I think he has the right tools to beat Williams and mostly everyone in 154. I also think he beats Pavlik as well. He's a great boxer/puncher who does more on the pure side. He has a great snapping jab and enough power to do damage.
I would give him a 40% chance at beating Williams and a 70% chance at beating Pavlik who isn't as versatile as Williams.

I should make a post for every fight and say "I think so and so can win...BUT I'm picking the other guy."
lol, who the hell didn't give Martinez a great shot of winning? almost everyone expected a tough fight for Williams
Look at the date of the initial post numbnuts. I made it before this fight was even a thought. I'm not like you at all in the sense that I don't vote with my dick, I actually go with my instincts.

martinez is an exciting fighter and should be around for another 3-4 years or until he starts paying for having his hands down. He pounded williams' face time after time and made me swallow my words about his countering ability. Good fighter, great effort another notch on paul williams belt and story for the rise of a champion!!
If I was big on the living legend like so many are then it wouldve proved a ton but Im not. Im not big on neither guy. You cant make an excuse for the Cintron fight. Cintron is horrible and you times that by 10 when you are talking about him fighting a Southpaw, yet Martinez still looked like crap. Williams loss to Quintana. I cant beleive how people dont even care about that. You cant convince me that these guys are great fighters after that. People just think because a fight is great means that they are great fighters. They are good fighters but not on the very elite level. Most guys arent now days
your opinion"peeleft:
I became a Sergio Martinez fan tonight because he was exciting and was all effort.
But the truth is that he is feather fisted at the World Class level. If he was heavier handed Williams would still be sleeping. I lost count how many times Martinez caught Willimas flush and outside of the 1st round KD they had no residual effect on Williams.
Well, he's certainly up there in the P4P dishlist. Maybe number one even? (no homo)
Though he would get robbed no doubt if he had a dishoff in the US. Twice.
He'd beat the shit out of Chavez Jr. and make that one dude HTown look silly once again.
Sergio fights really smart though. I liked how he kept getting inside and tried often to land the uppercut. He took away Pauls length like that.
See Dom? See how 2 TRUE students of the game know whats up?
I've been saying it for a long time, Martinez is that damn good. I was surprised with all the, "Paul will kill Martinez!" crap.
I'm officially a Sergio Martinez fan now. What a fight. He's so fast and athletic. I can't wait to see him fight again. War Martinez!!
