My take on Pacquiao vs. Cotto

last saturday's Cotto would knock Manny down in the first with a jab. speed kills but so does timing. im happy for both fighters. Cotto deserves a big payday, but i still don't like catchweights. And Cotto can box too, he outboxed Mosley. He'll be using his left jab a lot and his right hand.

You have to take into account that Cotto is bigger than Pacquiao and hits harder than Pacquiao, Cotto went toe to toe with a big welterweight and won. If Cotto wasn't cut he would of beaten Clottey more convincingly. I predict Cotto will win by 9th round knockout, I think Cotto will box Pacquiao and bait Pacquiao to slug it out with him. You also have to take into account that Cotto does very well when he doesn't have to back up. He won't back up against Pacquiao.

It doesn;t matter how many elite fighters you fight. When you have shitty stamina, you have shitty stamina. Margarito is not all that elite and his stamina is pretty good. Mosley can be my grandfather but his stamina is like a 25 year old, look who was chasing who in the Cotto-Mosley fight. They were 10 years apart, but it looked like Cotto had 10 years on Mosley in the latter rounds. Taylor is my current fave fighter, but i admit he has shitty stamina and he can't do anything about it. Cotto is only 28 and has been gassing out since his 140 days, the excuse was that he was weight drained..but what is the excuse on WW? It's natural, fighters have it and others don't. No matter the age or the wars you have been in. Last example, Winky is old as hell and he looked like he was just overwhelmed by Williams but the stamina was there to go 15 rounds. How many elites has Winky fought? Prime Vargas was a war, Mosley twice, the second one was a war. Quartey, Taylor, Hopkins, Williams. But has more stamina than 28 year old Cotto. When did Cotto gas at 140? Besides Lovemore Ndou? Everyone said weight draining caused his ability to take a punch to be worse. Cotto was fighting Zab Judah for 11 rounds and was still going in the 11th like it was the first. Like I said, people who apply pressure on him nonstop and don't yield(like Ndou at 140 too) cause him to tire. Pacquiao won't do that to Cotto.

IMO Roach will play a big part in this fight. He will have something up his sleeve or he wouldn't be agreeing to the fight. I got Pacquiao by late stoppage or UD. However, it will be close in the early rounds and if Cotto can land anything big at all then Pac could be in trouble. Should be a great fight but I got Pac as the slight favourite.

In every Pacquiao fight, he's got different strategies. This time for sure that uppercut is gonna play a big role on this fight. I don't underestimate Cotto but I think Pac's got the edge.

Its a tough call. I'm leaning towards Pacquiao right now, but we cannot forget that Cotto is the real deal. I also believe that bigger guys have a good shot at beating Cotto and tiring him out, but he manages to win fights based on how patient and controlled he can be in the ring. I don't think Pacquiao will be the aggressor in the fight. He'll try to ride off Cotto's momentum and try to counter him but also set that up with combinations. The speed factor is definitely on Pac's side. Now as far as who's got the harder pop? The obvious answer should be Cotto, but is it? Pacquiao has enough power to hurt Cotto, I have no doubt about that. The question really lies with Pacquiao, can he take shots from a top prime Welterweight? That's what we have to find out. It's a really tough fight to call being I've been a fan of Cotto's since '04 and am a big fan aswell of Pacquiao's, but I think Pacquiao may have the edge...but either way its a winnable fight for both and both are capable. Let's see what happens!!!

Cotto is finally facing someone who doesn't throw/ or have a good uppercut. Don't know if people have noticed this, but Zab Judah, SSM, Margarito and Clottey were getting to Cotto because of the uppercut. I've already said, it all depends on which Cotto shows up, last Saturday's Cotto would get handley beaten by Pacquiao. If the Cotto that faced SSM or Margarito shows up, this fight can be very competitive. I will say this, I don't see Cotto getting to Pacquiao's body and if he tries, he'll get hit with bombs upstairs. The way to keep Pacquiao off you/ or slowly break him down is by jabbing to the body (Which Cotto doesn't do). That or pin Pacquiao into the ropes which isn't gonna be easy to do. Cotto should approach Pacquiao the same way Mayweather did Zab, go in there with a high guard and pick his shots wisely. Cotto better get his jab going early and try to take him out as soon as possible, Pacquiao only gets better as the fight goes on but this is how I see it... I'm gonna say this, I'm not rooting for either but I do believe Pacquiao is gonna win, I'm going with Pacquiao by 9th or 10th round stoppage. Don't see Cotto breaking him down or taking him out early, I see Pacquiao beating the crap out of a very tired Cotto in the 9th or 10th round. I'm willing to bet also, so hit me up if your interested. i unno man. cotto hit's really hard and he's beaten down heavier opponents before.

ah tu sabe mi apodo lol. Yea I don't see Pacquiao being able to apply pressure like Margarito/Clottey and tiring Cotto out. Cotto deffinately is capable of winning this fight. lol, tengo que ir con Cotto. Mucho's cono's ya no le tienen fe por su ultima pelea pero qualquier hombre contra clottey no se mira en su mejor. Pac can try to apply pressure, but he has to realize that he ain't a natural WW or has the same size to that of Margarito, Clottey or Mosley. So He's going to have to be extra careful to not get caught clean with Cotto's left hooks, jabs or hard right hands.

Great call on the uppercut, it always pisses me off that he gets him with them. I think steward will fix the problem if he works with him. Everytime cotto get's in trouble steward points in out in his fights before they even happen. Also cotto could of countered clottey all night but didn't just like steward said

Gato, I have Cotto winning in this fight. I believe his ring generalship will be the key. Cotto will or can cut off Pacquiao and pin him against the ropes where Pac has never been good at. I see a late TKO by Cotto or SD. I have many other factors that slide Cotto winning, but I'm going to keep it at that right now. Try fighting 12 hard rounds against the elite fighters of the world. If you can do so than you can call it shitty stamina. Cotto gets tired when his opponents put nonstop pressure on him and don't yield. Cotto didn't tire against guys like Judah, Malignaggi, Urkal, Bazan, who all took him to the late rounds. But larger fighters who keep pressuring him like Mosley, Margarito, and Clottey cause him to tire. Pacquiao doesn't fit into that group of people in my opinion. Cotto won't tire against Pacquiao. Not saying he beats Pacquiao, it will be a great fight I'm still not too sure who will win. But I don't believe stamina will be an issue for Cotto. Gato, I have Cotto winning in this fight.
