Everything he suggested Hatton do was the truth. As we saw after the fight when Merchant spoke to Roach, Freddie spent the last 2 months studying Hatton's lunging weakness (what Floyd Jr. originally exploited), and broke it down to a trigger of Hatton cocking back on his shots.
Manny stopped Ricky so effortlessly it was like he was mind reading, and that might be all he had to with Hatton using no strategy as usual. The little bit of listening Ricky did do, was good. Using his jab and the slight head movement on the way in into a clinch and infighting instead of his wild disaster.
Ricky became reckless way too soon, and it doesn't help that he has 0 punch resistance when it comes to that lunging in he does. Even feather fisted Paulie stunned him in their fight. It's such a bad habit to get anyone to break when you see how quickly he goes to it, but I guess Sr. deserves backlash because of his overly harsh treatment of Roach, however I don't lay this on him.
It was all wrong. His gameplan seemed to be to try to stay patient behind the jab at a distance and close the distance behind the jab, we didn't see too much head movement from Hatton to get on the inside and Pacquiao ate him up on the outside, which is what I expected to happen. Hatton had to use the jab and bob and weave to get inside and bully Pacquiao around. He didn't do that, he just stood there firing his jab. The gameplan was wrong.
How can the gameplan be wrong, when the bolded WAS the gameplan? At no point did Sr. indicate this was not what they were trying to establish. Hatton doesn't listen, the first thing Sr. told him after the 1st was to move his damn head. And Hatton did move his head a bit, his style of it is just terrible and probably looked like nothing to you when he did try it. He sways it a little bit and slips in, it only managed to bind him clinches, but even that achievement was infintely better than going at Manny standing up straight with his hands away from his face and being hammered.
Ricky probably would've got knocked out anyway, but at least take the advice that will get you from being put out cold.
The gameplan was not wrong. Hatton took all of his wallops because he didn't move his head and get into position smart. He only looked good when he set up attacks with this imo. Sr. told the truth, but he is a prick.

Freddie was right though: It didn't matter if Sr. was there because Ricky would be the same old Ricky come fight-time.
You can have the greatest trainer in the world but if you don't listen and you can't adjust and prove that old dogs can't learn new tricks...your ass will get owned.
What is incredible is that Pac seems to continue to improve both Physically and Technically. He's jumped up in weight and seems to only get bigger, stronger, and kept his speed (if not a bit faster)...
He does seem a lot smarter as a fighter as well.
Maybe it's just styles and who he is fighting, but......still impressive.
It will be good to see how he does against a counter-puncher type like Floyd, JMM type fighters. But let's just wait to see who wins that fight since that will be interesting. JMM seems to think Floyd might not be the same fighter because of inactivity. We'll see.
In all honesty this loss was because of Hatton. Even after the first round Mayweather was telling Hattoon not to jump on Pacquiao or look to trade with him, and rather put his hands up. At the end of the day none of that matters, and Hatton got RAPED.
I repeat like i said in another thread Floyd Sr is the most overrated trainer in recent boxing history. seriously like Roach has said if Floyd is so good why is he not in the HOF? Floyd Sr's biggest contribution to boxing was knockin up Floyd's mom. He was an ok fighter, and a overrated average trainer!
Hatton and Snr were badly suited as boxer and trainer. You just have to let Ricky fight, trying to make him think in the ring is only confusing him. I doubt Roach could've done any better.
Its party Floyd Sr.'s fault man.. and that fact that he didnt even showed respect when his fighter went out cold is disgusting. Talks too much and disrespects a LOT.. what has he done in his career as a trainer that you could call accomplishment anyway? Freddie is a lot more accomplished than this joke coach trainer.
It's Mayweather Sr.'s job to eliminate those flaws, Hatton started doing them from the opening bell. And the gameplan was all wrong.

I don't know about anybody else but i am sick of Mayweather Snr and his BS....how anybody can have him as a trainer is beyond me .....the man was like the devil on hattons back .....keep running his mouth about roach etc ....theres no luck by that type of carry on !
Nobody can Take nothing away from PAC ....the little fella is awesome :boxing:
Shit happened so fast there ain't no room to over analyze it and wonder what Sr did wrong in camp. Dude just got smoked.
Roach told it right after the fight. His entire strategy was predicated on Hatton fighting recklessly as usual.
