I had it 7-5 Roy...really strange--the fight was in Tarver's hands and he let it slip away. Jones was done that night; was forced to use his experience, guile and will to eek it out. Very clever, if not gutty, performance from him.
I had Roy up by one point if i remeber correctly. Roy scored consistently throughout the fight, standing in the middle of the ring hitting Tarver with straight left followed by right hook. Tarver only hit Jones with combos when he was on the ropes. Also Roy managed to take the last round even thought he was dead tired. Drained Roy outpointed Tarver.
It was a close fight, could have gone either way. I ony watched that fight live and never again, but I will watch it again. Roy digging deep even though he had nothing left while Tarver was more or less ok showed me that Roy has more balls than Tarver.
Tarver had Roys number, I do believe he beat Roy in the first fight, and obviously he beat him in the other two fights.
Tarver had Roys number?
You think Tarver beats Roy at any age?
The fact that Tarver ONLY scored points when Roy was tired and went against the ropes and put his hands up... in the middle of the ring, he was thoroughly outboxed when roy had the energy level to do it.
Pre dropping down from heavyweight, ROy never got tired.
And it wasnt because of Tarvers "relentless" pressuring skills either.
On Tarver's best and RJ's worst simultaneous night, Tarver couldn't get the job done. From the mid point on RJ was dead tired, and Tarver refused to step it up. He won the rds he won clearly by throwin combos when RJH was against the ropes, but that's all. Ledeman had it spot on, 1-2, 8, and 10 for Tarver. RJ won that fukkin fight. Period.
I had it a draw although Tarver was dominating the rounds he was winning. I don't see how it can be scored more than 7-5 for Jones, no way Tarver didn't win at least 5 rounds.
It was a very close fight.... extremely close.
I felt Roy DID do enough to win, by rallying when he needed too.
But the damn fight was close as hell.
Roy had nothing by rounds 4-5.
