I am not even a Calzaghe fan, but I wish he didn't retire. I mean shit, he finished off his career by beating up a washed up RJJ. I think he could of done better. He could of at least had a rematch vs Mikkel Kessler, or fought the winner of Bhop vs RJJ? He could of even fought Kelly Pavlik, Jermain Taylor, Carl Froch, AA, Chad Dawson, Adamek if he wanted to. A lot of people call Joe an ATG, but I personally think he did the same thing Floyd did, hung up his gloves to early. Who knows, maybe he will be back in the future. Hopefully not to late though.
What do you guys think?
I was hoping to see a Calzaghe v Paul Williams clash at some point. If The Punisher keeps winning while moving up, that would be a good money fight for Joe, seeing that's the only way he'll fight again.
calz vs g.johnson would have been a good fight, imo it would have been a real a slugfest and a hit with the fans!
would have loved to see joe take on abraham and dawson id like to see how he would have handled them and how the fight had played out.
If Calzaghe had remained a SMW then the Super 6 would never have happened. There would have been no point with a dominant fighter at the top of the division.
Of course, he went up to LHW, so maybe both were possible after all.
Simply I think Calzaghe left at exactly the right time for several reasons.
His motivation was becoming less and less, his hands were causing him trouble and he couldn't make 168. Therefore beating Dawson wouldn't have done anything other than made him a two weight world champ.
People would have said Dawson was too inexperienced and green at this point. Joe leaves with his 0 which is worth more than money.
His sons really hated to see him fight and he wanted to spend time with his family.
Why bother rematching, when he has nothing to gain and everything to lose? He made the right, sensible decision, his legacy cemented.
he should have fought dawson, who i think he would of beat by close decision, then retired
he was never going too star in the super 6
too old and too dominant
First of all, he retired A LONG time before the B-Hop-RJJ fight was announced. Also, why fight the winner of that? He already beat them both and got shit for them being old, imagine if he beat them when they were even older.
Second, all those guys you mentioned are SMWs, Calzaghe was draining himself to make that weight for a long time. That's why he moved up to 175 to fight RJJ and B-Hop. Adamek is too big, and not skilled enough to mean anything for Joe to fight him. Dawson is the only one at LHW that would've meant anything, but he's still too green and looked like shit against old-ass Glen Johnson. Calzaghe would gain nothing from that fight.
There really wasn't much left for him to do.
I still think Calzaghe had a couple more in him. He defiantly could of fought Dawson or Bhop. I am pretty sure Calzaghe is only 37 years old. And you say so what? He beat Bhop. Still doesn't mean he doesn't deserve a rematch.
Joe was starting to show some wear and tear from his age/injuries so I can respect his decision to walk away on top, but I would've loved to see him whoop Chad Dawson to cap off his career.

Yeah possibly. He should have fought Dawson, but it is what it is. I guess Joe didn''t feel he had anything more to prove to himself.

Calzaghe in the super 6 would have been awesome. I would have bet on him to win in every fight.
I would have bet on him to win every fight as well. Absolutely no reason not to.
36 years old, 25 years fighting, smashed up hands since age 14, the desire to get out of the game while remaining healthy, earned enough to keep his family comfortable. There are loads of reasons.

I still don't understand why Calzaghe retired.

what has kessler done since his loss to deserve a rematch?
only compelling fight would be vs adamek for cruiserweight title, which i think joe would win and should do
COME BACK JOE!
joe, wladimir and vitali are my fighters who i am sure will always win before their fights start, i know i can sit back and know my guy will win. gonna miss him now hes gone
Well I am pretty sure he has beat three people after fighting Joe, and he currently is in the smw tournament which should be exciting. Boxers have been beat in fights and rematched that opponent in later years? I am not even a Kessler fan, and those fighters who i brought up were in no particular order. I was just thinking about possible match ups.

I think as of right now, Mikkell and Abraham have a good chance at taking the tournment. He could of fought one of these guys. And I am curious to why you think nobody would want to see the Bhop vs Calzaghe rematch? I actually wouldn't mind seeing a rematch between these two fighters. And Dawson would of been interesting for sure.
I still don't understand why Calzaghe retired. Just like I don't understand why Floyd retired. It seems like every time one of these great fighters leave, options open up, and it gets the fans thinking about possible fights for that fighter.
That fight was pretty bad...I've only been able to watch it twice...
I'm a Bernard fan so of course I'd watch but the first one was a clinchfest...
And Joe and Floyd both cherish that 0...we kind of expected Floyd to return but I don't think Joe will be back...
