i wouldn't call singsurat a nobody. he was a top 10 fighter at 112 for some time.
torrecampo was a nobody though.
To be honest, torrecampo was the only guy on my mind when i said that. But like i said, that knockout was attributed to the fact that he clearly could no longer compete at that weight.
Pac won a belt at 112 and 122. You need to bump your head first. Whether he lost 10-15 years ago, he was a champ at that weight.
And? There a ton of champs in the lower weights. Its a good accomplishment, but its not incredible if you consider the fact that he wasnt a full grown man. This is why i say for pac, what he did at 126-140 is what was incredible because the competition matched the accomplishment, and he was a full grown man. Do you know how many americans would accomplish the same if we were allowed to turn pro at 15? A guy like PBF who started off at i think 106 would have the same accomplishment if it were allowed.
Mike Tyson won his first heavyweight championship aged 20 y/o.......Pacquiao won his Lineal Flyweight at 19 /yo.....
are you going to dispute Tyson's championship belt because he barely got out from his teens????????
Your comparison doesnt work because Tyson wasnt having trouble making heavyweight, not did he get knocked out from having to cut weight and show up dehydrated. What tyson did was incredible because he was already "Ready" by the time he was about 17 or 18 years old. Different bodies function differently through weight, winning a piece of the heavyweight title at 20 is incredible because its damn near impossible to do.
There will be other flyweights/strawweights/bantamweights etc who will do the same in their teenage years, since those guys tend to by at their best between 18-25. Heavyweights arent a good comparison.
Again. If Pacs accomplishments at the LOW weights are so increible, then how do you feel about him getting knocked out by virtual nobodies on the way up? I personally dont care, but i DO care when you choose to throw out how incredible it was, when in fact he got KTFO by fighters whos names are nowhere to be found these days or really even then.
Not really, when you consider the fact that he wasnt a full grown adult yet, you think half the olympians the last 30 years coming out of the united states couldnt come close if they were allowed to turn pro? What matters to me, is pacs career from 126 to now. If were going to gas up what he did at 106, as a teenager, then we need to start factoring his knockout losses at that weight also.
Oh your excuse is that he was just a teenager? Exactly.

It's unheard of.
It's like comparing two shoe collections, where both guys have a lot, but one guy bought them all from Payless for like 25$, while the other paid top dollar.
Now, now. I don't think we should be comparing Manny Pac's accomplishments to a payless shoe collection.

what you just said is common knowledge in here.....what i meant is that 12 lbs is not really much.....the accomp is great....btw,106 to 147 is unbelievable..

Only a handful of fighters in history have won titles at 135 and 147. Duran and Whitaker come to mind. It's a "big deal".
DLH too, a guy you don't like lol.
..135 to 147....no big deal!
Ross did it in under a year and beat top 50 ATG's such as Tony Canzoneri and Jimmy McLarnin while doing it. Fairly impressive I'd say.
He also beat some lesser known names such as Billy Petrolle, Sammy Fuller and Frankie Klick during that year.
Just Curious.
I'll admit I don't know too much info from those times compared to the current and 2 previous decades.
Nah Henry Armstrong went to Weltwerweight and fought at the limit. Then went back and defended a title at Featherweight.
I wish the champions didn't basically say to hell with the titles at 130 and 140 right before Armstrong hit his peak.
Maybe Armstrong could've held the titles at 126 THROUGH 147.
And then the fight with Garcia should've been for 15 and for the NYSAC middleweight title, not just the California title.
I would pretty much consider him a 130 and 140 title holder since he beat all the champions who held belts in those weight classes, for example Barney Ross, Benny Bass, Frankie Klick.
Later on in Armstrong's career he knocked out Tippy Larkin at 140 lbs. A few years later Larkin became recognized as the world jr. welterweight champion.
Armstrong would have surely beaten Garcia if the fight had gone 15 rounds. He would have then held a version of the middleweight title but I don't like his chances against the other middleweights of his era. I wonder how a Tony Zale vs Henry Armstrong middleweight title unification would have gone, probably not very well for the 140 lb Armstrong...
Of course but you asked whether there was anyone who came close to that accomplishment other than Pacquiao and Armstrong. Ross did it before either of them, although the 140 lb title didn't mean as much as it does today.
Oh that. my apologies. I should have said who's come as close since then.

So would have Pacquiao had he not vacated his belts. Different era remember.

Barney Ross, whom Armstrong beat, held the lightweight, light welterweight and welterweight titles at the same time.

they didn't cut weight as much back in the days.
it's not like it is today.
back in the days people came into the ring under their weight division limit.
ceferino garcia who henry armstrong challenged for the middleweight title for instance weighed in around 155 for his middleweight fights and probably similar in size to miguel cotto.
barney ross who armstrong beat for the welterweight title was no bigger than manny pacquiao.
different era.
Then again Armstrong was also smaller than the average featherweight of today.
He did carry the extra weight well though, as Pacquiao does, and later on was very solid at 140 lbs.
Can someone on this thread please name me anything in the history of boxing that's come as close to Armstrong's 3peat than Pacquiao winning 130, 135, and 140lb belts in a span of 14 months???
