bernard hopkins vs chad dawson

Not going to happen imo. Hopkins is probably going to retire. Personally feel the only way Hopkins is going to have one last bout, it's going to be for a payday. Which is why Dawson is not an option. Personally feel Hopkins would win a UD anyway

Dawson by UD, possibly another controversial one. Dawson aint so great down the final stretch, luckily for him nor is hopkins. Hopkins will be spending too much time on defence in this fight blocking dawsons combos, and even if they dont land, it doesnt matter, because boxing these days is about whoever throws the most punches. The part of your post of where you mention the fact that Hopkins doesn't finish good going down the stretch I'm a little unsure about that. Other than the Calzaghe fight I don't think I've saw a Hopkins fight of where he didn't look like a million bucks in the championship rounds. That was his strategy against Taylor to preserve energy toward the end. Of course he did the opposite in the fight with Joe and that didn't work out for him either so it works both ways I guess. But I don't see any problems with Dawson that Hopkins would have really because the guy is not aggressive at all, and he is easy to hit. You'd think with the kind of handspeed and decent footwork that Dawson has that he'd try to mix defense with it, but he doesn't. He tries to fight like Winky Wright sometimes and it makes it easy to hit him with an uppercut. I saw him get hit with a lot of those in the Tarver fight.

I've never taken bets on this site but the one upset I'd be willing to do that for is Dawson over Hops.

Just because Hopkins said that he doesn't wanna fight Dawson doesn't mean that he wouldn't win this fight if it became a reality. I don't think Hopkins is wary of Chad at all, it's just the fact that Dawson doesn't go out of his way to try to put a stamp on his victories like a real fighter should do. I thought he lost rounds 9-12 in the Johnson fight and didn't win one round after he got knocked down by Tomasz Adamek. Dawson's lack of power and lack of killer instict is the reason why HBO made a bad investment in him big time. And the lack of those two things are gonna cost him big time when he gets in the ring with someone with A-level ability. Hopkins wouldn't even get credit for the victory afterwards guaranteed.

I honestly think that the Jermaine Taylor that fought Hopkins is the best Taylor you'll ever see. I just think he lost his confidence after that fight and didn't fight up to par ever again. One thing like I mentioned earlier in this thread is that Dawson would show too much respect for Hopkins and B-Hop would exploit it big time. Dawson doesn't even show half the aggressiveness that Taylor or Calzaghe showed when they fought Hopkins. That athletic ability aint even gonna be a factor.

B-Hop is my dude and I like Chad a bit and I dont wanna see B-Hop ruin the dude......some cats dont see it.......the hand speed thing got cats gassed up......you me and quite a few others KNOWS Chad is a deadman walkin' when you put him in there with CERTAIN fighters.......Hopkins is one of those certan fighters!! BHop is 44 years old, he would have to be at his prime to beat Dawson. BHop is semi-retired to say that he can beat any LHW or SMW is ludicrous, let alone Dawson. Dawson has problem with pressure fighters with skills, Hopkins at his age is NOT a pressure fighter, he's a counter-puncher, Dawson eats counter-punchers alive (Eric Harding, Antonio Tarver). I think since his close win against Johnson, Dawson can handle any fighter, whether be a puncher, slugger, boxer, etc. Dawson has learned from his mistakes.

I'v always said that dawson would beat hopkins simply because he is too athletic, quick and busy for hopkins. hopkins is now fighting guys who he can beat (what else is new?) to try and make the most money nothing more, thats why hes targetting people like froch, pavlik etc. he knows dawson will beat him and thats why hes gone on record and said that he will never face 'bad' chad. if hopkins thought he could beat him he would already have negotiated the fight with dawson. thats another reason why the fight won't be made because hopkins is an a$$ when it comes to negotiating and vastly overstates his resume and accomplishments. he can hardly attract a crowd and has to rely on either another popular fighter (calzaghe, pavlik, tito) or pre fight shenanigans (wright, tito), yet he goes to the table naking unrealistic offers.

nah i dont see it. i think dawson can pull it off antonio tarver is very underated at 40 years old did you see his hand speed or how smooth he was thats just unbelievable. its hard for anybody to look good against him especially in a rematch. chad was just doing his job it gets tough in there same thing with ****ing glen johnson. tarver and johnson are old age wise but they got a late start to boxing so in there 30s when everybody else had maxed out they were still learning new things. new tricks all that. even hopkins there not all worn out so if he looks bad against them shit there not you ordinary older fighters

Gary Shaw said that neither Golden Boy or Hopkins contacted him about a possible fight. I don't think it's going to happen. It sucks. I don't expect to see it go down, but I'd luv it if he did. Odd that Glen is more worn than Bhop is, yet Chad don't want it wit him but is hopin for Bhop. I'm dyin to see 1 of em light Dawson's ass up. :boxing:

Taylor never really beat Hopkins imo. They were political decisions. Just like Hatton never really beat Collazo, they had him win because it was better for money making purposes. Either way the athleticism and youth is the only reason Hopkins had any problems with Taylor. Hopkins is older now and Chad is more athletic than Taylor was then.

Cagey is another word for dirty. Hopkins is a dirty, grappling fighter. I don't like him. And, like Hatton, he does nothing but make excuses or goes into denial mode after a loss.

i wanna see this fight next thats the biggest fight for both of them. hopkins knows chad wants his spot and he deserves that spot p4p they should fight next. dawson shouldnt go to smw they should be trying to move up to fight him. i think dawson is ready for bhop though Dawson fights too timid to beat a cagey vet like Hopkins. Hopkins would just chew him up and spit him back out.
