tommy's my boy, and i know he can outbox roy, but he couldn't take it to the body his whole career...jones was more of a headhunter @ 168, but went to the body with good results when he needed to, usually against the longer, tougher opposition...@ 168 i don't know if he could take tommy's right hand flush, but he was fast enough to avoid tommy's big shots, or at least roll with them, and strong enough to do damage downstairs and walk him down...jones ud 12
Hearns is great and Roy would have to be carefull about the straight right but eventually he would find his way to land big on Hearns and stop him just like Leonard in their first fight. In this fight Roy is the bigger version of Ray Leonard, just as good speed but more unpredictable and with more power.
total agree i am fan of ray and roy but roy have more conditions
anybody who says Hearns can beat roy at 168 is a dumb ass, Roy was unbeatable when he fought at 168. Hearns best weight was 154, Hearns wouldn't beat James Toney at 168 either
F*ck outta here with that . Hearns wouldn't have came in at the limit and he'd still be able to crack Roy's chin. Toney had a better style to beat Hearns, that jumping in and out shit Roy does would not fly with TH.
Roy would have a lot of respect for Hearns' power and try to play keep away from the outside. Tommy's long, fast, snapping jab would be a problem and he'd be able to land sooner or later on Roy. I don't think he'd be able to take it either.
One thing everyone that beat a prime/close to prime Hearns have in common is a great chin something you nor I know if Jones has. So you're the dumbass for saying that bullshit.

Poster get too mesmerized by RJ, to a point, where they aren't able to pick against him despite his resume not backing it up?
A past it version of Hearns beat RJ's best win (Virgil Hill) when Hill was undefeated. The question becomes tricky at 168, but I can't see Tommy not being able to tag him with his jab and eventually putting the right on his chin (which I don't think RJ would be able to take).
Hearns was 30+ years old when he fought at 168 pounds for the first time. He still had a couple of good performances left in him such the rematch against Leonard and the fight against reigning LHW champ Virgil Hill but he was not the force that he used to be at 147/154 pounds.
I think Hearns has a major chance against Roy at 160. He was more experienced, he had quick handspeed himself, a vicious body attack and a right hand that could knock anybody out.
The way to beat Hearns was always to rough him up and neutralize his power in close, not letting him fire off his long right hands from a distance. Roy never did that.
Guys are you serious????? How can anybody even vote for Hearns?!?!?
Jones at 168 is faster, stronger, and more agile than SRL at 147, this is not a fight, this will end up being a massacre. Jones by KO easily.
I don't think you can say that.
When you have a guy with a right hand like Hearns and another guy with as many chin problems as Roy has had, it is by no means ridiculous to say that Tommy stops Jones. I think Jones would win at this weight, but a Hearns KO is still there as a real possibility.

Tommy got hurt at 147 by Ray and stopped. No this was not due to dehydration, as he was damm nearr stopped in the 6th roung. Jones is bigger faster, stronger, more reach, more awkward.
Two fo my all time favorites, but its not too fair. Tommy at WW is a true beast and hes no slouch at 168, but Roy at 168 is as close to unbeatable as Ive ever seen.

Plus, he hit harder. Hearns wouldn't try to KO Roy, he'd try to outbox him and avoid getting KO'ed himself.

Tommy's jab would neutralize the speed disadvantage......years ago I would have said Roy......Roy doesnt handle adversity that well IMO......and to beat Tommy you'll have to go through some adversity!!....I love RJ but I got Tommy stoppin' him :luvbed:
i think hearns never conected jones, he is very rapid
