They look one weight class apart. Doesn't matter where they started, people grow.
Marquez looks to be a smaller lightweight, but he has the frame to fill in to that division well.
Mayweather these days is a skinny welterweight, he fights at 147, I'd say he's a jr welterweight at best. Floyd isn't really a welterweight though, people like Margarito, Cotto, Mosely, all seem bigger and stronger.
so really it's about one weight class difference. Maybe a tiny bit more, but Marquez def isn't a natural featherweight anymore. 130 was probably his best weight. SFW.
Mayweather is coming off of a layoff anyways, I doubt size will matter, Floyd isn't that big of a hitter nor is he particularly strong for his weight class.

i dont know man but this a good question - green k.
going up in weight is not likely to disrupt someone like williams, manny (pre diaz), or dawson - because these guys are big for the weight. however for fighters like hatton, hagler, pavlik etc 4 lbs are likely to have a bigger effect on their performance.
two years of inactivity is likely to affect everyone, maybe it would affect someone who's game is all about timing, countering, reflexes etc. a brawler (katsidis) is not going to be as affected by a 2 year lay off as someone like mayweather (counter puncher/boxer).
I know that many people on here believe that FMJ is a cowardpussyduckerbitch. That's fine. I have a different perspective: Mayweather is a greedy fukk who lets money dictate his every boxing move.
he is both. he said he'll toy w/ jmm and pac coz they're both too small for him, so why not take on someone bigger? he used to do that years ago but lately he worships his undefeated record so much he's so afraid of losing it that he just won't take risks.
The weight clearly favors Floyd since he is used to fighting above 140. That said I do think the reason JMM took the fight is because he was going to move up to 140 anyway to persue Pac. Its a big pay day 3lbs north of where he would have ended up. The reason I think Floyd is avoiding 140lbs at the moment is because of the layoff. If hes active then it might not be a big deal to come down to 140bls. With the layoff though he may want to see how he feels before going back down in weight.
I think 2 years inactivity is worse than a 15 or 20 pound difference.
I don't when its obvious that floyd has been sparring and staying in great shape and not actually retired.

Can you please tell me the other welterweights who are smaller than pbf?
are you trying to act dumb dios? well you look good playing the part anyway. what the hell cant you understand with what i said about floyd a natural jww to ww.
floyd is a natural jww to ww. he's not a natural lightweight anymore even if most of his fights were there. he was years before but not now. jmm now is a natural sfw to lw. he would prbably still be fighting at sfw if manny didnt move up. he looked a bit slow and pudgy at lw, but his technical skills helped him a lot.
How is it 4 pounds... when Marquez has never even fought at 140?
and Only had 2 fights a 135?
How about those poll results too. :)
(Awaiting disregard because the forum doesn't agree with him)
He came in at 141 on fight night, in his last fight.
The moment I saw Marquez vs Casamayor, I said, 135 is his absolute limit, he's not the same as he once was imo.
People seem to think just because he ran manny close....If pacman moves up to 140-147 and do great things, so can marquez: doesnt work like that, Manny has a unique mix of freakish speed and power JMM doesnt have.
Do you find it odd that Marquez' "natural weight" is where he started, but Floyd's "natural weight" is where he moved up to?
Just a question: why wouldn't you apply the same criteria to both guys?
well for starters, Floyd has been at welterweight for 4+ years, and Marquez has been at 135 for not even a year...
You realize you can grow into a bigger weight right?
I was 130lbs when i was 12... That certainly doesn't make me a natural 130lber anymore
;5275213']inactivity means nothin, just fighting guys infront of big crowds, people prepare for that and 90% of the battle is in the gym, many fighters have said this, so if he's training hard in the gym, it really has'nt changed nothin, they got sparrin, just because he was'nt fightin world class fighters(which he could've been for sparring) it really dont make a differrence, maybe im not putting it into perspective enough, but that's what i think right now
Inactivity means everything... same reason NFL teams coming off a bi week going into the playoffs dont usually do well ( in a lot of cases )
FIGHT speed and SPARRING speed are completely different...
They are not full speed in sparring, even if it's a tough sparring competition, they are not throwing at you as fast and as hard as they do in a fight...
Its simply not the same thing... inactivity IS big... great fighters can overcome it though..
