Oscar was a MUCH bigger star than Floyd. He had even more leverage over the sport than Floyd did. He could have done what Floyd is doing, but he didn't, with the exception of his last fight.
In SPITE of the fact that Oscar could have fought bullshit opponents and gone undefeated and made a shit ton of money, he fought the absolute best. He deserves so much credit for that, he went out of his way to fight the best. He never disrespected the sport like Mayweather is. And people talk shit about Oscar, it's sad.
Floyd has been one of my favorite fighters for as long as I can remember, but I simply can't condone his bullshit anymore. The fact that this shit is even being DISCUSSED is pathetic.
It doesn't matter how he became a star, it's not about that. Mayweather is a star. Oscar has been a draw since the beginning of his career, but the fact that his biggest fight was against Mayweather cannot be denied.
I agree though, the handpicking is ridiculous. He has the ability to fight anyone he wants and always seems to go the easiest route. Oscar gets a lot of points from me for that. He put a lot of food on a lot of plates. He's a throwback and even though he rises in weight, Mayweather isn't.
But Mayweather invented that. Of course it helps, but he is credited with the creation so you can't use that as an excuse because it's still there. But really though, Oscar is not good tv, it would be his opponents selling the fights if he ever had it.
Very true. Oscar is boring T.V.
Oscar fought Trinidad ten years ago and continued fighting great fighters after that.
De La Hoya started fighting major names and dangerous fighters by age 24. Mayweather started a "real career" at 30 with just two fights before retiring.
"real career"
27 out of 40 fights were at 130?
what do you called that part of his career?

the biggest p.p.v stars of all time.
and the biggest NON HEAVYWEIGHT DRAW ever !!!! besides De la hoya.

Oscar was the man back then, I've seen much of his ealier stuff. I respect the opposition he has faced; even in losing, he continued to draw. But we all have to admit, Mayweather is coming close to reaching that kind of status.
I aint a Mayweather hater either.
But Floyd wasn't much of a star at all until he fought Oscar. Oscar didn't go up against the biggest draw in history to build his name...
Either way, thats not even the point. The point is that while Oscar could have handpicked his opponents, he had that leverage, he fought the best. I have so much respect for that.
I can only hope Mayweather eventually does that.

But, Oscar never had 24/7. Think about how much 24/7 helps the PPV sales.

The numbers are indicating otherwise.
Serious question no hating or nuthugging involved. How much do you think 24/7 helps to sell PPV fights?
If Oscar had 24/7 with the likes of Tito, Vargas, Hopkins, and Mayorga. Would he have done the same #'s or done more?
If Floyd did not have 24/7 would he get the same #'s or less?
If Pac did not have 24/7 would he get the same #'s or less?
He didnt cherry pick Tito but that fight was no different than Floyd vs Pac. A big money fight that he saw as very winnable. Why wouldnt he fight him? Again, Quartay had just had like a loss or a draw right before that fight and had been dropped twice. He's had a big history like that. Go look at boxrec and then look at his opponents before he faced them. He waits to see you vulnerable or he picks you because he has a size advantage
I don't need to look at boxrec. You might look at boxrec to get your info. I know my history. Quartey had a a draw against maestrito Lopez who was top 10 mabye top 5 WW at the time. And, Quartey should of gotten the decision.
Ruelas was on a winning streak. Gonzalez was undefeated and looking good, Molina winning streak. Hernandez was undefeated, Whitaker was on a winning streak and was coming off come from behind devastating KO of Hurtado, Mosley was undefeated and beat decisevely a top 10 WW.
Oscar was the money maker, He didn't need to fight Tito he could of made money withou him, he didn't need to fight Mosley, he didn't need to fight Hopkins, he didn't need to fight, Floyd, he didn't need to fight Pac. But, he did,
By, the way Ruelas and Tito were the same size as Oscar and B-Hop was way bigger than Oscar.
Are you saying he cherrypicked Tito?
Did he also cherrypicked Ruealas?
What about Whitaker?
What about Quartey?
What about Molina?
Did an overrated and I really mean overrated Oscar cherrypicked those 4?
And, for the record Mosley was LW you are right. But, Mosley was a proven top 147lbs after he beat Rivera.
So did he cherrypick Mosley too?He didnt cherry pick Tito but that fight was no different than Floyd vs Pac. A big money fight that he saw as very winnable. Why wouldnt he fight him? I'll preface this by saying I don't like Mayweather, but I'm not a hater, so I'm a give it to you pure.
Mayweather doesn't have Oscar's histoyr, but he's comparable. Why? Because Oscar never sold 1 mil in a supposed 'tuneup' fight. Even against Vargas and Mosley he couldn't hit 1 mil.

You guys dont pay attention. Ill expose him just like I did Pac. 1st off Oscar was criticized alot when he was younger for fighting smaller guys at the smaller weights while he was huge. Then when he started fighting good guys, they were all ususally coming off of a bad fight, a loss, a draw, or whatever. He fought Tito but that was no different than Floyd fighting Chico. They were both the same size and he knew Tito was no match for his movement. He fought Mosley but Shane was just fighting at LW. He fought Vargas after Tito ruined him. He's had a ton of fights like that

but the way Oscar lost to the smaller man PAC is not respectable at all...it actually hurts his legacy....Mexicans are known to be courageous and prideful fighters...and for his to take that fight being the bigger man...just as PBF did with MArquez...and then quit...was definitely a blow to his legacy...but there is an obvious double standard when PBF does it.....remember....Marquez is the same guy that beat PAC
1st marquez never beat pac and 2nd you need to quit boxing if you think the marquez that fought pac at 130 is thesame fighter at 147.
