Petitions are silly sometimes.(This one can be construed as silly to some) Sometimes they are great. They get our favorite politicians on the ballot. (Now does anybody really have a favorite politician)They also get important issues to the forefront. This is not a serious issue, or anything truly important in the grand schemes of society. But I am a big fan of boxing history. Heck I still have Ring Magazines from when I was a kid,(I am pretty young, one of those endangered 30 year old boxing fans) sitting dusty in my closet. I will take one out every now and then and read about great fighters from a past.
I always wondered to myself. What would it have been like to see Henry Armstrong fight Barney Ross for Welterweight crown in the 1930’s. Now I don’t have to think about what was, I can now think about what could be.
After an overwhelming response from my blog yesterday.

I am now interested in knowing if anybody else is with me. I know there are other great matchups out there. But none present the history Pacquiao could get by fighting Mosley for the Welterweight Championship. It would be unbelieveable if Pacquiao could win this 7th title in his 7th weight class. It would no doubt cement him as one of the to 10 fighters of all time. (He is already an all time great)
Also if you read my story yesterday you know, stylistically the Pacquiao-Mosley match-up would be special. Sign on if you want. I know it may seem corny and stupid to some. But how else can you tell promoters and managers you want to see a big fight. Link below.

The Goal is 1,000 signatures. So forward it on to fight fans. If we reach it I will deliever this to Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions.
my vote jst took it from 50/50 to 23 for mosley to 22 cotto.....i dunno who would be harder, i think they would be just as hard in their own ways for pac....but as mosley is the champion i think pac should go for him, aswel as havin better stamina then he should cos of age....either fight id be happy to see tho!
Would be a good fight but I don't think it should happen, Mosley will be 155+ on fight night at 147 and Pacquiao will be at a huge disadvantage... at a catch weight Mosley would most likely will be dehydrated and weight drained at a huge disadvantage... either way it isn't fair on either fighter.
I hope a Mayweather fight comes off if he beats JMM convincingly and as long as he doesn't seem rusty, if so he might need another tune-up.
Well im not going to argue the catchweight because i agree it would have to be at 147 or no dice.
But linear champ is defined as the man who beat the man who beat the man who beat the man.
Ali was regarded as THE heavyweight champion after beating Foreman despite having a loss to Frazier. And the rematch didnt come until later.
Cotto beat Mosley but lost to Margarito. Mosley destroys Margarito. I believe your perspective stems from the plaster issue with Cotto vs Margarito but as far as i'm concerned....right now Mosley is THE welterweight champ.
You are going to be hard pressed to find people unanimously crowning mosley the best welter in the world unless its to make a pac matchup potentially more legitimate. hes not the best welter in the world undisputedly, hes only one of the best. mosley is not the undisputed welterweight champ and after beating margarito, was never crowned so, even by opinion, only until this thread was made did this notion even start. you can think what you want.
Also, citing the ali comparison sort of doesnt work, since thats the equivelant of mosley fighting margarito, then berto, losing to paul williams then beating cotto. not beating collazo, losing to cotto, knocking out mayorga and knocking out margarito. only margaritos name is apart of the elite within the division.
what kind of counter argument is that? if anything, it shows how nessecary rematches are to deciding who is who. mosley is not the unidisputed best welter and if pac were to beat him, especially at a catch weight, neither is he.The irony is that shane inherited the lineal title direct from cotto and mosley is no undisputed welterweight champ until he cleans the division by beating cotto, collazo, williams and *cough* mayweather *cough*.

Between the two, I think cotto has the better chance because both of them are under top rank although we have to consider the fact that cotto ain't fighting anyone below 145 lbs.
Why not???
Frazier beats Ali
Foreman beats Frazier
Ali beats Foreman.
Who's the real heavyweight champ??

follow the bouncin' belt.......Floyd retires as the linear champ at 147.....at the time Cotto was the WBA champ aka #1 contender.......with Floyd no longer in the game.......Cotto became in the eyes of MOST as the legitimate 147 king........Margarito took that title and Shane snatched it from him.......so where's the confusion?!?.......Shane Mosley is the linear champ at 147 and Clottey/Cotto winner would be the #1 contender.....I just wish it was just one belt so that all the over-political BS talk about who lost to who and he holds a win over him mess would be irrelivent.....Margarito beat Cotto and NOONE would deny he was the REAL champ at 147..........well Shane did a job on Margarito so thats simple math to me :boxing:
Honestly, ring champion or not, i dont think mosley is the clear undisputed welterweight when cotto holds a win over him. I dont care who says what, dude is not the linear champion, if pac fought him and won, there is no way in hell id sit there and say pac is linear champ at welter.

I gotta agree, mosley is not the lineal champ until the winner of cotto/clottey loses to mosley.
"... In respect to history this is the biggest fight this decade. It is not Joe Frazier-Muhammad Ali, nothing is nowadays. But it is something special. The reason why is Shane Mosley is the current welterweight champion. And if Manny were to win this match-up, he would have won his 5th lineal title, and he and his supporters could argue he is one of the 10 greatest fighters of all time.
I love Ring Magazine, they have the best writers in the business. But their reasoning behind not recoginzing Mosley as the Welterweight champion makes little sense. Shane defeated Antonio Margarito, which was a 1 vs 3 match-up. But Mosley was not crowned the champion. Yet in 2002, when Vernon Forrest beat Mosley in a 1 vs 3 match-up, Forrest was crowned the champion. (Andrew Lewis was the number 2 contender at the time) No consistency from the bible of boxing. Many other observers, including Cyberboxingzone.com recognize Mosley as the lineal title holder... "

Note that not all lineal champions are crowned by Ring Magazine.

Shane for sure.......make it happen!!!.......at 147 for the REAL WW crown! :lol1:.......Roach would NEVER allow that!
haha...true... imagine Pac 148lbs on fight time while Shane weighs around 154-160lbs.
Bradley is unavailable because him and Nate are fighting in August. (99.9% done)
Nice. Rooting for Nate but Bradley might take this. :boxing:
War Nate!
Ok, ok. Then I chose Mosley because of a 7th title and 5th lineal title, America will watch, PPV. And African-American racists will have nothing more to complain about. Only thing is, Shane being shot, past prime, but yet still P4P #5 and former P4P #1. Other fighters will fear Pacquiao if he beats Shane. His stock will rise, PBF will get 35-65 when the fight is through.
Since when have African Americans complianed about Pacquiao.
Shane isnt the lineal champ by any means. that doesnt make any sense.
