Just curious who everyone's favorite heavyweight fighter was and a couple of words why
I liked most of em like Tyson and Holmes but probably my absolute favorite is Joe Frazier. I loved how he was relentless and how he has a pretty good defense considering how aggressive he was. That Left hook was out of this world. He also seems like a real good guy.
Its between Frazier, Holyfield and Tyson. Went with Tyson though, mainly because boxing is not a big sport in Norway. none of my friends care at all. And Tyson was the first boxer i ever heard of. and i have been fascinated since day one.
Lennox Claudius Lewis. Great style with an awesome jab and power. Was usually in great shape and had a really marketable look. Suffered two brutal losses, both of which would've totally broken most fighters' careers, yet avenged both by KO. Beat several top heavies in their own backyard. Enjoyed a long stint as champ and his prime extended into his late 30s.
Never involved any religious BS in any of his interviews and openly admitted he didn't subscribe to organised religion (how many boxers can you say that about?). Was secure in who he was and never tried to portray the gangsta/tough guy role.
He also accompanied the British Bulldog to the ring at Summerslam '92 long before I became a boxing fan.
My only real criticism is that I feel it would've been cool if he'd given Vitali a rematch and trained for it like mad to end his career on an undisputed high, but I can understand why he didn't. There are always more fights.
Joe Frazier is my favourite. Ezzard Charles would be my second choice, although HW was not his greatest division as he ruled the LHW scene, but he is one of my favourite fighters of all-time.
Of recent years, Tyson get's my vote.
Joe Louis, and it isn't even close for me. Great fighter, greater puncher and probably the best finisher of all time. Was a patriot to his country even when the goverment screwed him. Quietly helped with the civil rights struggles of his time. If it wasn't for Joe Louis, many would never have heard of Jackie Robinson. A great man in and out of the ring.
Chris (rapid fire) Byrd.
a leg-less Sweetpea with even less power than Pernell proportionality.
yet he found ways to disappear in front of his opponents and score.
That feather fist TKO'ed Vitali Klitschko!
