Hatton does not give the type of space to operate as De La Hoya does. Manny won't be able to set up his shots as well or land the straight left with the full extension that he was hitting De La Hoya with.
There's an interesting quote from the De La Hoya fight that I noted. Lampley says something like "Does DLH at least have a punchers chance?" and Merchant replies, "Or does he do something different, rush him, bully him, hit him to the body, hug him, and beat him up."
Well if that's how Larry Merchant envisions how you should fight Manny Pacquiao, and he's right, then I like my prediction.

Lot of you guys are way OFF!!
This is what Ive been saying Pac has basically been TWO fights str8 without getting touched.....and hes even KO sparring partners...roach should be getting this kid some hard tough rounds....
Hatton will hit Manny....hard and often..I dont think hell take them....
Hes never tasted true 135....140....or 147 pound power.....
Hell be in for a shock come May 2nd...thats why I put all my points on Ricky.
Did you file for Points Bancruptcy???
something else i have always said from the beginning, but that NO ONE has listened too because they are too busy hating on oscar for being a billionaire and getting all the pussy he could ever want, AND being one of the greats of boxing, that always gave us our moneys worth...haha, shit, he even gave the haters their money's worth by seeing him finally look as ugly as the people that hate on him...HAHAHA...yeah, gotta the the oscar haters...as much as they claim to hate him, and how he is a "sellout", and a closet homo or whatever, yet CANNOT stop talking about him? oh yeah, they also buy his fights...hahaha, if i hated someone that i thought was a deviant closet homo AND that i thought was a sellout TO ONLY TAKE MY MONEY, then i certainly would not pay him any attention or buy his fights....
hah, sorry for the rant, but anyway...MANNY NEVER ONCE CAME CLOSE TO HURTING OSCAR, or knocking him out cold...yeah, he peppered his face up nicely and busted his head all night, BUT, oscar was never in serious trouble of being KO'd or being stopped...and the few times that he DID land a clean punch he really BACKED MANNY straight the **** up...that solo solid body shot he landed literally took manny off his feet...imagine what hatton's power what do to him?
oscars best moment was in round 5 where he had a little flurry and pushed pac to the ropes.
I wasn't doubting he is the best. But I was being serious. Tell me a guy he has fought who can fight on the inside as well as Hatton, and is that strong?
I'll wait.
absolutely...this will be PAC's toughest test since Marquez...there's no doubt about that...Ricky's strengths do lie on the inside game...Barrera was a brutal body puncher but not at the level (size and power) of Ricky
IMO, the key to beating PAC is a steady jab...its the only way to disrupt his rhythm and allow his opponent to begin their offense...when opponents are giving that 'space' that you mentioned, i think its more a product of them tryin to 'time' PAC...if Ricky, short arms and all, dedicates his jab, it will be more effective than the timed lunges that he's known for
either way, should be a great war....
That's very true. Timing Pacquaio is dangerous because you're you're playing a battle of speed and reflexes, not one you're likely to win.
I will go by what Freddie Roach is saying about this fight...Pac in 3 rounds..Roach is the dope...I think it will be Pacquiao Ver 3.0 and David Diaz Ver 2.0 that will show up on Saturday...hehe
I been sayin this all along. I think Pac stops him, but it ain't gonna be an ownage and Hatton is live.
That's the truth right there. I'm not completely sold on Ricky winning this fight. Something tells me he will, but one thing I know is this won't be a shutout.
It will be a tougher fight than DLH that's for sure, but Pac is way too quick for Hatton, he won't be able to hug him to death because Pac will get out of the way. Plus, Pac seems to carry his power up in weight with him, and Hatton has never taken a good power punch since he got knocked out by Mayweather imo.
But Mayweather is a very skilled inside fighter, who has proved it over time. I don't know that Manny can sustain a physical beating like what Hatton is capable of.
i think ricky's chances lie on him bullying manny on the inside.
i doubt the ref's will let him though.
manny looks tiny next to hatton.
the ref won't let things go against manny that he would normally if ricky was fighting a bigger guy like bradley or holt.
human nature. every clinch , push , shoulder , elbow ricky does would look worse against manny's small frame than against guys ricky's size.
plus i think floyd sr. will mess up and try to make ricky a boxer instead of using his size advantage.

great timing Dans...i was about to start a thread titled 'you are mistaken if you think PAC-Hatton will look like Ricky-Paulie' :D
haha, I don't doubt it.
But seriously I think we're in for a war on Saturday.
Not being sarcastic, has Manny ever fought a real strong inside fighter like Ricky? He's obviously beaten great fighters but I just watched DLH-Pac and noticed how much space Oscar was giving him. Even Marquez and Morales gave Pac a lot of space. I don't know if it matters, or if it is how to beat Pacman, but it is interesting.
Hatton is much faster than DLH. He is also in or near his prime. I cannot wait for this fight. Both guys get hit and come to fight. Great for fight fans.
