In the last two fights, he has fought two light punchers.
Taylor hurt him and put him down.
Dirrell hurt him.
I'm excited to see what Kessler and Abraham can do to back my theory up on this and put his career to rest.
His chin is above average but it no where near the level of a shane mosley or someone like that. he has been hurt in his last two fights, taylor had him on queer street but because he's such a terrible finisher he couldnt do the job. I can imagine kessler and abraham taking this guy out.
He has to have a good chin to have gone as far as he has with little defense. Kessler and Abraham would likely hurt him, possibly knock him out, but that's because Froch gets hit far too much.
As an example from boxing's long history, Max Baer had a granite chin but he was finished off in only four rounds by Joe Louis. It was not because Baer couldn't take a punch but rather because he couldn't defend himself from Louis's pin-point accurate combinations.
I don't think Froch has a Librado Andrade type of a chin though. Now he was able to take Kessler's numerous combinations as if they were nothing. Froch won't.

I think his chin is ok to above average. But hoping AA will KO Froch. :D
His kids should probably be gasolined in their beds just to make sure this lack of intelligence doesn't pollute any future generations then.
Tomato/Tomoto... who gives a shit? He can't last twelve against anyone who can punch, so... I don't really care. His ability to last twelve against a good puncher is overrated, even if his chin isn't, so... it doesn't change my stance on him in boxing circles.
Not a rant against you, just Froch in general. Overrated can't cover the rep he gets, my god...
Right, I just think that says more about his defense then his chin. Defense and chin combined essentially amounts to durability so maybe it would be more appropriate to say his durability is overrated but I understand what your trying to get at.
Anybody can be huert if they get hit comin in or by a shot they don't see comin. Froch chin is rated highly cuz it's shown to be durable. We don't know if his chin is actually gr8 til he gets cracked by someone wit serious pop. Taylor got respectable power, but even on the KD Froch wasn't really hurt. I think Kessler might be able to KO him via accumulation. I don't think AA could finish him.

The irony of what you just said DWiens is that after Froch beat Taylor, his promoter, Mick Hennessy, said Froch is the kind of fighter that only comes around once every twenty years!

I still think he has a great chin. The difference is that his defense is terrible so he takes a lot more shots and anyone's chin can be cracked if they get hit enough. If he had the defense of someone like Hopkins we'd probably never see him hurt.

He has a pretty good chin, took some big shots from Pascal without buckling, Pascal went on to knockdown and hurt another durable guy at light heavyweight in Diaconu. But saying that, I don't think his chin is as good as some would believe, I don't think it's iron or anything like that, Dirrell and Taylor were the biggest punchers that he has fought and they both managed to hurt him.

The real point I took from the weekend is that Froch is the heir apparent to Roy Jones Jr.'s throne as the best fighter in the last 20 years. Sugar Ray Robinson better watch out!

How is Taylor a light puncher?
He may not have one punch knockout type power, but he's definitely got some power in his punches. His combinations are solid when he wants to be. It's just a problem with his stamina and heart that he stops punching and fades late into his fights. (kind of like zab judah)
He's also very uncomfortable when fighting on the inside.
Despite looking poor during the first 8 rounds, IMO he won the majority of them.
No one outside of the United Kingdom is contesting that... I think he should have gotten a win on the cards, and that the referee should be drawn and quartered for his ridiculousness, taking a point from the guy holding, and not taking a point from the guy throwing his opponent, landing clean when the referee yells "BREAK" and rabbit punching more than regular punching.

Afraid to engage, and are just looking for computer (numerical points - punches landed) points, rather than effectiveness of punches.
I love Dirrell to death, and he looked awful in the first 8. He started to look like he normally does in the last four. It would have been a wipeout had he fought that way for all 12 rounds.

What does that even mean? Theres thousands of styles in the amateurs

That said, his point remains, Froch's certainly qualifies as "any good", even if not quite equivalent to a 168lb Margarito (that would be Andrade?).
No, it's still not. A guy who fights amateur (which is the excuse I've heard from those who scored the fight for Froch) who doesn't put anything in his punches, and has always been considered a light puncher, hurting that badass with the granite chin tells me that someone ****ed up on their labels at some point.
He had Pavlik almost out of there and Pavlik's chin is pretty good.
I personally would say that both Dirrell and Taylor are not light hitters, they ain't the biggest punches in the tourney though.
I personally think Kessler and especially Abraham would take him out.
He also hit Pavlik with about 27 unanswered punches before he went down.
Both Kessler and Abraham will take him out. No doubt in my mind...

No such thing is the quality pro ranks as a 'light puncher'; just less heavy punchers.
Any good fighter can 'hurt' Froch (or Abraham, or Kessler, or whoever) with a good shot. There's no such thing as this legendary 'granite chin' that makes it's owner totally impervious to getting a straight right smack on the jaw.
What matters is not if you are shaken for a couple of seconds - all fighters can be. What matters is how quickly you recover. Froch was never in the slightest bit of trouble.
He hasn't really hurt very many of them either is the problem...
