Serious question, no trolling. When I saw the undercard for Pacquaio-Cotto, I was blown away. Then I thought, there is no way that this card would be this good if the Floyd-JMM card wasnt loaded. Now I heard some critics say that Floyd and them are just doing it because the fight cant sell on its owh. Again, this is not a troll thread for me so I wont even argue against that stance. I will just say that regardless of the reason, he is doing it. You might say that its GBP thats doing it but havent they had a million cards? How many of them were loaded? Both Golden Boy and Top Rank are known for having the worst undercards ever and its a big reason why the UFC is so popular over Boxing right now. Floyd is bringing it back with these loaded cards. He's doing what the UFC does. YOu know it was Floyd's idea because the 1st fight that they thought of was Zab vs Hatton. NO one at GBP wouldve thought of a Zab fight.
You guys also know that there is no way that Arum wouldve loaded his undercard if the didnt see them doing it for the JMM-Floyd fight. Arum has had some of the worst "headline" PPV's and he didnt even stack the undercard then so you know he wouldnt stack a undercard when he has a major fight like Pac vs Cotto unless he saw Floyd and Golden Boy do it. This is a big step in saveing boxing. Then after that I thought about something else. Whats the other #1 thing in boxing right now besides the fighters? Its 24/7. You can say what you want about Pac and even Floyd himself but what really made them into mega stars was the 24/7 series which everyone admitted that Floyd started. He came up with the idea. Oscar was a huge star and Floyd had a solid name but no way they break records without 24/7. Pac & Hatton had solid names but no way they wouldve given a 24/7 series to 2 non Americans if Floyd didnt make it so popular. Its basicaly like a movie now. People love the show more then the fight itself. Its like an event now.
The bottom line is that argubaly the 2 biggest things in boxing right now and the 2 biggest things that can save boxing, make it bigger than UFC, and make it an elite sport again is having loaded undercards and the 24/7 series and both of these things are basically being brought about because of Mayweather. Again, this is a serious topic. No matter how much you hate him, you have to give him some credit for this. Again, you cant dare say that it was Golden Boy or Top Rank because they havent done it any other time. Even as Pac is blowing up now, the 1st thing that comes out of everyone's mouth is them thinking about a match with him & Floyd. After Pac killed Hatton and became a mega star, they talked about him on every TV show the next day, and every single show ended by talking about a match with Mayweather. We know that Floyd will "probably" beat JMM and if Pac beats Cotto then he is an even bigger Super Star but still everyone will be talking about him vs Floyd and how everyone wants to see it and how it will break records. Thats what we talk about non stop on these boards and thats what the media is talking about. I actually think that if Pac & Floyd continue to win then its probably a great thing that they didnt fight because its making everything build into a mega fight which would destroy records, espically with the "24/7" series that I bet will be 6 episodes long for that fight, and espically with the "loaded undercard" that I bet it would have. NOt only that but no one in boxing even wanted to be on a undercard but I bet that it will start to change and alot of good fighters will want to be on those undercards for that exposure in the future. Seriously, you have to give Floyd some props for that
First of all I register to this site because I love sports and boxing being my favorite, but I have never seen this much hate for a person in long time thus is 1 of the reasons why I don't reply but I hAve to now. Floyd is a good boxer regardless if u like his ego or not that don't suppose to diminish his talent. Now that they are setting up good undercard fights now that suppose to b the reason for his fight to sale.its incredible for a person to call themself a fight fan but don't respect talent when its there. Come on b real do u really think these professional athletes are scared of each other floyd will fight any top guy in his division. He called out a lot of top guys but the fight didn't go through not because of him because the fighters he choosed made better business situations now he started doing tha same thing later in his career now he's a pu',"+ this and that. But u will give a fighter and his trainer all the props in world for fighting wait drain fighters and say he is building a legacy. I might don't make any more replies for a while but who cares right. But u will see who comes on top as the best pound for pound in the world then u will hear from me again. Stop the Hating
So why does he throw bitchfits when its his fault he doesnt give back to the sport thats given him his lifestyle today. He says he dont fight for the fans. If it werent for the fans he'd still be getting booed in his own hometown of grand rapids michigan
Hey man, by no means am I defending him....I'm just saying, this is a ****ed up sport that has plenty of tragic endings...Floyd has played the game the way he has wanted to, judge him for it or not
as much as i love floyd as a boxer....i dont think he is saving boxing..he actually hurt it really bad with the hatton and de la hoya fought
the de la hoya fight was just wayyyy too calm for the biggest fight in history, and the hatton fight...welll it was full of hugs and kisses... -___- except for maybe round 8 and round 10.....casual fans look for action
they dont see or appreciate the skill of a boxer like floyd, they dont understand boxing enough to like him/his style
No but the UFC has in my mind made the promoters work a little harder to get a good product to the fans. The super six tourney, cotto pac may marq
good stuff Boxing can not be beaten when top fighters go at it. Dana White evens knows that. Drama like no other sport!!!
No, I read the thread title and the answer is no.
Boxing will always be here with or without Floyd. There have been far bigger stars in boxing than Floyd and there always will be.
No floyd aint saving shit. Pacquiao, Cotto,JMM ectectect are!!!!!!!!!
Boxing could do just fine without Floyd!
boxings bigger than just one guy
eXACTLY, ALL THESE POSTS ARE CORRECT AND EXRESS MY SENTIMENTS REGARDING THE SITUATION OF fLOYD AND BOXING
:fing02:
dlt, i see what you mean, and i do agree with many things you posted...floyd isn't bigger than boxing, but it's kind of ironic that for a guy who many people criticize and hate so much have his name mentioned by almost eveyone when it comes to the biggest fights in boxing....that i agree with very much...when floyd retired, many people claimed he would come back, and many posters on here called floyd out for their favorite fighters to fight against....eveytime a big name in boxing won a fight, they talked about floyd fighting that guy---i.e. margarito beating cotto, people wanted him to fight floyd, and the hbo commentators talked about floyd fighting him....when cotto beat jennings...they called for him to fight floyd....when pac stopped oscar, floyd's name was the first name out of people's mouth when talking about the biggest fight in boxing, period...people on here can call floyd all the names in the book, but they are the same people wanting a mayweather/pacqiauo fight---when shane beat margarito, people wanted him to fight a guy who retired and was so called "not needed" in boxing...so all of the bullshit posts and responses i've read on here mean nothing when they are the same ****ers calling for floyd to fight pac......
trust me, people want pac to fight floyd----the same with shane and cotto---i guarantee you that more people want to see pac/mayweather than pac/cotto---
i also agree about the 24/7 series also....floyd made that show big....because of his brute trash talk and flashy lifestyle---his skillset and the way he trains and people love controversy, and floyd is just that....they stay glued to the tv because they want to cuss this man or wish for his demise in the ring....for whatever reason, floyd is the name at the end of the day---because he is still undefeated and more....
so, why i do believe no boxer is bigger than boxing, floyd included, and he will never be---boxing does need him, whether people want to believe it or not, because of all of the intangibles that come with him....he is very much hated---that we know---he is brash, cocky, can be an asshole, ect...but he keeps people talking....there is no bigger fight in boxing today than pac and floyd.....if cotto beats pac, i guarantee you, there will be no bigger fight in boxing than cotto and floyd.....**** the undercard---all roads lead to floyd, agree to disagree all you want....
Floyd had his chance to say that he did, but he retired on top dancing with the stars ,wwe and the knockout of hatton he was set up to replace dela hoya but retired.
so he worked his way to the top and retired once he reached it don't know why.

Floyd aint bigger than Boxing, Boxing isn't that hurt without him and would do okay without him... Boxing doesn't need Mayweather at all, but obviously having Floyd here is a good thing... can't do any harm he is a very talented and skilled fighter, so him being here is still a good thing nonetheless... but Floyd isn't bigger than Boxing and Boxing isn't in desperate need to be saved at all.
Floyd has never had a real impact on the sport. If anything, he has probably turned some people off of boxing. His biggest impact has been PPV-wise, and that was because of the biggest PPV draw ever in Oscar, and Hatton.

No he just saw $$$ signs and unretired.
Floyd is the exact kind of character that is destroying boxing.
He is a great fighter dont get me wrong, but his money first mentality absolutely kills boxing. When he is getting interviewed and the person asks him about a fighter he only ever talks about how much money that guy generates and how much money floyd gets on a regular payday.
The guy really needs to get knocked out, not cause i hate him just to deflate his ego.
No....honestly as a PBF fan, it obvious that all he cares about is his finances and he does not fight for his fan....he's even stated this over and over again...I don't blame him though, it's a vicious sport that will chew you out and spit you out......
So why does he throw bitchfits when its his fault he doesnt give back to the sport thats given him his lifestyle today. He says he dont fight for the fans. If it werent for the fans he'd still be getting booed in his own hometown of grand rapids michigan

The only way PBF has a hand in helping boxing is if he makes PBF/Pac happen! His cards are stacked because PBF/JMM isn't enough to sell tickets!
Speaking of Zab v Hatton...If Hatton wins will that make Pac's KO even more special?
