Why doesn't Manny want to fight Cotto at 147 for the title?

well,not everyon knows all the rules.....i just found that out not too long ago myself and if one did'nt know,you cant really blame him for thinkin it.... The reason why is simple. Manny is in a position to demand certain stipulations in the fight. Cotto is not. Cotto is playing B-side in this fight whether you want to admit it or not. So when that's the case, you have to sacrifice a few things to your opponent. That's just how it is. The logic behind it is that Manny can get a big money fight with just about anyone. Cotto, not so much. He's only really popular in PR and NY. Outside of that, he's still virtually unknown to paying customers.

keep in mind that cotto doesnt like to be weighed in on fight night Boxers are officially not allowed to weight-in again according to NYSAC rules.

Of course he will never be De La Hoya. He's not American. The fact that he's even getting this much notariety and praise in the United States as a fighter who isn't even American speaks volumes. People just love to watch him fight. Period. The reason why Team Pacquiao can play hardball in the negotiations is because they realize that he is the most exciting fighter in the sport, and the fighter most paying customers (not internet boxing message board fans...there is a huge difference) want to see. So knowing this, they realize that they can pretty much pick and choose who, where, and when they want to fight, and get a deal done because of the amount of revenue it will generate.

This is what I believe has ruined the negotiations so far. Pac's people think he is De La Hoya. He is not and will never be, neither will Cotto. He is not nearly as well spoken, intelligent, business savvy, good looking, or appealing as Oscar. Roach acts like Pac is the Golden Boy when in reality Pacman is just a really good fighter. He sells fights with his fighting not with his words or promotional abilities. Neither of these guys should have much leverage over the other. Yes Manny has some, but he already got the weight and the purse split, and that's enough.
