It is with a heavy heart that I write you this message today. I have decided to permanently retire from boxing. This decision was not an easy one for me to make as boxing is all I have done since I was a child. However, these past few years have been extremely difficult for me to find the desire and joy to continue in the sport.
I have said numerous times and after several of my fights over the past two years that I might not fight again. At the same time, I loved competing and winning and also wanted to continue my career for the fans, knowing they were there for me and enjoyed watching me fight. However, after many sleepless nights and intense soul-searching I realized I could no longer base my decision on anything but my own personal happiness, which I no longer could find. So I have finally made up my mind, spoken to my family, particularly my mother, and made my decision.
I am sorry I have to leave the sport at this time, knowing I still have my God-given abilities to succeed and future multi-million dollar paydays ahead, including the one right around the corner. But there comes a time when money doesn't matter. I just can't do it anymore. I have found a peace with my decision that I have not felt in a long time.
Finally, I want to personally thank all of my fans for their loyalty and dedication as my career comes to a close. I always believed that their enthusiasm and support helped carry me to victory with every fight I ever had.
It was a great joy to have fought for all of you. Now I hope you understand my decision and wish me well with the rest of my life.
Floyd Mayweather Jr.

It's good to see a Floyd fan keeping it real for once. I was trying to green k you but I ran out of bullets, so IOU. Great post.
it is what it is bro I am not a nuthugger simply down with a crew of my friends is all. I jump in and set the ish straight and try to give unbiased thoughts to a thread. I am actually a very big Sugar Shane Mosley fan my man....Lefty
No it's fine to cry at your retirement, if it's truly your retirement.
IMO Floyd knew all along he was coming back.
I think he truly was retiring in his mind forever. The economy and maybe his ego forced him to come back. I truly think it is the economy and the fact helost alot of money in realestate and other investments. the fact he had issue with his hands and maybe lost the desire due to the fact he couldn't fight upt io his true potential due to that had some factor in his decision.
I wish he stayed retired, because if he does beat Marquez, and Pacman he'll claim to be the greatest fighter ever even though he avoided Cotto, Mosley, Clottey, and other Welterweights. And he brags about being the bigger man in the ring against Hatton, and Marquez... Floyd clearly doesn't give a shit about his legacy since he shits on his own legacy calling the fighters he fight smaller then himself.
I answered this in another thread but i will repeat myself for you ...
How many fights did he have at 147? 4 fights. He fought Mitchell, Judah, Baldomir(Judah's Conquerer) and Hatton, He fought Oscar at Oscar's weight 154. At the time when he entered 147 Judah was King. Judah lossed to Baldomir so he beat Judah then he beat Baldomir. He went up in weight to fight Oscar for mega bucks (honestly can you blame him?) Came back down to fight a 43-0 Hatton (another big $ fight) At this time everyone wanted to see Floyd fight Cotto or Margarito. He then was supposed to fight Oscar again. (1st bout ended in SD) This time for even bigger bucks again at 154lbs but something happened (money issues) and the fight got cancelled. Shortly after that he decided to retire. My thoughts on this was that he has hand issues and a fighter can't go to work if his tools (hands) are bad. Just ask Paulie or Calzaghe. If you look back at the fights he did have above 135 pounds Floyd was often the smaller man. Chcio outweighed him and so did Castillio.

Still want more???? I can give them to ya.... apparently, you think i'm some liar.
Yeah say what you want maybe we didn't see him against Cotto. Mosley beat Margarito so that leaves me to believe that Floyd probably would have did much of the same that Mosley did. Would have been like Floyd verses a bigger Baldomir. The one fight we were really depribed of seeing was Cotto vs Floyd in my book. Truth is we still might get that you never know. Say what you want about Floyd but he still is a tremendous fighter with tons of talent. The problem is we haven't seen him tested or at least not the way we want to see him tested....Lefty

Ugh grow up.
