In all these trilogies, there's been at least 1 fight that wasn't up to par with the others. The others might have had better fights, but as a whole, Bowe-Holyfield is the most complete.
ali vs frazier was great but not the best. barrera vs morales all 3 were focking battles. but i voted for holyfield vs bowe just because those 2 really put some leather into each other. :boxing:
RIP Gatti,
I had to go Barrera/Morales with a close second to Ali/Frazier.
With both you have HOF guys in their prime who HATED each other. The skills and versatility and heart shown by the little guys for all three fights is unmatched with any other trilogy I have seen. Ali Frazier had it's weak fight, while there wasn't really a round off in the entire trilogy.
Behind here I have Zale and Graz, but I feel their offense and defense were just too limited. When I watch their fights, it's a hookfest with some uppercuts mixed in.
Izzy/Rafa=amazing but I feel that Izzy has his number so I don't think the results are as unpredictible (same as Gatti/Ward).
Bowe vs Holyfield and Barrera vs Morales were awesome.
I heard but haven't seen Zale vs Graziano as being the greatest.
I'm just gonna say Gatti vs Ward.
Wanted to pick Ali-Frazier, but their second fight absolutely stunk. Izzy-Rafa was as good as any.
Why no mention for the classic Mundine-Soliman fights? :lol1:
Barrera vs Morales for me, all 3 were great fights, Gatti vs Ward is a really close second in terms of Action, as for Vasquez vs Marquez i think there were some factors that kept it from being the best, (fewer rounds, etc)
Vaz/Marq from an action stand point cant be argued with.
I voted Barrera/Morales for action + 2 future HOF's & top 50 ATGs with 36 rounds.
Ali/Frazier just the build up & hype surrounding it, though a lot of people on this board werent around then.
Bowe/Holy another really good one, not as much leather thrown at the lower weights, less speed makes for less action than the 1st 2 mentioned.
Gatti/Ward for obvious reasons, but these 2 being far from A fighters brings it down a notch or 2 in my book.
Gatti - Ward considering all 3 fights were close and explosive..
The second wasn't close at all, and the third wasn't particularly close, but Gatti screwed his hand which made some of it a bit closer.
I don't know. All of them are great and many of them are better for different reasons. Obviously Ali/Frazier was hugely significant and the first and third fights were genuinely great. Barrera/Morales fights were all brilliant and if they were of the same size as Ali/Frazier it would probably win hands down.
Izzy/Rafa were just incredible fights. Amazing action.
As Silencers pointed out, there are a couple of really great ones missing. Chacon had his stunning trilogy, and more, with Limon which may have the greatest ever single fight and Andries/Harding was just as good as any on this list, as their wars were as hard, brutal and savage as any listed with amazing back and forth action that lasted for three straight fights without a single dull round.
While it pretty much meant nothing and was just a brawl, Gatti- Ward is pretty much the pinnacle of a boxing trilogy. It was a movie basically.
Frazier vs. Ali was also outright incredible and far more important to the sport, but it just wasnt as incredible as Gatti Ward.
