I think he's making a mistake in the way he's moving up to 144... he's talking about adding muscle so he can match Floyd for strength, but doing so will be effecting his speed, and possibly stamina. I would've thought he'd follow what Pac did more-so, coming in lighter to maximise the factors that are in his favour...
What do you think? Should he stay light for speed, or bulk up for power and strength?

I think that he should level his fighting weight where he feels comfortable. Right now, his fighting weight is around 145 lbs. based on his last fight. More muscles and fat means more stamina, I think, since he doesn`t need to lose weight much.
I will be very interested to see Marquez' fight strategy. I would love to see him make Mayweather come to him and utilize his counterpunching and make Floyd play the unfamiliar role of aggressor. In fact with all this talk in the media Floyd should be awfully motivated to take Marquez out and try to look spectacular, I have to admit from a selfish standpoint I would like to see Mayweather squeek out a voctory to force him to face Pac , sugar shane or Cotto but it would be great if Marquez could put him on queer street and knock him on his ass.
I don't buy this notion that Mayweather is used to the 147 lb division. If he is so accustomed to it then why don't he fight someone his own size. Guys like Gatti, Mitchell, Judah, and Baldomir don't get you accustomed to anything. When Mayweather came back I don't doubt for one second that he wanted an easier opponent than JMM. This is a case of where the cherry picker don't want to fight a tough challenge, but HBO is forcing him to do it.
To be fair, this is a win win situation for JMM...
If he wins, he is practically hailed for a great victory... and if he loses, nobody will pin it against him or anything because most people don't expect him to win.
Plus he is earning a shit load of money in this fight...

marquez is smart enough to understand how to utilize his strength rather then speed/how to make up for it. speed is a great tool against floyd, but he knows he's got a better chance with some power then none against floyd.
i don't think it'll effect his speed as drastically as people are thinking, but we'll see. i hope we get some sparring sessions or something. will there be a 24/7?
Marquez is more powerful than you think and added with the cleanness of his shots he can do damage
And they know he'll be the one pushing the action and going forward so maybe they are gambling that power (I'm predicting he'll be fully utilising that beautiful one-two to each side of the ribs) is more important than speed in this one
JMMs a proud guy, I bet he'd rather win and get 2 mill then to lose and get 4 mill. I honestly think he's fighting for pride, not money.
You can think that if you want but he's doing it for the money. The other stuff is just icing on the cake. I will say that I think he see's an oppurtunity and he's trying to jump at it. He gets paid by far the most he's ever been paid, he gets to fight a guy who is the #1 guy in the game and is bigger but not nearly as big as the media makes it out to be, so if he loses then it wont look bad on him at all, and the opponent is coming off a nearly 2 year retirment. Everyone keeps saying that this is a lose/lose situation but I think he's looking at it as a win/win. I think his whole camp feels this way. Big money to fight a guy who's been off for nearly 2 years, he can beat the top guy, and wont be ripped if he loses. Like Hatton & Pacquaio, neither of them would move up to fight Cotto, Mosley, Clottey and so on but they will do it against Floyd because they dont think he's a real WW
Well to be honest i think the fact that Floyd hasnt been in the ring for two years is an even bigger factor, especially going up against JMM. Trust me he will be ready and prepared. there hasnt been a fight in JMM career that hasnt been ill prepared.
True.
JMM is a smart guy, I'm sure he would realise that bulking up too much would harm him, but still... some things I've read have worried me.
I would love to see the people at HBO show Marquez's "diet" for 24/7. What's he gonna do after training, eat some tacos and cheeseburgers to get to 144?
in his eyes, making 4+ mill is no mistake.

it's one of those damned if you damned if you dont scenario's isn't it?
On one hand, if he's stronger but loses speed he might not be able to catch floyd flush. On the other hand if he's fast and has no power it wont really matter if he gets him flush.
My guess is adding muscle is the right thing to do. I think the only way Marquez could possible beat mayweather is to be too physical for him, rough him up. Theres no way he could equal floyd's speed anyway.
I suppose.
However, I always viewed JMMs best chances here as being if Floyds timing is slightly off, he could catch him, and bag some rounds, and maybe pull out a close Decision. I don't think planning to hurt him, or be stronger will work... May is used to these weights, JMM ain't.
If what I've read is trus (Regarding him bulking up), I think he's actually deminishing his chances a bit tbh.
Takin a WW fight against Mr boat buyer period is a huge mistake, no matter how he goes about buildin himself up, but JMM don't give a fukk. The man is a fukkin beast. War Dinamita! :boxing:

Comparing him & Pac are apples & oranges. Pac weighed in lighter but he still put on 10 pounds after the weigh-in so its not like he was a lighter guy in the ring. He weighed as much as anyone else at 140. JMM will probably weigh-in at 142 and be 146 in the ring while Floyd is 148 or 9 in the ring
