I been thinking recently that we're at one of those moments now that history will put a line under and call an era...
Most of the great fighters of this generation are either retired or just about on their way out, we have to look for the new young stars to fill the void and take the sport forward. Just a list of some of the bigger names to have retired or about too:
Floyd
Joe C
ODH
Morales
Castillo
Naz
Barrara
Lewis
Roy Jones Jr
Hatton
Hopkins
SSM
Pac-Man is getting on a said hes not got long left
Possibly the Marquez bros soon
Dont get me wrong, i think theres a lot of talent coming through and young talent already at the top but it still feels like we're at the end of something...
Pretty much all of the new crop would get owned by the old crop aka Hopkins Pavlik style.
Agreed...
Joe C >> Dawson
Marquez >> Valero
Hatton >> Bradley
Floyd >> Berto
etc etc...
Its easy to say this now to be fair, most of those new guys a still green....But if i had to be honest i dont think any of that new breed could ever beat the prime versions of the 'oldies' ever...I just personally dont see the potential in many of them to become ATG's...
true thread. i mean theres so many young boxers that could be remembered for being great, but theres none that will go down in history as being legends
also is it me or is the only young boxer that anyone talks about on this site Tyson Fury?
  Their all FAST and EXPLOSIVE... it's just what I like, son... cant help those types happen to be more black then not...
I still stand by Gamboa is cuban not black :lol1:
Is Gamboa's skin dark?
If so, he's black.

Im considerably excited about watching Gamboa grow, as well as Berto, Timothy Bradley, Rigeandeux, and Andre Dirrel...
Holy Shit, who is that in your sig
The end of an era is definitely upon us.
I'm not very excited about this new crop of up and comers. Most of them are lacking in either talent, polish, experience, or desire.
Exactly what I said above, alot of these guys that are getting hyped on here have a shit defence but punch hard
Kirkland- Is there any punch he cant be hit with?
Angulo- Saw a blown up Cosme Rivera outbox him, shocking defense
Valero- Wide open, lunges in chin up, begging for smack in the chops, mosquera knocked him down.
Abraham- Fights like an elderly winky wright, minus the footwork.
Williams- Cant see hook's or punches from angles, throws about 100 punches around and lands about 5-10 of them and that's in a good round.

New crops wouldn't have experience anyway, son.
Agreed.
But they'd at least have potential.
And a lot of them don't, IMO.
Do you see any future ATG's in the mix? Or even Hall of Famer's?
I don't.
I see lightning fast, entertainers and one dimensional sluggers.
Plus, as I said : No desire.
How many of these kids love this sport? How many of them just treat it as a profession?
The new guys comin up now seem to be young enuf that they'll improve over the next few yrs. Doubtful what we see from em now is as good as it gets. A lotta cats I grew up watchin are gone or soon to be and it sucks, but there's excitin fighters to carry the torch when they're all gone. Don't think we're gettin anotha megastar like Tyson or DLH tho.

Here's something, of all the new fighter that people talk about, guys like valero, gamboa, Kirkland, Angulo, williams etc. How many of these guys are great boxers?
Some of them have the potential to be great fighters, but I dont see any of these guys as super talented, slick, accurate boxers of the kind that Hopkins, mayweather, the Marquez brothers and some of the other top fighters were.
It makes you think about how good this era is/was, because some of these hyped up and comers are lacking in the boxing skills dept imo.
