Is that whats going on?, in MMA if you tap out your'e given up right?, its like youre saying "this guy has me iam beat"...In boxing if youre hurt like Ortiz was and you the boxer says "thats it, no more" then youre a bitch right?....I mean when youre beat or hurt then shoudnt that be it? whats the point of continuing and risking your career and more importantly your life just to impress a crowd and audience of people that have never been in a fight their whole life.
OK short answer, Yes its ok to tap in MMA, and if you quit like Ortiz did in boxer, you are a bitch... I explain more if i need to, but common sense dictates i don't need to
Tap outs happen in mma while in the fighter is being beat or in a submission. They dont get up recieve a 8 count, then take a few seconds and say ok I tap out. Ortiz was very responsive, responsive enough to take a few seconds walk around and decide to continue. Cant compare that to a tap out.
I don't know everyone has an opinion on this. Quitting or not I hope he continue to fight. IF you feel you don't have to continue the fight to amuse thousands of people then why are you doing a sport where having fans it's a must to make money? But, I respect any decision cuz he didn't quit in the second round or anything..

I was going to start a similar thread but I just did not know how to go about it so I scrapped my thread like many other threads I think about starting and then never pull the trigger but I agree, you can tap before your arm is broken but in boxing you can not just quit if you feel you are going to get knocked the pluck out?, because that is what was going to happen to Ortiz and he knew it, he did the right thing. Most fighters don't even have the common sense to take a knee when they are getting pummeled.
it is what it is, victor is just not that kind of throw-back, leave it all in the ring kind of fighter we all expected him to be. Boxing glorifies the tough-sons of bitches that is cotto, vasquez and pac, and Ortiz is just doesn't belong with the elite. Simple as that.
That's the difference between boxing and MMA. I think there's a difference between getting knocked out and getting your arm ripped off or being choked to death while you still have your senses. I don't see the mma cats tapping because they got hit too hard.

There are dozens of locks that can literally end someones career. Taps are a part of MMA to preserve the saftey of the fighters (much like padded gloves in boxing) so everyone can enjoy future fights. Imagine if MMA fighters were able to shatter arms, legs, joints, necks without hesitation. Like it or not, MMA has more risks and tapping out is as more of a safety net.
tapping aint quitting. dude had time to recover but he walked off from the ref on some "take me out the game coach" type shit. his eye wasnt bleeding enough to stop the fight. he just str8 up quit. taking a knee is more on the level of tapping.

Big difference getting your arm broken or ankle bruk off comparing to a Knockout
actually on saturday two guys in the same card lost by submission due to strikes, i will admit i haven't seen it happen before then but still. I do agree with you in general though.Yeah I've seen it happen before by the ref but I've never seen a fighter tap because he was being punched in the face.
either way its a matter of health right? If brock has you in a armbar youre tapping because you dont want your arm broken, in boxing you dont continue because you dont wanna end up in a coma after the fight.
Fair enough its a matter of health and a matter of opinon, and a matter of healthy opinion.....

You cant expect anyone to do what Corrales did, And where is Katsidis now?
Katsidis is still looking pretty decent, he only lost 2 fights in his career and won his last fight. I know Katsidis would have no problems moving up to fight Ortiz at 140. Katsidis knows he'll have to work hard to earn the top fights again and if that means going through Ortiz he'd do it.

in MMA you can't fight anymore if someone chokes you and you can't breath anymore. basically you're dead.
Also, an mma fight could continue with one combatant suffering a a broken arm or leg from a hold/lock/etc... but what's the point? the combatant without the injury/disability has too much of an advantage and the fight should be stopped.
so in essense, you have no case.
You cant expect anyone to do what Corrales did, And where is Katsidis now?Still fighting, from what I can remember he just won a fight not too long ago.
Corrales was hurt against Castillo, didn't stop him from turning the tides.Ortiz is not a warrior. Katsidis was serious hurt by Casamayor and didn't quit. Katsidis was taking a one sided beatdown by diaz, and he still didn't quit.

It can be a bit different, like if, I don't know, Brock Lesnar has you in an arm bar and your arm is seconds away from snapping in two, you are forgiven for tapping. But as much of a beating Wlad gave Chagaev the other night i'll never condone his giving up, as a 'Champion' of the world you never give up!!!!

he said in the post fight his legs were gone and getting up quick is overated, veteran boxers know not to get up quick they stay down till the 8 count and re coup their legs. Victor was def hurt in this fight, Maidana is a power puncher and victor took alot of shots in the dome. Plus look at his face, he was cut and his eye was badly swollen. Hes 22, it doesnt make sence to continue.

Victor got up from the knockdown incredibly quick for a so called seriously hurt fighter. If he was so hurt, he'd fall back down on his ass Zab Judah style.
