Gave Cotto such a beating with the plaster that Cotto has never been the same since then.
Cotto would still be the destroyer he once was right now if it weren't for Marg. He'd have had an easier time against Clottey. His sales would be better and he would have made tons more money if it weren't for Marg.
Cotto lost
-Fans (some casual ones)
-Money (He doesn't sell AS GOOD as he used to because he's not ultra destructive anymore)
- Confidence
- Performance
- His prime
Ughhhh its terrible. I can put more crap on that list above but I'm too lazy to write all the other things Cotto may have lost after Margarito screwed him over.
The worst part is, he can't sue. He can't get Margarito to give him back what Marg has stolen from him. He'll just have to live with the fact that some **** stole something from his entire boxing career and can't get it back.
Even though this subject has been beaten to death in this forum, and nobody has ever proven the master of plaster DIDN'T use loaded gloves again Cotto, he is, for the betterment of the sport, rightly banned from boxing in the USA, hopefully forever, because a boxer with loaded gloves is equivalant to using a deadly weapon.
And before anybody says it, I'm not claiming he did cheat, just that it's my opinion that he did.
I can say this because he got caught trying to cheat, and got his no good ass banned by the NSAC for attempting to cheat. If he didn't get caught, he would have cheated.
He broke Cotto's nose in the 2nd round? And look how messed up Cotto's face was. How often does that happen in boxing?? To ANY fighter? No wonder Shane beat the sh1t out of him. I bet he was pissed.
But as i have stated before, i think Cotto can look back in retrospect and say to himself, "sh1t, I lasted 11 rounds with a bigger guy with loaded gloves- "again-(maybe in Cotto mind )-knows if the gloves felt natural or not". He came back and toyed with Jenning for a tune-up to get back into his groove before sending him to the canvas, and Clottey cut him bad, he didn't take a knee there did he?
No, he could have stopped the fight and won on the scorecards in part of the 1st round knockdown, (with a freakin' jab), and went the distance and won that fight, though in some peoples mind he didn't.
No..he went the distance with him and beat him. And not many people want anything to do with Clottey. He's about as tough as they come. And he won that fight basically with one eye. He can add this to his arsenol of confidence. I don't know about you, but i know i'd be feeling pretty fuking confident after all he's been through.
He's battle hardened now, tried, true and a proven warrior. He got rewarded with a chance to wipe clean the controvery of his clouded past, and once and for all, put that ghost of a proven banned cheater behind him. Him and his cohort Capitello...consider this...cheato claims he knew nothing of the loading of his gloves...if this is true, why is he still associating himself with that scumbag? Reminiscent of Resto-Lewis....Assault in the Ring.
I guess we will see what he's really made of, cuz if anybody can bring out the best in Cotto, it's Manny, the tasmanian devil, with a killer instinct, blazing fast hands with good power behind them. He's whiley, highly mobile and elusive and smart, and he's got the best team going.
And now, with much thanks to Manny, Cotto stands in the doorway of greatness, rewarded with the fight and payday of a lifetime, while cheato slinks away in shame, probably trying to find work as drywall apprentice.
Life is the great equalizer...isn't it? :fing02:
Cotto is as good as always!! But Styles make fights, and nobody looks good against Clottey. But Cotto beat Clottey and knocked him down with a ****in JAB!! Cotto is as good as ever but Cotto vs. Pacman is a 50:50 fight, cant wait and i doesnt know if i should root for Cotto or Pacman, i like both!
Nobody has ever looked good fighting Josh Clottey. This thread will look really stupid if Cotto KO's Pacquiao and is headlining the biggest PPV of 2010 against Mayweather.
Yeah but the point is that Cotto didn't look as good against Clottey as he should have.
I think Cotto would have done better if Marg didn't beat him down so much. Cotto looks more off balance now and he wasn't going for body shots that were open for him during the Clottey fight.
The old Cotto would have hit Clottey right on the belt line to weaken him. This one doesn't do that anymore.
I dont see the connection.
Cotto didnt go to the body because he took a beating against Marg?
Why would a beating stop him throwing body punches?
Sometimes being KO'd drains a fighters confidence or make them appear older, and more chinny. But Cotto didnt show any of that IMO.

No if Cotto was done he would have been stopped by Clottey. That was a true test as he was cut bad and battled back. Now it's questionable whether he won the fight but he definitely showed that when he dug deep there was still that heart to fight.
He did damage Cotto's career. Cotto fights differently nowadays. He doesn't pressure as much and he ran for the later part of the fight against Clottey. He also looks like he's a bit afraid to take a punch. Saying all that, he is still one of the top Welterweights and Clottey is no push over.
He doesn't pressure because he is now fighting guys his size and cannot longer bully them like he did on the past against smaller opponents. He's been fighting top class big Welters now.
this topic is really a waste of time.
cotto is still the same man, he had 1 defeat in his professional record. If he had consecutive losses or loose to a bum like jennings the the argument could be made that his career and his psyche were damage goods.
did margarito have loaded gloves on the night he fought cotto? only he and his trainer know. If you ask me the posibility if very high that he did. Just my opinion based on the fact that he was suspended for a reason and that i have malice. Take it how ever you want it.

Get out of here with that bullshit, there was no plaster that night, it was just a straight up beating and the stronger most determined man won. As far of Cotto being ruined, he did win his last two fights after the massacre Dr. Doom put on that boy didn't he? albeit he looked like shit against Clottey and Jennings was just a bum ready to be scarified. I think Cotto's confidence and psyche has been shattered a bit but he's still a warrior and if there is one thing that can't be denied is that this man has taken the best names at Welter (except for PWill) and always comes in ready to fight and that's admirable in a fighter.
Ruin career? I don't think that is accurate imo...consider the last two fights...Jennings - he knocked out, and Clottey decisioned. Again Clottey is no push over. "Ruined career "suggests that he no longer is a top ww, and that he loses every fight he gets into...
I'm sure Cotto has changed the way he's fought, after Margo fight, i'm sure I'd change the way I fight too...it's called learning from your mistakes. Like someone else said Clottey will make anyone look bad. The real test is his next fight...we will see.
I've thought about this before, but when you come to think of it. After his tune-up fight, he could have taken an easier fight if his confidence was really that rocked, yet he took on Clottey, who is one tough mofo at that... I think he's alright, and if he beats Pac, he's probably bound to get better. I think he needs a change on his corner though...
Since they fought:
Cotto has gone 2-0 (1)
Margarito has gone 0-1 (1), and been banned for cheating.
That being said, I think they softened each other up a little.
I dont see how he has declined so much.
Clottey is as tough as hell, and Jennings was his first fight back, a 5th round KO.
He took a beating against Marg, but he also couldnt make a dent in him that night.
I believe against Pac he will put on a great show. He has to show the speed he once had when he was lighter.
Cotto still has it IMO.
This is what I said in another thread.
Sad watching Cotto's HL. He was improved in the Margarito fight, he has been on the decline since. I remember watching his fight against Shane, stunned at how he vastly improved and saying to myself, "If this improvement keeps up, he may actally beat Floyd".
