Nicaraguan former WBC welterweight boxing champion Ricardo Mayorga will make his MMA debut at Shine Fights, according to Shine Fights promoter Dorian Price (8-3) on the Shine Fights II Internet broadcast Saturday night.
Thirty-five year old Mayorga is 28-7-1 with 22 knockouts in the boxing ring, most recently suffering a twelfth-round knockout to “Sugar” Shane Mosely in September 2008.
Tuesday, Mayorga filed a breach of contract lawsuit against boxing promoter Don King.
Fighters.com has contacted Shine Fights to confirm Mayorga’s transition to MMA and will update the development with details when Shine Fights replies.
He'd probably do well. This is not far from his Bare-Knuckle brawling days in Nicoragua. He never fine-tuned his boxing skills, but he Brawled his *** off. LOL
One thing for sure he won't find any problems getting an opponent in MMA. Those guys are eager to prove there skills vs a boxer especially an established former legit champ! I can see him do well if he picked up some wrestling skills and develop a good sprawl. Liddell did it that way for years before he started to try and end everything in the 1st round.
I think he'll be better at this than boxing. You don't need as many skills in MMA.
hmmmmmmmm.....................................................................
Mayorga has always had his street-fighting reputation but him going into MMA at this stage is crazy.
He might have his stand up moments with some no-names but even as soon as he takes on someone strong or anything he will get crushed.
I wish him nothing but the best but...
They're making a big deal about his opponent. So who knows.
SHINE is a semi-pro promotion that displays American Top Team talent. ATT is no push overs.
Mayorga should fight Margarito in the battle of Shane's kids, I would like to see it.
Cotto and Cintron should fight in the battle of Margarito's step kid's.
He knows he will NEVER have a megafight again in boxing, might as well take his chances at MMA :haha:.
It will not go well but who knows, good luck to him.
He made Kimbo Slice look like an amateur.
Ha, just to clarify, it was Tim Sylvia, not Kimbo. Ray knocked him out with one right hand in 8 seconds. It was pretty funny.
