In additional Diaz news, GracieFighter.com is also reporting that the Strikeforce winner has called out boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. (53-5 Boxing) to meet in a boxing contest.
Jones Jr. has been in extended discussions with current UFC middleweight champion and UFC 97 main event competitor Anderson Silva about a future boxing bout, but UFC President Dana White has nixed that possibility for the time being. Diaz's camp feels they may be in a better position to arrange the contest.
The original report from GracieFighter.com is included below.
Superstar boxer Roy Jones Jr. has expressed interest in facing UFC Middleweight Champion, Anderson Silva, after Silva had let his intentions be known that he wished to face Jones in a boxing contest. Promoter Bob Arum was eager to promote such a bout to let the world see that "those MMA guys can't throw a straight punch".
Unfortunately it seems the impedus to set up such a fight is dead in the water, since the UFC is no hurry to see their Champion compete in a venue not being promoted by them.
Enter Nick Diaz. With Strikeforce's more flexible attitudes towards fighting and the Strikeforce-Showtime alliance, the barriers to such a fight could very well be coming down. Our camp has already contacted Top Rank Boxing to let them know we would be 100% in favor of such a matchup. Now the ball is in their court.
The 40-year-old Jones Jr. last fought in a hybrid boxing/MMA card that promoted by his own company, Square Ring Promotions. Jones Jr. earned a fifth-round TKO over an overmatched Omar Sheika.
In addition to frequent sparring with undefeated Olympic Gold Medalist Andre Ward, Diaz has boxed once as a professional, earning a four-round unanimous-decision win over fellow rookie Alfonso Rocha in an April 2005 bout contested at 167 pounds.
Jones Jr. has typically fought around 175 pounds for the past 12 years.

Diaz gets his ass handed to him in a boxing match with Roy just like any other MMA guy who thinks he can just hop in a boxing ring and dominate. and Roy is 40 years old so imagine what a prime Roy would do to him
On another note, I think there's a slight possibility that Roy takes this fight.
Roy Jones ducked Anderson Silva's challenge to a boxing match last year. Nick Diaz not only has worse stand-up skills than Anderson Silva, but Nick is a much smaller opponent for Roy.
LOL!!! Jones would kill nick diaz even in MMA rules let alone boxing. Nick Diaz isn't even an elite MMA fighter let alone a club fighter level boxer
Agree. Roy Jone's jew-jit-soo is the same level as Fedor's.
Nick Diaz is a ****ing clown, he's an average fighter in mma. He just beat and old Frank Shamrok and now he thinks he's big shit. He's just trying to stir some shit up in an attempt to make some money.
I love both mma and boxing but i hate that clown, Jones would still beat that clown up even if he was 60.
Diaz is a punk in the MMA world. he throws punches softer than Calzaghe most of the time. or more like Malignaggi. his punches mostly just annoy ya. he rarely puts good power into them and with those gloves of course you throw so many damage will show up but this kid could be KO'd in the first if Jones wanted. him beating Shamrock last Saturday was nice but Frank didnt even look right that night. something was off with him before he even got into the ring.
This dude got his ass kicked by a boxer turned mma fighter (KJ Noons) who btw can't be even considered top 1000 in boxing. lmao, wut a joke.
oops, didn't see the post above.
These mma guys thinking they could box against boxers start to annoy me. Most boxers understand that they dont stand much chance against mma guys in mma fights, why dont mma guys understand that the same goes for boxing?
I used to think it would be a waste of time for roy to fight some mma guys but now i think he should put them back in their proper place, flat out on the canvas. Roy should let those mma guys line up if they want to then he can take them out, challange adamek and retire as a champ.
Diaz is it, well Diaz, why don't you start practicing falling down. What part of this don't they get, no MMA fighter will ever beat a pro boxer in the ring. They are professional punchers, not part-timers.
