Hypothetically speaking, if boxing overtook football (soccer) in terms of popularity and became the 'international sport' so to speak, what do you think would become of boxing? Would it be a good thing or a bad thing?
The positives I can think of are
-you'd get a hell of a lot more good boxers coming through and there would be a lot more competition in every weightclass.
-Televised fights would be on every day or at least every other day and a lot of it would most likely be free to watch
-A lot more competitions like the super six tourney
-MMA/UFC fans would finally shut up about which sport is better
Some negatives
-Much more commercialised than it already is
-The money goes into the sport the more corrupt it becomes? (moreso than it is now anyway)
Ah bollocks I cant think of anymore at the moment, what are your thoughts?
No negatives imo, other than PPV's probably costin more. But for it to become the most popular sport, PPV would likely have to be fewer and further between. Who knows, but I'd luv to see boxing hit a boom period. I ain't watched any other sports or really anything on TV at all for yrs. Boxing 4 life. :boxing:
Fights would be televised on ABC ,CBS ,FOX and NBC.It would be alot depth in all classes. No more Paper champions,Wladamir Klickscko would finnaly get knocked out , better crowds . It would be like the NFL today
I just wish I had more friends who were into boxing, I end up watching fights on my own most of the time.
Same here, I only have 2 mates into boxing, one of them which Im probably never going to see again since hes moved away for good, and the other one is down in london while im up north.
I don't mind the sport not being that popular as long as I can watch good fights and talk with knowledgeable fans.....none of these ppl who are going to ask when Tyson is fighting DLH.
In a way I prefer it not being as popular, it feels more exclusive being a boxing fan if that makes sense, and it makes it all that bit better when you find someone to talk boxing with. Talking about footy in the pub gets real old real fast.
Boxing will never become the biggest sport in the world because it's not a team sport.
Basically it boils down to 2superstars showcasing talent < 6-8 superstars on each team showcasing talent at a game.
Yeah thats true which is why I said hypothetically speaking
Then the server here wouldn't ever work and if boxing suddenly became the "it" thing you would have all of these bandwagon jumpers who just started watching boxing saying stupid shit....like Floyd or Pac are #1 or 2 ATGs.
this was something I thought of but didnt know how to word properly, basically there would a massive influx of 'very casual' fans. Nothing against casual fans or anything but there would be loads of them.
I think if it was the most popular sport in the world we would see new monsters in the ring. More popularity of a sport means more people trying to be the best in that sport so we would see more guys that seem unbeatable much more often than we do now.
I think..
