people put him in P4P rankings. And that's all after whooping a lot of ass in asia. I mean, Pac's got just as good of an early part as he does now. He may not have been technically as sound, but he was fighting the best he could back then. The top 3 Mexicans of the last 10 years within a 1 1/2 year time frame.
