Think about it
Amir Khan gets knocked out cold in the first round and in the interview straight after hes hungary.
Victor Ortiz gets clobbered over a period of rounds and cries that he's not sure if he wants to be a boxer.
KHAN VS ORTIZ WHO TAKES IT?
Khan destroyed Ortiz in the amateurs
DESTROYED
Stopped him in round 2 didn't he?
khan does have stoppage win over him but it is where the ref stops the fight because the opponent is loosing on points and the score is severely imbalanced, amateur boxinghttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2.gif scoring. dont go thinking khan "stopped" ortiz as in the professionals "stopped". amateurs dont mean much when it comes to the professionals. mayweather has 4 losses in the amateurs.
the human side of me sympathizes with ortiz, especially in light of gatti killing himself recently, not to mention the hundreds and hundreds of other boxers whose careers have messed them up...
the boxing fan in me will never respect him as a fighter again...boxing is a mans game, if you cant hang then hang them up...simple as that...if you cant take the punishment, then you should stay an amateur and fight in the olympics or something...
ortiz was hurt pretty bad, but he was by no means done...he wanted to be the big hero by playing no defense and trading shots, and maidana had more balls despite taking more shots...ortiz tried to fight a israel vasquez fight without the vasquez guts...
ill never pay to see ortiz fight, put it that way...he has a nice story, sure...he's good looking and charming, too...but im a boxing fan not some crappy reality TV show fan...
i dont think people should be questioning ortiz's heart based on one single incident, i think if you do that to any persons career you end up with a distorted view.
for instance take the first vasquez/marquez fight - israel quit because he broke his nose and he couldn't breathe properly. now anyone who takes that one incident and uses it to sum up vasquez's career would conclude that hes a quitter.
i think we should give ortiz a bit more time and see if he bounces back, how he responds to this criticsm. im not aying ortiz is a warrior and im not saying hes a quitter im just saying he hasa question mark over him and we should at least give him a few fights to answer that.
ortiz vs khan - right now id say khan, but if ortiz gets back to the level he was at pre-maidana id say that with his unorthodox stance and khans chin it wouldn't surprise me if khan finished the bout laid out on the canvas.
Khan is too fast and clever for Ortiz. Plus he has much, much, much more heart. Khan wins by technical boxing schooling. Ortiz can only win if he lands a big shot.
